How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First stop
Check the market for seasonal fruit and fish

Look for citrus in spring, and peaches, pears, apples and grapes from summer into autumn. Plan how to keep fresh fish or dried fish on the trip home before buying.

To take home
Hagi apple juice and Yuzukichi citrus juice

These are presented as original products made at the processing facility. Choose a bottle for the drive, home or a gift.

For outdoor time
Head to the onsen, campground or beach

Tamagawa Onsen is close to the station and is involved in campground and RV park reception. The operator's September 25, 2026 notice says that reception for both stays is suspended during a water outage; check for a reopening notice before planning to camp.

For a seasonal visit
Azaleas around Golden Week and seasonal fruit arrivals

Azaleas around the parking area, orchard seasons and the year-end Kure-no-Ichi market each give the station a different feel. Check current official notices for events with set dates.

If time is short
A toilet stop, market visit and drink are enough

The station is convenient for a break between central Hagi and Masuda. A quick stop without trying to shop for everything works well too.

Market first

Look at the shelves before choosing a dining table

To editor Soma (相馬 悠路), Yutori Park Tamagawa is most enjoyable when you think about what to take home. Fruit, fresh fish, dried seafood, juice and local vegetables can bring a taste of Tamagawa to your table after the trip. Choose at least one item to take back rather than focusing solely on lunch during the drive.

Fruit

Follow the seasons from spring citrus to summer and autumn peaches, pears, apples and grapes.

Fish

Bring home fresh fish or dried seafood from Esaki Port for dinner.

Before the onsen

Shop first, then head to the onsen to turn a break into a short outing.

Highlights

Near Yamaguchi Prefecture's northern tip, Yutori Park Tamagawa is a roadside station (michi-no-eki) that makes choosing what to take home part of the fun. The farmers' market sells rice, vegetables, peaches, pears, apples and grapes, plus Hagi apple juice, Yuzukichi citrus juice, fresh fish from Esaki Port and dried fish. More than a place to linger over a meal, it is a starting point on Route 191 between central Hagi and Masuda: shop for produce from the sea, mountains and countryside, then visit the onsen or beach. The nearby campground and RV park have suspended reception under a September 25, 2026 operator notice; check for a reopening update. Editor Soma (相馬 悠路) would begin with the seasonal fruit and fish, picturing both a drink for the drive home and dinner later.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Shopping from the mountains, sea and countryside on the same shelves

The selection runs from Tamagawa rice and vegetables to orchard peaches, pears, apples and grapes, and fish and dried seafood from Esaki Port. Its appeal lies less in a flashy food court than in the meals you can imagine making at home.

02

Extend your stop to an onsen, campground or beach

Tamagawa Onsen, the campground and Segoe Beach are near the roadside station. Pick up ingredients at the market before heading outdoors, and a break on Route 191 can become a half-day outing. The operator suspended campground and RV park reception on September 25, 2026 because of a water outage; check for a reopening notice before planning a stay.

03

A purposeful stop between central Hagi and Masuda

Central Hagi is about 45 minutes to one hour away by car. Near the Shimane Prefecture border, the station also works as a stop when entering Yamaguchi from Iwami Airport or Masuda. Stop for Tamagawa's seasonal produce as well as a toilet break.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

The drive back from central Hagi toward Masuda

Plan dinner at the market

This station is as much about choosing food for home as eating on the go. Browse fruit, vegetables, fish from Esaki Port, iriko dried small fish and other dried seafood, then plan dinner or breakfast the next day. Food lovers can enjoy even a short stop.

On Route 191. If buying fresh or chilled foods, plan your trip home and bring a way to keep them cool.

Fresh stock varies by delivery and time of day. Browse what's in season rather than counting on one particular item.

A longer drive on Route 191

Add an onsen to unwind after the drive

Tamagawa Onsen Ikoi no Yu, near the station, is described as Yamaguchi Prefecture's northernmost hot spring. Shop at the market first, then end the outing with a bath. Since 2024, the facility has also announced changes to which bathing area is assigned to men and women, so check the latest notice if the sauna matters to your visit.

Roadside station → Tamagawa Onsen Ikoi no Yu. It is listed as about 500 m away, or a few minutes by car.

The onsen is listed as closed on Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a holiday. Check current reception hours too.

Shopping for a stay at Tamagawa Campground or the RV park

Shop for outdoor meals; check camping status

Tamagawa Campground is beside the station. Official and tourism association guidance pairs this area with shopping, the onsen and swimming; local turban shells, squid, fish and vegetables can make an outdoor meal. However, a September 25, 2026 operator notice suspended campground and RV park reception because of a water outage. Check for a reopening notice before planning an overnight stay.

Roadside station → Tamagawa Campground or RV park → Tamagawa Onsen.

Campground and RV park reception is currently suspended under the operator's September 25, 2026 notice. Check its current notice before planning an overnight stay; reservations also involve Tamagawa Onsen.

Families and anyone wanting a little time by the sea

Add a short visit to Segoe Beach in summer

Segoe Beach is a family-friendly shore near the station, onsen and campground. It has showers, toilets and parking, and is also listed as a fishing spot outside summer. Pick up drinks or snacks at the station before heading there.

Roadside station → Segoe Beach. The beach is listed as a five-minute walk from the campground.

Sun and wind change conditions by the sea. Short visits can be easier with young children.

Adults wanting a short walk through Tamagawa's local history

Add a cultural stop at Saidoji Rokkakudo

Saidoji Rokkakudo, which also inspired the station building's design, is a prefecturally designated cultural property standing on rock in Esaki Bay. After shopping, visit this hexagonal structure, said to be shaped to withstand the sea wind.

Roadside station → Saidoji Rokkakudo. Allow around 10 minutes by car for this short detour.

Please visit the religious and cultural site quietly. Avoid pushing ahead along the coast in bad weather.

A scenic drive along the Sea of Japan

Make Susa Hornfels the focus of a longer drive

With more time, continue along Route 191 to Susa Hornfels. Its striped cliffs facing the sea offer a very different scene from Yutori Park Tamagawa's market. Pick up a drink or snack at the station before the scenic detour.

Roadside station → Susa Hornfels. Allow about 25 minutes by car.

Wind, waves and uneven ground affect the rocks and coastline. In rough weather, stay above and enjoy the view instead of descending.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Good for a market visit and toilet break.

If adding the beach or onsen, plan for feeding, diaper changes and heat protection first.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Well suited to a short break and choosing fruit or drinks.

A brief stop at Segoe Beach or a riverside park may offer a better change of pace than a long stay inside the station.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Fun when combined with the beach, campground or onsen.

In summer, consider sun, coastal wind and travel distance; pick up drinks at the station before heading out.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Extend the day with shopping, the sea, an onsen or Susa Hornfels to suit their interests.

Geological layers and the hexagonal hall can also add a little learning to the outing.

Wheelchair accessible toilet and ramp

Listed as accessibility facilities by the Yamaguchi Prefectural Tourism Federation.

Outdoor time by the sea

Segoe Beach has showers, toilets and parking. People also visit to fish outside summer.

Rainy day

In rain, visit the market and Tamagawa Onsen and avoid forcing a visit to the shore or rocks.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
After parking, make a short circuit of the market

Looking at fruit, fish, juice and dried seafood in turn can help you choose what to buy.

  2. 2
    Choose fresh food last

If you are also visiting the onsen or shore, adjust the order of purchases for cooling and travel time.

  3. 3
If tired, head to the onsen

Nearby Tamagawa Onsen suits a proper break after a long drive.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Spaces used for events

Azalea Festival

The official annual event information describes a festival around Golden Week, when the azaleas begin to bloom.

Tamagawa Kure-no-Ichi year-end market

The Yamaguchi Prefectural Tourism Federation lists this year-end market. Check current announcements for each year's dates.

Market and Shinsenkan

Usually a place to shop, the market offers another reason to stop on event days, with stalls and seasonal products.

Onsen and campground coordination

The operator suspended campground and RV park reception on September 25, 2026 because of a water outage. Check for a reopening notice and current onsen operations before planning a visit involving these facilities.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The fruit season changes the feel of the station

The Hagi City Tourism Association calls Tamagawa a 'fruit kingdom' in its suggested itinerary, mentioning spring citrus and peaches, pears, apples and grapes from summer into autumn. Enjoy what's in season rather than expecting the same selection year round.

Keep options beyond the restaurant

Past official notices seeking restaurant operators suggest the mix of food outlets may change. Check the day's dining information and keep the market, juices, soft serve and take-home foods in mind too.

For children, add a short beach or onsen visit

The station is primarily a shopping break rather than a place to spend hours on playground equipment. Segoe Beach or Tamagawa Onsen can offer children a change of pace. The nearby campground and RV park suspended reception under a September 25, 2026 operator notice; check for a reopening update.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Closed-day guidance differs: the Hagi City Tourism Association lists year round opening, while the Yamaguchi Prefectural Tourism Federation lists the third Monday as closed. If making a detour, check the official website or call before you go.
  • Bring a cooler bag if you plan to buy fish or fruit. If visiting the onsen or shore first, plan when to buy perishables.
  • Tamagawa Onsen, the campground and RV park are close to the station, but reception, closure days and fees are managed separately. The operator suspended campground and RV park reception on September 25, 2026 because of a water outage; check for a reopening notice. For bathing, follow the onsen's current guidance.
  • On trips to Segoe Beach or Susa Hornfels, wind, waves and sun can change conditions along the coast. Keep visits short with young children or in rough weather.
  • Azaleas around Golden Week, fruit from summer into autumn and the year-end market offer different reasons to visit. Check current notices for dated events.
Food

Eating and shopping

Specialities, places to eat, sweets and bakeries can all give you a reason to stop. Check individual menus for current prices and availability.

    Varies by season and deliveries
  • Processed products
Hagi apple juice / Yuzukichi citrus juice

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Buy what's in season

Peaches, pears, apples and grapes / citrus

Tamagawa is known for fruit. Look for citrus in spring and peaches, pears, apples and grapes from summer into autumn; each season offers a different visit.

Fruit deliveries vary by season and time of day. Arrive earlier if you hope to find a particular item.

Take fish home

Fresh fish from Esaki Port / iriko dried small fish / dried renkodai sea bream

A good choice for a dinner made with local ingredients. There is processed seafood as well as fresh fish, so you can adjust what you buy if keeping food chilled is difficult.

Fresh fish depends on deliveries and may sell out. A cooler bag gives you more options.

Take home a drink

Hagi apple juice / Yuzukichi citrus juice

These are introduced as original products made at the roadside station's produce processing facility: an easy gift, a drink for the drive or a bottle for home.

Stock and packaging change; choose from what is on the shelf when you visit.

Add something sweet

Apple soft serve / Ogawa peach soft serve

The Hagi City Tourism Association's suggested itinerary mentions apple soft serve and Ogawa peach soft serve in July and August. They offer a quick taste of the area's fruit.

Availability varies by season. In summer, enjoy soft serve on the spot before it melts rather than carrying it into the car.

Shop for outdoor meals

Local vegetables / local turban shells / local squid

Tamagawa Campground information highlights local seafood and vegetables at the station's market for barbecues. These can suit outdoor meals, but campground and RV park reception was suspended on September 25, 2026 because of a water outage. Check for a reopening notice before planning a stay.

Campground and RV park reception is suspended under the operator's September 25, 2026 notice. Check current operating status and, if reopened, follow campground rules for overnight stays and fires; plan shopping and reception times separately.
