Evening

Ayano's note

Get your errands done, then wait for sunset.

It is easy to focus on the view at a seaside station, but Futami works best when you plan parking, toilets, food, and shopping first. With children, visit the toilet and get a snack before heading out; adults can browse the market before moving to the rooftop or seawall. Getting around becomes harder closer to sunset, so make the waiting time part of the outing.

Sort out food, shopping, and a place to rest first, and you can enjoy the wait for sunset too.
Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Futami is a rest stop on National Route 378 with a beach a short walk away. By day, choose a meal at Monde Bleu or one of the other food outlets, then take in the beach and rooftop plaza. In the evening, head to Lovers' Cape or the stepped seawall for the sunset over the Iyo-nada Sea. At the Umiyama Sanshoku Asahi-san direct sales market, you can pick up Futami vegetables, iriko (dried small fish), soy sauce, and citrus sweets. July and August are also beach-swimming months; check the current official notices for shop hours and parking-lot gate times before you go.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

An entire seaside break in one place

The parking area, direct sales market, food outlets, toilets, beach, and viewing deck are close together. You can enjoy the sea even on a short stop, whether children need a little walk or adults are filling time until sunset.

02

Several ways to eat or take a sweets break

Alongside the restaurant are takeout and cafe-style choices, so even on a busy day you can grab something light and head for the shore. Cafe de Futami (provisional name) also offers sunset soft-serve ice cream and a rotating mandarin-orange juice to enjoy with the view.

03

Easy to build a trip around sunset

Combine Lovers' Cape and the sunset viewing seats with Shimonada Station and Futami Shiokaze Fureai Park. A lunch stop can become a half-day drive, with options for sunny or rainy weather and families with children.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Families with children; short breaks

90 minutes for lunch and the beach

Coming from the Iyo Interchange side, park and use the toilet first. Depending on crowds, choose the restaurant or takeout, then take a short post-meal walk on the beach and rooftop plaza. With the sea close by, children can stretch their legs without leaving the station.

Parking area → toilets → meal or snack → beach and rooftop plaza → direct sales market

The sand can reflect intense heat in summer. Check that day's guidance on changing rooms and showers if you may need them.

Adults; photography

A half-day drive to watch the sunset

Arrive in the afternoon and spend time at the direct sales market and cafe, then move to Lovers' Cape or the stepped seawall before sunset. Around the spring and autumn equinoxes, the sunset monument is a particular draw, so choose your spot early.

Direct sales market → cafe and sweets → Lovers' Cape → sunset viewing seats → return along National Route 378

If clouds are thick, make a shore walk and shopping the main events instead of counting on the sunset alone.

Ages 4 and up; primary school children

A half-day with children, from sea to hills

Eat at the station, then drive to Futami Shiokaze Fureai Park. After the playground equipment, open areas, and seasonal flowers, return to the station in the evening to enjoy both the hills and the sea at an easy pace.

Michi-no-Eki Futami → Futami Shiokaze Fureai Park → sweets or sunset at the station

The park closes on Tuesdays and some facilities require reservations; check its opening information in advance if the park is your main destination.

A first drive around Futami

A sunset route via Shimonada Station

Use the toilet and shop at the roadside station before the short trip to Shimonada Station. Parking at the station itself is not provided, while a small municipal temporary lot nearby may be available. Consider the train or an off-peak visit, and avoid lingering around the station entrance.

Michi-no-Eki Futami → National Route 378 → JR Shimonada Station → roadside station or central Iyo City

The popular evening hours draw photographers. This is an active railway station, so leave room for passengers to move on the platform.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

A short seaside stroll can be pleasant, but sand, sunshine, and wind can tire little ones.

Locate nursing and diaper-changing facilities first, and keep outdoor time short.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The beach and deck offer room for a little walking and a break from a long drive.

At this age children may run toward the water; walk alongside them on trips to and from meals.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Looking at the sea, having a sweet treat, and walking to Lovers' Cape make manageable little goals.

If they need more active play, add Futami Shiokaze Fureai Park by car.

Primary school children
★★★★★

They can take part in a scenic outing with a coastal walk, talk of e-bikes, or a side trip to Shimonada Station.

Waiting for sunset can feel long, so get a snack and finish shopping first.

Toilets

The tourism association and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism list 24-hour access. Visit before heading to the sunset spots.

Strollers

The facilities and deck are easier to use; on the beach, expect to carry the child or have them walk.

Summer water play

Changing rooms and paid showers are listed for July and August. Check their operation on the day if swimming is your aim.

Pets

The official site says dogs, cats, and other pets may not be brought inside the facilities.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
    Park near the buildings

The tourism association lists 128 car spaces. Evenings and summer can be busy, so arrive early if you want to keep walking distances short.

  2. 2
Choose a meal or sweet treat first

Monde Bleu suits a restaurant break; takeout suits a shorter stop. Check the specific shop first because hours differ.

  3. 3
Wait for sunset somewhere you can sit

Use the stepped seawall or deck, and keep the visit short if the wind is strong or the air turns cold.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Beach and stepped seawall

The center of sunset watching and seaside events. Weather and sea breezes affect how it feels.

Lovers' Cape

The sunset monument, wishing stone, and bell of happiness make this a place for photos and anniversaries.

Rooftop plaza and viewing deck

An alternative to the beach when it is crowded, with a place to rest above the sea.

Event plaza

An area shared with parking that was expanded during renovation. On event days, allow extra time and space for parking and moving around.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Do not count on the restaurant alone

The official site lists different schedules for the restaurant, market, takeout outlets, and cafes, and reported renovation and reopenings in spring 2026. Even when you come to eat, keep a light meal, sweets, or market shopping as a fallback.

Prepare for a summer beach visit

Showers and changing rooms are listed for July and August, but sunshine, hot sand, and changing clothes make a difference to how tiring the beach feels. With children, plan water, shade, and clothes for the return trip.

Shimonada Station is nearby, but do not count on parking at the station

Ehime's official tourism listing says there is no station parking, while Iyo City's tourism site describes a small municipal temporary lot nearby. Complete your break at the roadside station, then keep your visit short or take the train. Check whether the temporary lot is open before driving there.

On a rainy day, favor the market and cafe over sunset views

The station's official social media also posts about rainy-day operations. When the seaside view is muted, browsing produce, having coffee, or eating a light meal is easier than a long outdoor walk. In strong wind, be ready to leave the seawall for the car.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Hours differ for the market, restaurant, and other outlets. Official notices reported renovations and reopenings in spring 2026; if you are coming to eat, check the latest official schedule.
  • The third Tuesday is the usual closure day, but July and August are listed as open every day. The restaurant also lists Thursday closures, so check each shop separately.
  • The toilets are listed as open 24 hours. The west parking area is reported to close from 22:00 to 5:00, so choose your parking area carefully for a late stop.
  • Dogs, cats, and other pets are not allowed inside the facilities. If planning a seaside stop with a pet, check the day's signs for rules outdoors too.
  • Around the spring and autumn equinoxes, the sunset monument can draw more visitors. For photos, arrive while it is still light rather than just before sunset.
  • If combining this visit with Shimonada Station, be aware that the station itself has no parking; a small temporary lot nearby may be available. Use the toilet and shop here first, then plan a short, quiet station visit and check local parking guidance.
Food

Eating and shopping

Specialities, places to eat, sweets and bakeries can all give you a reason to stop. Check individual menus for current prices and availability.

  • Seaside lunch
    Futami Nagisa Restaurant Monde Bleu
Check official information for hours and menu
  • Light meal
Junge Morgen hamburg steaks and sausages
An official notice announced an April 30, 2026 opening; check current hours on the day
  • Sweets
Sunset soft-serve ice cream and today's mandarin juice
An official notice lists these at Cafe de Futami (provisional name)
  • Shopping
Uruki soy sauce, iriko, and Futami produce

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

A full lunch

Eat at Monde Bleu while looking out at the sea

Seats with a wide sea view are a draw. This suits a day centered on a meal or a quiet rest with older family members.

Schedules and closures vary by shop. Check official information, especially on Thursdays and third Tuesdays or during renovations and events.

A quick bite

Junge Morgen hamburg steaks, sausages, and other items

Takeout is handy when children do not want to sit for long or you want time to walk before sunset. Sort out handwashing and rubbish before heading onto the beach.

Outlets changed during the spring 2026 renovation, and earlier takeout shops closed. The official site has not listed the new outlet's hours, so in the late afternoon leave room to switch to sweets or the market.

A sweets break

Sunset soft-serve ice cream, today's mandarin juice, and today's coffee

A good choice when there is a little time before sunset. A cold treat by the sea makes even a short stop feel like Futami.

Treats melt quickly in summer, and sand makes hands dirty. With children, eating on a deck or bench is more relaxing.

Shop to take something home

Vegetables, iriko (dried small fish), Uruki soy sauce, and citrus products

Even if you do not sit down to eat, the direct sales market offers a taste of the area. The sweet-style soy sauce and dried seafood evoke Futami's home cooking.

Fresh produce selection changes over the day. If you arrive in the evening, keep your shopping list flexible.

A beach-swimming day

Get drinks and a light meal first

Changing rooms and showers are advertised for July and August. Arrange changes of clothes, shade, and water before planning the meal.

Swimming, showers, and changing rooms operate seasonally. Check the day's notices and official information before going onto the beach.
