How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Start here
Seafood and local vegetables in the shop

Look for firefly squid, sandfish, Matsuba crab, Hamasaka chikuwa fish cakes, and tochi mochi, a horse-chestnut rice cake. Stock changes by day and season, so scan the whole shop first.

For lunch
Tajima beef dishes at Tajimaya Shokudo

Dine-in meals run 11:00–14:30 last order; closed Wednesday. Choices range from steak set meals to a weekly lunch from ¥950.

For soba
Handmade 100% buckwheat noodles at Haruki Soba Teppen

11:00–16:00 (last order 15:30); closed Tuesday. From January to March it closes at 15:30, with last order at 15:00.

To take home

Rinta’s Hamasaka notes

Choose the day first, then choose Tajima beef or soba.

Hamasaka no Sato offers three reasons to stop for food: Tajima beef at Tajimaya Shokudo, handmade 100% buckwheat noodles at Haruki Soba Teppen, and Hamasaka seafood in the local shop. The restaurant closes Wednesday and the soba shop Tuesday; their dine-in last orders differ too, at 14:30 and 15:30 respectively (15:00 for soba from January to March). Choose the place you most want to visit and match the day and time. If shopping, work backward from closing time. That makes even a short stop just off Hamasaka IC count.

1

For Tajima beef, avoid Wednesday

Tajimaya Shokudo serves dine-in meals 11:00–14:30 last order. Choices range from a round steak set meal at ¥3,800 to a weekly lunch from ¥950.

2

For soba, avoid Tuesday

Haruki Soba Teppen’s 15:30 last order is later than the restaurant’s, making it an option if you miss an earlier lunch. From January to March, last order is 15:00.

3

Plan shopping around closing time

The shops close at 17:00 from November to March. If you hope to find akaebi shrimp, sandfish, or marinated firefly squid, aim to arrive before late evening; availability changes.

4

After eating, explore nearby

Nanakama Onsen is about 300 m away and the Takimi River baigamo colony about 700 m away. After a stop at the station, choose one nearby detour on foot.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki San’in Kaigan Geopark Hamasaka no Sato is a rest stop in Shinonsen Town on Hyogo Prefectural Route 47, about 100 m south of Hamasaka IC on the San’in Kinki Expressway. Its roughly 5,000 m² site has a local produce and seafood shop, the Niku no Tajimaya butcher shop, Tajimaya Shokudo restaurant, and Haruki Soba Teppen, which serves handmade noodles made entirely from buckwheat. Together they showcase local foods such as Tajima beef, Matsuba crab, firefly squid, sandfish, Hamasaka chikuwa fish cakes, and tochi mochi, a local horse-chestnut rice cake. Toilets, parking, and a public telephone are available around the clock. The information building has a tourism concierge and a Kinki Michi-no-Eki stamp. Nanakama Onsen and the clusters of baigamo, a flowering aquatic plant, in the Takimi River are within walking distance, making this a useful stop for food and shopping before exploring San’in Kaigan Geopark.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

About 100 m from Hamasaka IC, a gateway to San’in Kaigan Geopark

The station sits on Hyogo Prefectural Route 47 (Hamasaka–Ido Line), about 100 m south of Hamasaka IC on the San’in Kinki Expressway. It fits a drive from National Routes 9 or 178 toward Tajima Mihonoura, Yumura Onsen, Ueyama Highland, or Mount Oginosen. The information building provides road information and guides to sightseeing and activity facilities.

02

Choose Tajima beef at the butcher shop or restaurant

Niku no Tajimaya displays and sells Tajima beef, Yoka pork, and Tajima chicken. Next door, Tajimaya Shokudo serves a Tajima beef round steak set for ¥3,800, a Tajima beef roast-beef rice bowl for ¥2,800, and a Tajima beef yakiniku rice bowl for ¥1,800, among other dishes. You can choose a meal or meat to take home on the same site.

03

A separate shop for handmade 100% buckwheat Haruki soba

Haruki Soba Teppen specializes in handmade noodles made entirely from buckwheat: plain soba for ¥1,190, tempura zaru soba for ¥1,450, and Tajima beef dipping soba for ¥1,680, among other dishes. It closes on Tuesdays, unlike the restaurant and local shop, so check the day before making a soba-focused trip.

04

Take Hamasaka seafood home from the local shop

The shop stocks Hamasaka akaebi shrimp (500 g) for ¥3,000, overnight-dried sandfish (350 g, eight to twelve fish) for ¥1,500, firefly squid marinated offshore (300 g) for ¥800, and Tajima beef and dried whitebait simmered in soy sauce for ¥702. Vegetables, fruit, tochi mochi horse-chestnut rice cakes, rice crackers, honey, and other processed foods make it easy to gather gifts in one stop.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A drive from National Routes 9 or 178 toward the San’in coast

A meal break around Hamasaka IC

About 100 m from the IC, this is a convenient place to park, use the toilet, and eat soon after leaving the expressway. If you arrive by Tajimaya Shokudo’s 14:30 dine-in last order, try its Tajima beef dishes. Otherwise, consider Haruki Soba Teppen or takeaway, subject to their own hours. Finish with a look at the seafood in the local shop before setting off.

Parking → toilets → restaurant or soba shop → local shop → Prefectural Route 47

Tajimaya Shokudo closes Wednesday and Haruki Soba Teppen closes Tuesday. Check the day if you are counting on either one.

A nearby side trip without much extra walking

Add Nanakama Onsen or the baigamo colony

According to the Kinki Regional Development Bureau, Nanakama Onsen is about 300 m away and the baigamo colony in the Takimi River (Baigamo Park) is about 700 m away. Eat and shop at the station, then choose the hot spring or the flowers without crowding the itinerary. Baigamo, an aquatic plant, bears small white flowers from around May into summer.

Eat and shop at the station → Nanakama Onsen or the Takimi River baigamo colony → return to the station or head home

Check the hot spring’s hours and the current flowering season separately. Bloom timing varies by year.

A Tajima drive with gifts to buy in one place

Take Tajima beef and seafood home in one stop

Choose Tajima beef, Yoka pork, or Tajima chicken at Niku no Tajimaya, then add marinated firefly squid, overnight-dried sandfish, Hamasaka chikuwa fish cakes, or tochi mochi at the local shop. You can buy meat and seafood without moving your car. If carrying chilled or frozen items, place this stop later in your trip.

Parking → Niku no Tajimaya → local shop → departure

The butcher shop and local shop close at 17:00 from November to March and at 15:00 on December 31. Plan an evening arrival around those times.

Breaking up a long drive

A rest stop at night or early morning

Toilets, parking, and the public telephone are available 24 hours. The information building has road-information equipment, brochures, and area maps; check conditions before driving along the San’in coast in winter. The station asks visitors to refrain from overnight stays in vehicles, so do not plan to sleep in the parking area.

Parking → toilets → check road information in the information building → departure

Food and shopping are unavailable when the stores are closed. Arrive during business hours if you need a meal.

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Check station and shop hours separately

General station hours are 9:00–18:00 from April to October and 9:00–17:00 from November to March. Tajimaya Shokudo’s dine-in last order is 14:30, while Haruki Soba Teppen opens 11:00–16:00 with last order at 15:30 (until December). Arriving before the station closes does not guarantee a meal.

Closing days differ by shop

Niku no Tajimaya and Tajimaya Shokudo close every Wednesday; Haruki Soba Teppen closes every Tuesday. All shops close January 1. The official site also posts temporary schedules, including periods such as Obon when every shop may open.

About 100 m south of Hamasaka IC

The Kinki Regional Development Bureau places the station about 100 m south of Hamasaka IC on the San’in Kinki Expressway, which opened in fiscal 2017. It is also about 60 m from the “Tochiya” or “Tochiya Nanakama Onsen-guchi” stops on the town’s Yumetsubame Hamasaka Onsen bus route.

Parking expanded in spring 2026

According to an official notice, the expanded parking area opened on the afternoon of April 1, 2026, after construction. The large-vehicle spaces moved. The registered listing gives a total of 44 spaces.

Nanakama Onsen and baigamo are within walking distance

The Kinki Regional Development Bureau lists Nanakama Onsen, with free-flowing natural hot-spring water, at about 300 m and the Takimi River baigamo colony at about 700 m. Baigamo is an aquatic plant whose white flowers bloom from around May into summer.

Winter hours end earlier

From November 1 through March 31, the local shop and Niku no Tajimaya open 9:00–17:00; winter guidance lists Tajimaya Shokudo takeaway until a 16:00 last order. Haruki Soba Teppen’s last order is 15:00 from January 2 through March 31. This overlaps Matsuba crab season, so allow time for shopping before closing.

Arrive during the 11:00–14:30 dine-in last-order window for a meal centered on Tajima beef. The restaurant closes Wednesday, so check the day first.

A lighter soba meal

Handmade 100% buckwheat soba, tempura zaru soba, warm soba with plenty of toppings

A quick bite

Croquette, minced-meat cutlet, fried chicken, soft-serve ice cream

Takeaway last order is 16:00. Good for a short break without sitting down for a meal; the official restaurant page lists 16:00 year round.

Take something home

Hamasaka akaebi shrimp, overnight-dried sandfish, marinated firefly squid, Tajima beef and dried-whitebait tsukudani, Hamasaka chikuwa fish cakes

Even if you miss meal hours, the local shop offers a range of Hamasaka gifts. Tsukudani is food simmered in a soy-based sauce.

Order ahead and collect

Takeaway bento meals from Tajimaya Shokudo

The restaurant offers bento by reservation and announces any suspension or restart on its official site. Check ahead if ordering for a group; the current notice asks for orders by the previous business day.
