How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First, take care of
Toilets and shopping time

Parking, public toilets and the EV rapid charger are listed as available 24 hours. Plan on 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. for the shops.

For a meal
Tsu no Mono Kitchen or the bakery

Choose a morning meal, a set lunch, or a quick Tsu Gyoza Dog or anpan. The weekday restaurant is listed as closing at 3:00 p.m., with last orders at 2:30 p.m.

To shop
Kuroda rice, vegetables, seafood and Tsu sweets

Produce from the coast and inland areas shares the sales floor. Choose separately for dinner and snacks on the drive.

For active children
Keep the station stop short, then visit HOWA Park

Eat and use the toilets at the station, then drive a few minutes to the park for play equipment and lawns.

On a rainy day
Switch to meals, shopping and a bath

Choose Tsu foods at the station. If you want a longer stop, add Gokurakuyu Tsu, a public bath facility, to keep plans less dependent on the weather.

Minato’s family drive notes

Get organized at the station, then head to a park or bath. Take Tsu flavors home.

Minato Hayase sees this station as a place to organize the next steps of a family drive, rather than a destination for long play. Use the toilets, eat and shop here; choose HOWA Park in fair weather, a bath facility in rain, or Senjuji Temple or the marina for a more adult-focused stop. A Tsu Gyoza Dog or Kuroda rice adds a small pleasure to the onward trip.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Seafood, mountain produce and Tsu specialties in one place

Tsu Kawage offers more than tourist souvenirs: many products can go home for dinner. Separate shelves hold local vegetables, seafood, seaweed, pickles, konnyaku (a firm yam-based food), seasonings, Kuroda rice and sweets from around Mie Prefecture, making it easy to shop with a purpose even during a short break.

02

Choose among Kuroda rice, local fish, set meals with Matsusaka beef and bread

At Tsu no Mono Kitchen, the main choices are set meals featuring Kuroda rice, seafood and local meat. The bakery offers Tsu Gyoza Dogs—a bread version of Tsu-style gyoza dumplings—and Tsu Kawage anpan, sweet bean buns that are easy to eat on a drive. The restaurant closes at different times on weekdays and on weekends and holidays, so for a late lunch leave room to switch to the bakery or soft serve.

03

Take care of family needs here, then head to the nearby park to play

The station suits shopping, meals and toilet breaks, but is not a place for extended play. Families with children through elementary school age can eat and use the toilets here first, then head to HOWA Park for lawns, play equipment, grass sledding and a cafe. That also makes it easier to adjust plans after rain or on a hot day.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A family drive toward Suzuka or Tsu

Make an early Route 23 stop with breakfast in mind

The station is usable from the 7:00 a.m. hour, so you can combine a morning toilet break and breakfast. Feed hungry children first, buy Kuroda rice or bread, then continue before noon with an easier journey ahead.

Park → toilets → morning meal or bread → quick look at the produce market → depart

The bakery and market may not yet have their full selection early in the day. Allow some time later in the morning if shopping is your main purpose.

A weekend centered on eating and shopping

Gather Tsu flavors at lunch and buy something for dinner

Choose a seafood or Kuroda rice set meal at Tsu no Mono Kitchen, then visit the bakery, soft-serve counter and produce market. Handwritten shelf labels and product descriptions make it enjoyable to separate food for today from food to take home.

Restaurant → bakery → produce market → souvenirs and local sake

Lunch and checkout lines can coincide on holidays. Keep bread or sweets as an alternative so the schedule stays flexible.

Half a day outdoors with preschool and elementary school children

Pair the station with HOWA Park for children

Get a meal, toilet break, drinks and a light snack at the station, then head to HOWA Park for lawns, play equipment and grass sledding. The reverse order also works: play first, then return to the station for soft serve or shopping.

Lunch and toilets at the station → HOWA Park → sweets or shopping at the station

Park facilities such as grass sledding, barbecue, the dog run and cafe can change their hours and admission arrangements; check the park’s official information.

An afternoon with uncertain weather

On a rainy day, combine shopping with a bath

When outdoor play is difficult, choose a Tsu Gyoza Dog, Kuroda rice sablé and local vegetables at the station, then head toward Shirotsuka for Gokurakuyu Tsu. Separating meals, shopping and bathing can help keep children occupied in the rain.

Shop at the station → Gokurakuyu Tsu → adjust meal plans around Senopark

Bath prices, admission restrictions and maintenance closures can change. Check the facility’s official information on the day of your visit.

A drive with a short sightseeing stop

For adults, continue to Senjuji Temple or the marina

After food and souvenirs at Tsu Kawage, go to Takadahonzan Senjuji Temple, which has National Treasure buildings, or Marina Kawage for an Ise Bay coastal setting. A shopping break can lead naturally to culture, the seaside or a cafe.

Station → Senjuji Temple or Marina Kawage → return journey

Check when Senjuji Temple closes its halls and the operating days of Marina Kawage’s restaurant and barbecue facilities before leaving.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

A toilet stop and short meal are manageable; for a long stay, use the station as a rest stop rather than a play area.

Keep shopping aisles and meal time brief, and return to the car before the child gets sleepy. Check on the day for information about nursing and diaper-changing facilities.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

A bread or soft-serve stop gives the visit a clear purpose.

With many product shelves, it is easier to use the toilet first, eat next and shop last. Head to HOWA Park when it is time to run around.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

A Tsu Gyoza Dog and park visit can turn the stop into half a day.

Children can enjoy picking bread or a sweet at the station, then move to lawns and play equipment. In rain, switch to a bath facility or indoor shopping.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Kuroda rice, Tsu gyoza and local fish are easy starting points for talking about regional food.

Add HOWA Park, Senjuji Temple or Marina Kawage to the shopping stop so children can experience play, culture or the coast alongside the food.

A source of Tsu City visitor information

The tourism association presents the station as a place for current information about Tsu City. After food and souvenirs, it can lead into a visit to Senjuji Temple, Marina Kawage or the historic Ise Betsukaido route.

Seasonal events at Takadahonzan

Summer lotus flowers, morning rice porridge and the market on the 16th of each month, and autumn Buddhist services are among the events within driving distance. For an early or late visit, check the gate and hall closing times.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Browse Tsu ingredients together in the market

The official station information and Kanko Mie highlight vegetables, seafood, Kuroda rice, seasonings, sweets and local sake. As well as souvenirs, consider an ingredient for dinner or rice to eat at home.

The bakery’s Tsu Gyoza Dog stands out

Travel sites and food posts often mention the Tsu Gyoza Dog, savory buns and Tsu Kawage anpan. Even without a restaurant meal, bread offers a taste of Tsu to take away.

Check the restaurant’s different weekday and holiday hours

The Tsu City Tourism Association lists restaurant hours from September 1, 2025, as 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. on weekdays (last orders 2:30 p.m.) and 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays (last orders 4:30 p.m.). For a late lunch, keep the bakery or sweets as an alternative.

For families, the nearby park provides the play time

Family travel information and tourism guides position the station for shopping and meals, and nearby HOWA Park for lawns and play equipment. Rest at the station before going to the park, especially with children of different ages.

Weekend events change with recent announcements

The official site links to Instagram and an event calendar for demonstrations, crafts and anniversary programs. If an event is your goal, check recent posts as well as normal hours.

Add a bath to a rainy-day plan

The station’s shops and dining area can fill a short stop. When rain rules out the park, Gokurakuyu Tsu adds bathing, a dining area and a place to rest. In the evening, note its restrictions on minors entering without adults.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • If shopping is the aim, go in the morning; for lunch, distinguish the restaurant’s weekday and weekend or holiday closing times.
  • Tsu Gyoza Dogs and savory buns are alternatives if the restaurant has a wait or children are hungry.
  • Bring a cooler bag when buying seafood or prepared dishes.
  • Consider HOWA Park for play, or Gokurakuyu Tsu for a rainy day.
  • Check the official Instagram account shortly before visiting for events and demonstrations.
  • Second and third parking areas are also listed. Early in the morning or at night, plan a short stop around the facilities available 24 hours.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Use it in the morning

Morning menu, bakery

Suitable for a break from 7:00 a.m. Before a long drive, choose between eating at a table and buying bread to share in the car.

Have a full lunch

Tsu no Mono Kitchen set meals, Kuroda rice

Choose the restaurant for a meal of local ingredients. Plan around a 3:00 p.m. weekday closing time (last orders 2:30 p.m.) and 5:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays (last orders 4:30 p.m.).

Eat quickly

Tsu Gyoza Dog, Tsu Kawage anpan, savory buns

A useful option when the dining room has a wait or children are hungry. Savory buns are easier to find around lunchtime.

Pause for something sweet

Anotsu Farm soft serve, seasonal flavors

Good for a short break after shopping. On hot days, eat it first and choose take-home goods last.

Eat at home

Kuroda rice, seafood, vegetables, pickles, seasonings, Kuroda rice sablé

Shop for dinner and souvenirs together. In summer, a cooler bag makes seafood and prepared dishes easier to take home.
