Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings
Start at the morning market, then choose lunch
Browse vegetables and processed foods at the Tamba Highlands Fresh Picked Vegetable Market first. Then decide where to eat based on what has sold out and how much you are carrying. If children get restless, shorten the shopping and head to the food court.
Parking → toilets → morning market → Sundaiko/Tan no Kura → food court
The market operates only on certain mornings. Come before noon for vegetables; if arriving late, try the supermarket.
Families with children, three generations or different lunch preferences
Use it as a rainy day lunch stop
Meals, shopping, a nursing room and an ostomy accessible toilet are indoors, making this a useful alternative when outdoor plans fall through. Adults can choose Tamba beef or casual Chinese dishes, while children can have bread, crepes or other snacks.
Parking → nursing room/toilets → food court → game corner → souvenirs
At weekend lunchtime, seats and order lines can get busy. Keep bakery items or takeaway as an option.
A day when children aged four and up need active play
Continue to Tamba Nature Sports Park after lunch
Have lunch and use the toilets at Tamba Markes, then drive to Tamba Nature Sports Park. With its giant slide, adventure playground, lawn and picnic hill, it is easier to use the station for a break and the park for exercise.
Station → children's square at Tamba Nature Sports Park → observatory or lawn if time allows
The park is large. With small children, choose a parking area near the playground before setting off.
Sunny days, adults or children of elementary school age and up
Add a short nature walk at Koto Falls
After eating and shopping at the station, drive to Koto Falls Park. A waterfall runs down a 43 m high single rock face, with forest paths nearby. It adds some Kyotamba nature without requiring a long hike.
Station → Koto Falls Park → back for more souvenirs, or on to Tamba IC
The falls require a walk. Watch your footing after rain and during leaf fall, and keep plans modest with toddlers.
A day connecting Kyotamba food and shopping
Explore local food further at Tamba Wine
After looking for black soybeans, chestnuts and Tamba beef at Markes, continue to Tamba Wine House if opening days and reservation requirements suit your plans. A winery tour or shop visit adds another side of the area's food culture.
Station → Tamba Wine House → Tamba IC or National Route 9
If tasting wine, arrange a driver who will not drink. Check official information for tour reservations and restaurant opening days.
