A closer look at
the places along the road.
Michi-no-Eki Journal is an independent guide to Japan’s roadside stations. We help you decide where to stop, what to eat or buy, and how to connect a visit with nearby scenery, history and family outings.
Read for the trip you want to take
A station can be a brief rest, a lunch destination or the start of a longer outing. Our English guides cover those different possibilities, with Japanese place names for navigation and links to operators and local visitor information.
Food terms, bathing options and transport details are explained where they help you plan. Official links are labelled when their pages are in Japanese. Facilities have their own opening times: a station’s shops, dining room and baths may follow different schedules.
Our sources and updates
The English guides build on our Japanese reporting and are edited for English readers. We use station operators, municipalities and tourism organisations for practical information. Each article displays its revision date. When published schedules disagree, the guide explains the uncertainty and gives a way to check before a special trip.
These are editorial guides, not claims of a personal visit. We do not operate the stations, sell their products or take facility reservations. Contact the operator directly for bookings, stock and services.
Help keep a guide useful
If something has changed, use the correction link on the station guide or contact the editors. Include the page, the detail to correct and an official source or date where possible. Submissions are reviewed before changes are published.
