How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First, on arrival
Choose between the food hall and products hall

For a meal, head to Imizu Kitchen; for snacks or sweets, try Imizu CAFE; for shopping, use the products hall. With two halls, setting your priority first helps on a short stop.

For lunch
Consider white shrimp, cherry salmon, crab or noodles

The official guide lists seafood bowls, sushi, udon, soba, ramen and set meals. At lunchtime, keeping noodles or a lighter meal as alternatives makes the visit easier if your first seafood choice is unavailable.

To take something home
Masu-zushi, kamaboko, white-shrimp crackers and farm-direct vegetables

The products hall sells souvenirs from across Toyama Prefecture, making it useful for extra purchases during a wider Toyama trip as well as an Imizu visit. Popular items and farm-direct produce vary by time of day.

With children
Plan around the food hall's kids' area and nursing room

The kids' area is designated for ages 3–6. With an infant, locate the food hall nursing room (8:00–19:00) and the 24-hour toilets on the east side of the Road Information Hall. The baby-care room inside that hall cannot be used during renovation from September 14, 2026, scheduled through late January 2027.

Adults only
Add a nearby hot spring or museum

Kaio natural hot spring is close by, and the Imizu City Shinminato Museum is within walking distance. Either provides an easy option after a short meal stop.

Going on to the harbor town
Drive about 15 minutes to Uchikawa or Kaiwomaru Park

On clear days, enjoy the harbor views; in rain or strong wind, the river station or museum can make a more comfortable alternative.

Highlights

Renamed and revamped in November 2025 from the former Kamon Park Shinminato, Marugoto Imizu offers masu-zushi (Toyama-style pressed trout sushi), white-shrimp crackers, kamaboko fish cakes and farm-direct vegetables in its products hall. In the food hall, Imizu Kitchen serves seafood bowls and noodles, while Imizu CAFE offers white-shrimp burgers and sweets. A large kids' area, nursing room and 24-hour toilets, plus nearby Kaio natural hot spring, make it useful for a short Route 8 break or a half-day drive toward Shinminato, Uchikawa and Kaiwomaru Park.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Enjoy Imizu's food at lunch and take some home

There is more here than a seafood meal. Choose white shrimp, cherry salmon, crab or noodles at Imizu Kitchen, then browse the products hall for masu-zushi (pressed trout sushi), white-shrimp crackers, kamaboko fish cakes and farm-direct vegetables. Even on a Route 8 rest stop, you can enjoy Toyama Bay flavors now and bring some home.

02

The new food hall makes waiting easier with children

The food hall has ample seating, a kids' area with wooden play equipment, a nursing room and a childcare-supply vending machine. Children can move around a little while waiting for food or after eating, before you continue to Kaiwomaru Park or Uchikawa. With a toddler, it helps to have food, toilets and play in one place; check the kids' area's 3–6 age guidance.

03

A hot spring, museum and harbor town are close by

Kaio natural hot spring and the Imizu City Shinminato Museum are very close to the station. A short drive leads to Uchikawa, Kaiwomaru Park or Taikoyama Land. Shop and head home, visit the museum on a rainy day, or go to the harbor in fine weather: this is an easy starting point for half a day around Imizu.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Driving between Toyama and Takaoka, or heading toward Shinminato from the Hokuriku Expressway's Kosugi IC

Turn a Route 8 lunch stop into white shrimp and souvenir shopping

On the way from Kosugi IC toward Shinminato, this station makes it easy to combine a meal with shopping. Choose a seafood bowl or noodles at Imizu Kitchen, or a white-shrimp burger or sweets at Imizu CAFE. After eating, browse the products hall for masu-zushi, kamaboko and white-shrimp crackers, turning a break into time for Toyama souvenirs.

Beside National Route 8. The official access guide puts it about 15 minutes from Kosugi IC on the Hokuriku Expressway via Route 472 toward Shinminato.

Seats in the food hall may turn over at lunchtime, while sought-after products can run low at certain times. Having another meal option makes the stop more relaxed.

Families with children aged 3–6; days with unpredictable weather

With young children, fit indoor play around the meal

The food hall's kids' area has large wooden equipment and instructions to remove shoes. Children aged 3–6 can move around while waiting for food, after eating or before the next stop. A nursing room and childcare-supply vending machine also help families traveling with babies and young children, although the play area itself is designated for ages 3–6.

Eat at the food hall, then check the kids' area, nursing room and toilets in the same building.

Children need adult supervision in the kids' area, and the official age range is 3–6. A shorter play session may suit a busy day.

Long drives, travel into the evening, or an early start

Add a hot spring after lunch to ease driving fatigue

Kaio natural hot spring is a day-use bath very near the station. It opens early on some days, and its guidance also suggests shorter soaks in its mineral-rich water. After eating and shopping, a bath can make a roadside break feel more like a trip.

Marugoto Imizu → Kaio natural hot spring; about 500 m from the station, a few minutes by car.

The bath lists Mondays as its regular closing day, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday. Fees and Sunday closing times may change, so check its official information on the day of your visit.

A short outing for adults, or introducing children to Imizu

Choose the museum in rain or the harbor in fine weather

The Imizu City Shinminato Museum beside the station covers local history and old maps even when rain or strong wind makes the harbor less inviting. In fine weather, continue to Uchikawa or Kaiwomaru Park for harbor-town views after your white-shrimp or seafood meal. The next stop is easy to choose according to the weather.

Rain: station → Imizu City Shinminato Museum. Fine weather: station → Kawa no Eki Shinminato and Uchikawa → Kaiwomaru Park.

The museum closes on some Tuesdays and days after public holidays. Wind can be strong around the harbor, so consider a shorter outdoor visit.

A short weekend detour; looking for activities with children

Make a seasonal event the reason for an extra stop

The official event listings include a puzzle-solving event, a coloring aquarium, monthly calendars and yosakoi dance. Food and local products are the everyday draw, but events bring different activities to Minato Plaza and the buildings. If the dates fit, add an activity to your shopping stop.

Check event dates in the official listings and allow extra time if the event overlaps the meal rush.

Events with set dates end quickly; check the official event page before departure.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 or younger
★★★★☆

The food hall nursing room has a diaper-changing table, and the east-side toilets are open 24 hours, making this a useful care stop. Combine food and infant care rather than planning around the kids' play area. The separate baby-care room inside the Road Information Hall is unavailable during renovation from September 14, 2026, scheduled through late January 2027.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The kids' area is designated for ages 3–6. A three-year-old may enjoy a short break before or after food; for a two-year-old, use other rest facilities, since the play area's official age guidance starts at three.

Ages 4–6
★★★★★

The kids' area with wooden equipment is best suited to this age range. Noodles or sweets provide meal options if children do not want seafood.

Elementary-school age
★★★★☆

The kids' area is for preschool children aged 3–6, but the fish tank, products hall, Kaiwomaru Park or Uchikawa can give older children something to enjoy. The Shinminato Museum is another option in rain.

Nursing and diapers

The official guide lists a food hall nursing room with a diaper-changing table (8:00–19:00) and a childcare-supply vending machine. The separate baby-care room inside the Road Information Hall cannot be used while the hall is closed to entry for renovation from September 14, 2026, scheduled through late January 2027.

Play area

The kids' area is open 8:00–19:00, designated for ages 3–6, and does not allow outside food or drink.

Meals

Alongside seafood, there are noodles, set meals, sweets and café options to match children's preferences.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
Use the east-side toilets before choosing a longer stop

The east-side toilets of the Road Information Hall remain open 24 hours and make a useful break on a long drive. The hall itself and its surroundings are closed to entry during renovation from September 14, 2026, scheduled through late January 2027.

  2. 2
Choose a meal based on available seating

Listed seating is 92 places at Imizu Kitchen, 32 at Imizu CAFE and 44 at jigen coffee. If walking distances matter to someone in your group, a lighter meal may be easier at busy times.

  3. 3
Add a hot spring or museum

Kaio natural hot spring is close by and the Shinminato Museum is within walking distance. Choose according to the weather and your energy.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Minato Plaza

This outdoor plaza is in front of the food hall. The official event calendar lists it as a food-truck venue on a holiday weekend; the yosakoi dance performances were announced to end in September 2026. On event days, the outdoor activity adds to eating and shopping.

Food hall

With its coloring aquarium event and kids' area, this indoor building suits activities for children.

Jigen coffee space

An official call invites use of this space on Wednesdays for local revitalization; it may host workshops or sales of small goods.

Products hall

Commemorative roadside-station tickets, a station stamp and manhole cards let you collect travel mementos while shopping. Station stamps are ink impressions collected at roadside stations; manhole cards feature local manhole-cover designs.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

After the renovation, how you use the two halls shapes your visit

The city announcement and a visitor report describe the two-hall arrangement, expanded sales space and new food court as major changes. On a short visit, choose food or shopping first, then see the other hall if time allows.

Noodles and snacks offer alternatives to seafood

White shrimp and crab stand out, but the food court also lists udon, soba, ramen, set meals and children's dishes. The range helps when a group has different tastes.

Shopping serves both souvenir hunting and everyday needs

The products hall lists seafood, masu-zushi, sweets, sundries and farm-direct vegetables among its varied goods. It serves local shoppers as well as visitors.

Indoor play and care facilities help families pause

The official facility guide lists a kids' area, nursing room, baby-care room and childcare-supply vending machine. The kids' area is designated for ages 3–6; the baby-care room inside the Road Information Hall is unavailable during renovation from September 14, 2026, scheduled through late January 2027. In bad weather or on a long drive, these details help plan a rest stop.

A nearby hot spring and museum provide next stops in any weather

The station's nearby-sights page lists Kaio natural hot spring, the Imizu City Shinminato Museum, Uchikawa and Kaiwomaru Park. Choose a bath after eating, the museum in rain or a harbor-town walk in fine weather.

Allow extra time for parking and meals on event days

Official listings include yosakoi dance, puzzle-solving events, a coloring aquarium and monthly calendars. Events change the usual flow of visitors, so moving your meal away from the peak can make the stop easier. The yosakoi performances were announced to end in September 2026.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • The products hall and Imizu Kitchen generally open 8:00–19:00, while Imizu CAFE and jigen coffee keep different hours. In the evening or on Wednesdays, check the day's official notices.
  • The Road Information Hall and its surroundings are closed to entry for renovation from September 14, 2026, scheduled through late January 2027. Its east-side toilets and the open terrace are available 24 hours, although weather may close the terrace. For an early or late break, distinguish these rest facilities from shopping and dining hours.
  • The official guide designates the kids' area for ages 3–6, requires adult supervision and forbids bringing in food or drink. It works as a break between eating and traveling.
  • An official notice says the former EV chargers stopped operating on March 31, 2026, with new equipment planned. Check official updates before going there specifically to charge an EV.
  • On event days, check the official calendar and notices. Shifting your meal away from peak time can ease shopping and a family rest stop.
  • Wind and rain can change an outdoor harbor visit. If walking Uchikawa or visiting Kaiwomaru Park is difficult, consider the Imizu City Shinminato Museum or Kaio natural hot spring instead.
Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Illustrative image — not an on-site photograph
A substantial seafood meal

White shrimp / cherry salmon / crab / seafood bowl / sushi

A first choice for tasting Shinminato. After Toyama Bay seafood, visit the products hall to choose something to take home.

Seafood offerings vary by season and catch; check official seasonal information and the day's menu.

Easy to share with children

Udon / soba / ramen / set meals / children's meals

The food hall's noodles and set meals help when someone in your group prefers something other than seafood. They also make a practical Route 8 rest-stop meal.

When busy, keep ordering and finding seats manageable, and allow time to move with children to the kids' area.

Keep it light

Original white-shrimp burger / gelato / seasonal sweets / coffee

Good for a small break before heading toward the harbor or when you do not want a full lunch. Even a sweet or coffee gives the stop its own flavor.

Imizu CAFE and jigen coffee have different opening hours and closing days, so check official listings in the evening or on Wednesdays.

Buy something for the car or home

Masu-zushi / kamaboko / white-shrimp crackers / farm-direct vegetables / flowers

The products hall offers souvenirs from across the prefecture as well as everyday local goods. It works for last purchases before leaving Toyama or for local shopping. Time purchases of refrigerated items for your trip home.

Farm-direct and seasonal stock varies over the day. Visit earlier if you want a particular item.

Time your visit for an event

Food trucks / limited-time sweets / seasonal wappa-meshi

In late September 2026, the official homepage featured Imizu Kitchen's seasonal wappa-meshi, rice served in a wooden container with eel and cherry salmon, and an Imizu CAFE seasonal cup dessert combining gelato and chiffon cake. Pairing a visit with an event can make the stop more memorable.

Limited-time dishes can end or sell out; check current menus rather than assuming they are always offered.
