Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Uzushio is a destination roadside station near the Naruto Strait and Onaruto Bridge in Minamiawaji. Since its October 2025 renewal, the rooftop Zekkei Tenbo 360° viewpoint, Shop Uzu no Kuni main store, Awajishima Burger Awajishima Onion Kitchen main store, Irori Shokudo Uzushio, Nigirimeshi Gyutto and Awajishima Milk Stand+ bring views, food and shopping into a short visit. Whirlpool sightings depend on tides and weather. If you are also taking an Uzushio Cruise from Fukura Port or visiting Uzu no Michi on the Tokushima side, match your meal stop here to the tide chart first.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A roadside station for eating with bridge and strait views

The rooftop Zekkei Tenbo 360° viewpoint and outdoor Zekkei Uzu Plaza bring you close to views of the Onaruto Bridge and Naruto Strait. On a clear day, see the views first; in strong winds, start with indoor dining and shopping.

02

Compare the flavors of Awaji Island onions

Awajishima Burger is generally open from 9:00 to 16:30; Irori Shokudo generally accepts lunch orders from 10:30 until 15:00. Choose from burgers, seafood set meals, omusubi rice balls and soft serve for either lunch or a brief break.

03

Use Uzumachi Terrace on busy days

The station-front lot has 102 spaces, including four designated accessible spaces. On busy days, notices describe a free temporary shuttle from the Narutomisaki parking area, Uzumachi Terrace. Allow extra time for both your meal and the view.

04

Easy to extend to Fukura Port, Uzu no Oka and Uzu no Michi

For a half-day in Minamiawaji, add an Uzushio Cruise around the tide times, Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum on rainy or hot days, or Uzu no Michi on the Tokushima side when you want to look directly beneath the bridge.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

When you want Awaji Island onions and strait views together

A 90-minute visit centered on food

Take a quick look at the view on arrival, then choose a meal before the rush. For a specific burger, head to the second-floor Onion Kitchen. For a seated seafood or local meal, try Irori Shokudo. Depending on children's moods and waiting times, rice balls or soft serve offer lighter alternatives.

Parking → viewpoint → meal → Shop Uzu no Kuni Main Store → outdoor plaza.

At lunchtime and on holiday weekends, allow for a wait and keep both the restaurant and takeout in mind.

Families and first-time Awaji Island visitors who want a close look at the whirlpools

A half-day connected to an Uzushio Cruise

Uzushio Cruises depart from Fukura Port, so plan around the timetable and expected tide conditions. Use Michi-no-Eki Uzushio for a meal, shopping and bridge views before or after boarding.

Michi-no-Eki Uzushio → Fukura Port and Uzushio Cruise → Michi-no-Eki Fukura or Awaji Puppet Theater.

Sailings can be cancelled because of weather; follow the operator's notices on the day.

Families wanting a toilet, snack and short walk around Awajishima-minami IC

A short reset with children

With 24-hour toilets, a nursing room, an outdoor terrace and changing views, this station works for a short change of pace rather than a long playground stop. Younger children can enjoy snacks and photos; older children may like hearing about the bridge and whirlpools.

Toilets → Milk Stand+ or rice balls → Lighthouse Plaza → next destination.

Wind, heat and rain change how the outdoor areas feel. Allow extra room for a stroller when crowded.

When you want more than an outdoor view

Minamiawaji on a rainy or windy day

The strait can be windy. If you cannot stay outside long, combine shopping, the restaurant and Uzushio Vision with Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum or the Uzushio Science Museum for a plan less dependent on weather.

Meal and shopping at the station → Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum → Fukura Port area.

Closing days differ by facility. Check official calendars, particularly for trips involving Thursdays or Tuesdays.

On the way home when you want to choose Awaji Island souvenirs carefully

Shopping and views for adults

The shop has many limited products; browsing onion-based foods and sweets can take time. Even after a meal, milk soft serve or coffee makes a brief final stop.

Shop → Milk Stand+ → rooftop viewpoint → Awajishima-minami IC.

Shops generally close around 17:00; if arriving in the evening, make time for shopping first.

Rinta's Minamiawaji itinerary

Plan the tides by time and keep meal options open. At Uzushio, the order of your stops makes travel easier.

Rinta Miyasaka sees Michi-no-Eki Uzushio as a place worth planning for. Knowing about the station-front parking, 24-hour toilets, Thursday closures, shop-by-shop hours and tide times in advance leaves more time to enjoy bridge views and onion dishes.

1

Plan parking

On busy days, consider Uzumachi Terrace and the shuttle. A parking plan saves energy for the visit.

2

See the bridge first

Head to the rooftop viewpoint while the weather is good. Wind and cloud can change the scene along the strait.

3

Choose between meals

Restaurant meals, burgers, rice balls and soft serve let you respond to family appetites and wait times.

4

Connect with the tide

If visiting Fukura Port or Uzu no Michi, make departure times and tide charts the center of your itinerary.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

A nursing room and 24-hour toilets make a short break convenient. Avoid crowded indoor areas and outdoor wind, and consider takeout for food.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Better for a short view and a sweet treat or rice ball than a long playground stay. Leave time to switch between carrying a child and using a stroller.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

The bridge, sea and onion dishes are easy to enjoy through photos and snacks. If the restaurant wait is long, moving to the outdoor terrace may help.

Elementary school children
★★★★☆

Children of this age can explore how tides affect whirlpools, the bridge structure and how the cruise differs from the viewpoint. Add Fukura Port or the Uzushio Science Museum for an educational half-day.

Uzushio Cruise timetable

For a whirlpool trip, first check departure times from Fukura Port and the expected tide conditions. Plan your station time as a tide wait or a meal after sailing.

Weather around the Naruto Strait

Wind, rain and heat change conditions by the strait. Check the forecast when outdoor viewpoints are the main draw; in rough weather, favor meals, shopping and indoor attractions.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Some days are easier without station-front parking

The 102-space station-front lot is convenient, but on holiday weekends or at lunchtime, plan for it to be full and for shuttle use. When crowded, choose meal options early rather than spending the visit searching for parking.

Whirlpools change in appearance; also plan for food and views

Whirlpools look different with the tide and weather. Bridge views, viewpoints, onion dishes and souvenirs give you other reasons to visit if the natural spectacle varies.

Keeping restaurant and takeout options open helps families

At one station, you can sit down at the restaurant, eat a burger, or choose rice balls and soft serve. If the wait is long, switching venues may be easier than holding out for one shop.

The outdoor terrace is pleasant, but wind and sun affect visit length

Lighthouse Plaza and Zekkei Uzu Plaza suit snacks and photos. The strait can be windy and summer sun strong, so families with babies may prefer alternating outdoor time with indoor breaks.

Shopping a little before the end is reassuring

The shop has many limited items, and browsing takes time. Look around before or after your meal to choose calmly before heading home.

With a dog, plan around the outdoor terrace

Pets are not allowed indoors. Official guidance says you can eat takeout with them on the outdoor terrace. On hot or crowded days, keep the visit to a short view and takeout.

Visit during the day rather than staying overnight

The official FAQ describes the car park as a rest facility and prohibits extended stays and camping activities. The 24-hour toilets are useful, while views, dining and shopping are best enjoyed in daytime.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Awajishima-minami IC is nearby, but the station is on a regular road, outside the expressway.
  • If the station-front lot is crowded, check notices for the free temporary shuttle from Narutomisaki parking area, Uzumachi Terrace.
  • Thursday is the usual closing day, so watch for it on weekday trips.
  • Notices say the outdoor plaza can be used outside business hours, but it is unlit; take care when visiting after dark.
  • The 24-hour toilets are available, but avoid extended stays and camping; use the station as a daytime rest and sightseeing stop.
  • For a whirlpool trip, first check the Uzushio Cruise timetable from Fukura Port or the tide chart on the Naruto side.
  • Dogs are not allowed indoors. Plan around takeout and the outdoor terrace.
  • Summer sun, winter wind and rough weather change outdoor comfort. Leave room to switch to indoor dining and shopping.
Food

Eating and shopping

Specialities, places to eat, sweets and bakeries can all give you a reason to stop. Check individual menus for current prices and availability.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Illustrative image — not an on-site photograph
Choose lunch

Irori Shokudo Uzushio / Awajishima Burger

Choose the restaurant for seated seafood and local dishes, or a burger for a quicker meal with the view. Families can split between the two.

Queues are likely at peak times, so decide on options soon after arrival.

A local taste in a short stop

Nigirimeshi Gyutto / Awaji wagyu beef-wrapped rice ball

If a boat departure or your next journey is close, takeout with a strait view still gives you a taste of the station.

Sellouts and availability vary on the day.

Pause for something sweet

Awajishima Milk Stand+ / milk soft serve / coffee

Good for a brief break for children or companions after lunch elsewhere.

Wind can make eating outdoors awkward.

Shop before leaving

Shop Uzu no Kuni Main Store / Awaji Island onion products / limited items

With roughly 1,000 products and limited items, shopping can be a main reason to stop on the way home.

Check closing time if arriving late; do not leave shopping until the last moment.

Alternatives when crowded

Takeout / Uzumachi Terrace / Uzu no Oka

If station parking or the restaurant is busy, use the shuttle when running or shift mealtime around nearby facilities.

Check official notices for long weekends, summer holidays and event days.
