Highlights

Park Shichiri Mihama is a roadside station where you can experience Mihama Town's claim to be a place that grows mandarins year-round through shopping and a break. It brings together 100% mandarin juice, local products, produce at Mihama Loco, a sea-view restaurant, tourist information, a rooftop dog run and RV park reception. It deserves more than a quick pass along Route 42. For a short visit, try juice and souvenirs; with more time, walk to Kuroshio Bridge or Fureai Beach for the sound and breeze of Shichiri Mihama.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Choose Mihama mandarins by tasting them

A first pleasure here is the rich mandarin flavor that defines Mihama Town. The 100% mandarin juices include varieties such as Unshu, Shiranui, Ponkan, Setoka, Amanatsu and Meyer lemon. Comparing them or taking a bottle home lets you choose by acidity and aroma as well as sweetness, making this a memorable food stop.

02

Take time to eat with a sea view

The third-floor dining room overlooks the Kumano-nada Sea and Shichiri Mihama. Sashimi set meals, tuna rice bowls, sanma-zushi (saury sushi) and mehari-zushi (rice wrapped in pickled greens) bring together Kumano seafood and local flavors. Even without a restaurant meal, the deck and the tourist information center's cafe can make a shopping break feel more like a trip.

03

Step outside the station for Shichiri Mihama

Instead of staying in the parking lot, walk to Kuroshio Bridge or Shichiri Mihama Fureai Beach. The coast is unsuitable for swimming and its waves require care, but you can enjoy the view, sea breeze, photographs and a change of scene for children. Add a few minutes by the sea to a long drive on Route 42.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A late-morning or midday drive toward Kumano City, Kiho Town or Shingu

Turn a Route 42 break into time with Mihama mandarins

This station deserves more than a toilet stop. Browse mandarin juice in the local products shop, then choose seasonal citrus, pickled plums, dried fish or souvenirs. When tastings are available, differences between mandarins make choosing a bottle to take home more fun.

Parking → Tsuji Marche and Hamakaido → Tourist Center → back to the car.

Popular varieties and seasonal goods sell out. Visit earlier if you have a particular item in mind.

Adults, three-generation groups, and anyone wanting both a Kumano-nada view and a meal

Make lunch with a sea view the main event

The third-floor restaurant pairs food with a view. Sashimi set meals, tuna rice bowls, sanma-zushi (saury sushi) and mehari-zushi (rice wrapped in pickled greens) bring Kumano flavors to the meal. If it is busy or closed, cafes and shop snacks offer a lighter alternative.

Browse the shops briefly, then go to the third floor. After eating, visit tourist information or Kuroshio Bridge.

Lunch hours are short, so plan around the midday service if you are coming to eat.

A break on a long journey with preschool or primary-school children

With children, add the coast to a shopping stop

There is no large playground inside the station, but children can get some fresh air at Shichiri Mihama Fureai Beach or Kuroshio Bridge. Look for the Poké Lid, drink juice and watch the sea. These small activities give even a short break some variety.

Parking → Poké Lid → juice → Kuroshio Bridge or Fureai Beach.

Swimming is prohibited along Shichiri Mihama, and high waves are a hazard. Keep walks back from the water's edge.

Drives with dogs, cycling trips and visits before or after the Kumano Kodo Iseji route

Make use of the rooftop and tourist information when traveling with a dog or bicycle

The rooftop dog run and cycle racks, showers and tourist information center make it easy to regroup during a journey. Dogs can have a short break while people collect leaflets and drinks for the next leg. On windy coastal days or in midsummer, limit time outside.

Collect information at tourist information → use the rooftop facilities or shops → continue to the next destination.

Rooftop facilities are subject to registration, use conditions and weather.

Days planned around local food, crafts and seasonal mandarins

On market days, make the station your destination

Events such as the mihama Food and Goods Market and Mie no Ichibanboshi sale have been held near the main entrance. They offer a chance to meet local sellers. September's green mandarins are particularly characteristic of Mihama, giving you a reason to plan a visit around an announced date.

Check official and Tourism Mie event dates, and allow time for parking and lunch.

Event dates, sellers and hours change. Treat past events as past events and wait for a new announcement before planning a visit.

Families, a short outing after rain, or a drive toward southern Kii

For a half day, continue from Shichiri Mihama to Kiho Town Umigame Park

Eat and shop at Park Shichiri Mihama, admire the sea at Fureai Beach, then drive south to Michi-no-Eki Kihocho Umigame Park. It adds a child-friendly destination and makes a coherent coastal drive.

Park Shichiri Mihama → Shichiri Mihama Fureai Beach → Michi-no-Eki Kihocho Umigame Park.

Weather and wind change the feel of the coast. In rough weather, focus on indoor shopping and meals.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age one or younger
★★★☆☆

The 24-hour toilets and tourist information center are useful, while shopping and views are the main attractions. Check where to feed and change a baby before settling in.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Looking for the Poké Lid and taking a juice break can be fun. At the coast, stay back from the surf and keep the walk short.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Choosing mandarin juice, spotting the Poké Lid and feeling the breeze at Fureai Beach provide a series of small activities.

Primary-school children
★★★★☆

Children of this age can walk while hearing about the Kumano Kodo and Shichiri Mihama. For a half-day trip, add Umigame Park.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
Choose a parking space near the facilities

The parking area is spacious. Park near the building for food, toilets and tourist information, or consider your walking distance if heading to Fureai Beach.

  2. 2
Check hours before deciding on a meal

Third-floor lunch is appealing, but its days and hours are limited. Leave room to switch to juice or the cafe instead of waiting.

  3. 3
Keep the coastal walk short according to wind and waves

Shichiri Mihama has fine views but strong waves. Watch your footing and the wind; even a view from Kuroshio Bridge can be enough.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Mandarin juice makes a short stop more satisfying

The official site lists 100% mandarin juices from several varieties, and reviews and social media also mention comparing them. Even without a meal, choosing a juice leaves you with a taste of Mihama Town.

The attached supermarket serves travelers and local shoppers

Reviews mention the convenience of the supermarket and large parking area alongside souvenirs. This is both a travel stop and a place for local everyday shopping.

The sea-view restaurant makes lunch memorable

Tourism Mie and Mihama Town Promotion describe the view of the Kumano-nada Sea from the third floor. The view from your seat complements the sashimi and local dishes.

Shichiri Mihama is a sea to admire: stay back from the water

The Higashikishu Tourism Guide says swimming is prohibited along all of Shichiri Mihama and warns of high waves. Enjoy it for walking, views and photographs while keeping a safe distance from the water.

Markets and green-mandarin season make the station a destination

Events have included a July 2026 night market, a September 2026 Mie no Ichibanboshi sale, and a Mihama Loco special sale listed for the third Sunday of each month. Check new announcements before planning a trip around seasonal mandarins.

Varieties and availability change with the season and stock.

Have a full meal

Sashimi set meal / tuna rice bowl / sanma-zushi (saury sushi) / mehari-zushi (rice wrapped in pickled greens)

Add a Kumano-nada sea view to your meal. Looking out from the third floor makes lunch here distinctive.

Lunch service is short, and Wednesday is listed as a closing day. Check current information before visiting for a meal.

Have a snack

Croquettes / cafe drinks / Assam tea / coffee

Even without a restaurant meal, a cafe or takeaway gives you a break. Given wind and litter concerns, enjoying it around the station may be easier than carrying it to the coast.

Cafe last-order times and closing days vary by facility.

Shop to take home

Seasonal mandarins / mandarin juice / pickled Nanko plums / dried fish / Iwashimizu pork / local vegetables

Shop for your table at home as well as souvenirs. Mihama Loco offers another look at local everyday produce.

The produce market has the best selection earlier in the day.

Choose an event day

mihama Food and Goods Market / Mie no Ichibanboshi sale / Mihama Loco special sale

Market days can bring you closer to local ingredients and producers than an ordinary shopping day. Look for announced events if Mihama food is your aim.
