How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Get ready first
Toilets and shop

Before or after the mountain road, use the toilets and pick up drinks, light food, or missing camping supplies.

If shopping
Marinated meat, game meat, and seasonal local products

Before camping, look for easy-to-cook meat, firewood, and charcoal; on the way home, consider frozen or processed products.

If eating
Goheimochi, soft serve, and weekend coffee

Plan around light meals and sweets as alternatives if food service hours change.

If outdoors
Maruyama River, fishing pond, and putting golf

From April to mid-November, add a short outdoor activity when weather allows.

If exploring nearby
Menoki Nature Park or Chausuyama Highlands

Choose views and walks in clear weather; in rain or fog, switch to a hot spring or shopping rather than forcing a walk.

Minato's rest-stop notes

Reset your supplies, weather plan, and energy midway along the mountain road.

Minato Kuzumi sees this station as a place to regroup before or after Okumikawa's mountain roads as well as a campground check-in point. Sort out toilets, parking, opening hours, food, and extra supplies first. If energy allows, add the river, stars, Menoki, or Chausuyama. A modest plan leaves more room to enjoy the highland time.

I want to pick up one more thing at the shop, check the weather, and set off along the next mountain road without rushing.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Tsugu Kogen Green Park is a roadside station with a campground in Tsugu, Shitara Town, at about 900 m above sea level. The shop carries seasonal local products, vegetables, marinated meat, Okumikawa Kogen game meat, shiitake mushrooms, konnyaku (yam jelly), and camping supplies. From April through November, soft serve and a weekend coffee stand offer another break. For a short stop, use the toilets, shop, and rest area before or after the mountain roads. With more time, explore the Maruyama River's waterside, fishing pond, stargazing, Menoki Nature Park, and Chausuyama Highlands.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A roadside stop and a camping resort share one site

Stop briefly for the shop and toilets, or stay for camping, bungalows, stargazing, and river play. Think of the roadside station area as a break on a mountain drive and the wider Green Park as a destination for an overnight or half-day visit.

02

Start with Okumikawa meats and mountain foods in the shop

Depending on the season, the shop stocks vegetables, fruit, sweets, Shitara's marinated meat, Okumikawa Kogen game meat, whole simmered ayu sweetfish, shiitake mushrooms, konnyaku (yam jelly), and tomato juice. It is useful both for topping up before camping and for shopping on the way home.

03

At about 900 m, plan for cool air, weather, and road conditions

The official guidance suggests temperatures about 5–8°C below those in Nagoya or Toyota and advises preparing for snow and subzero temperatures in winter. Bring rain gear and an evening layer even in summer; in winter, plan for winter tires or chains.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A drive on Prefectural Route 10 or Chausuyama Highland Road

Take a 30-minute break between mountain roads

After parking, use the toilets first, then look in the shop for drinks, light meals, seasonal soft serve, and take-home products. Even a brief stop gives you cool highland air and a nearby forest before the next stretch of mountain road.

Parking → toilets → shop → rest area → departure

The shop generally closes Wednesday and Thursday, shortens winter hours, and may close temporarily. Use 9:00–17:00, or until 16:00 in winter, as a guide for the general facility; shop sales may end earlier.

Overnight stays, day camping, or bungalow use

Top up supplies before camping

Check the shop for firewood, charcoal, gas canisters, basic camping goods, marinated meat, and game meat before heading to your site. You can return for forgotten items after arrival, but allow for limited fresh-food stock and opening hours in this mountain area.

Information desk → shop and outdoor supplies → check-in → campsite

Frozen meat and seasonal stock change. Buy your main ingredients en route and use this stop for extra supplies and a local specialty.

Families with school-age children and cool outdoor play

Spend a summer half-day by the river and outdoors

Combine the Maruyama River waterside area, fishing pond, and putting golf according to the weather. It may be cooler than in the city, but sunshine and sudden showers still matter: keep spare clothes, towels, and rain gear in the car.

Confirm activity hours and registration at the shop → river or fishing pond → soft serve → departure

Camping and open flames are prohibited beside the river. Check seasons, fees, and weather cancellations for the fishing pond and fish-catching activity.

Nights from mid-April into autumn, camping, and stargazing

Stay overnight for the stars

A daytime roadside stop cannot show you Tsugu's night sky. Match your stay to a stargazing session for overnight guests or a public observatory session, and plan the shop visit, dinner preparations, and warm night clothing together.

Shop and check-in by day → set up before dusk → stargazing at night → shop the next morning

Stargazing may be canceled because of weather. Bring a flashlight and warm clothes, as lighting around the grounds is kept low at night.

Spring flowers, summer coolness, and autumn leaves

Continue to Menoki and Chausuyama on a clear day

Rest and have a light meal at the station, then head to Menoki Nature Park's viewpoints or Chausuyama Highlands. Both are high-elevation places where fog, wind, and cold change the experience. Wear suitable shoes and bring a layer for walks; in poor weather, choose a hot spring or shopping instead.

Station → Menoki Nature Park → Chausuyama Highlands or Yu-Land Pal Toyone

From Nagoya, follow the officially recommended route via the Nishinagura intersection, Michi-no-Eki Agri Station Nagura, and Chausuyama Highland Road.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

A pleasant highland break, with longer stays depending on weather and the practicalities of feeding and changing.

Use the roadside station mainly for toilets and a short shop visit. Even summer evenings can be chilly; snow and ice in winter make preparation in the car a priority over a long stay.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Children may enjoy the river and shop, but need close attention on uneven ground and near water.

The waterside area is free to enjoy, but camping and fires are prohibited there. A short river visit followed by soft serve and the shop is manageable.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

The fishing pond, fish-catching activity, and putting golf make clear activities to aim for.

Catching fish and grilling your catch, or the summer-holiday fish-catching activity, can be memorable. Check the season, fees, weather cancellations, and no-pets rule first.

Elementary-school age
★★★★★

Easy to extend the day from the river and fishing to stargazing and nearby walks.

Try river play or putting golf by day and, for an overnight visit, a guest stargazing session or the observatory at night. Menoki Nature Park is another walking option; prepare suitable shoes and warm layers.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

2026 Perseid meteor shower viewing

This officially organized event was listed for August 12–13, 2026. For a stargazing trip, check cloud cover, warm clothing, night travel, and lodging or parking conditions.

GP CAMP.Fes2026

The annual appreciation festival was scheduled for September 5–6, 2026. September 5 was the eve-of-festival event, and general admission on September 6 was listed as free.

Autumn Leaves Festival

An autumn leaves festival with illumination is scheduled for early November 2026. It gets cold after sunset, so plan daytime walks and nighttime layers separately.

Year-end mochi pounding

Year-end mochi pounding is scheduled for December 26, 2026. Check the day's official notice and plan for shorter winter hours, snow, and icy roads. Mochi is pounded sticky rice cake.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

A short break and an overnight stay offer very different experiences

The official site presents the roadside station, grounds, stargazing tours, and activities on separate pages. Reviews and camping booking sites also describe both the convenience of an onsite shop and the value of staying at the campground. For a daytime stop, focus on the roadside station; allow a half-day or overnight stay for stars or river play.

The shop covers both camping extras and regional ingredients

The official roadside station page lists seasonal specialties, vegetables, fruit, sweets, outdoor goods, marinated meat, game meat, shiitake, konnyaku, and tomato juice. In practice, extra camping supplies, firewood, charcoal, chilled storage for frozen meat, and weekend coffee depend on stock and opening days. Distinguish your essential shopping from a local extra.

Stars are a major draw, but require more than a daytime stop

The official stargazing tour information lists sessions for overnight guests on some Saturday nights from mid-April to around late October, and public observatory sessions mainly on Fridays and Sundays from mid-April to around November. Bring a flashlight, warm clothes, and walking shoes, since lighting is kept low at night.

Summer river play and winter conditions call for different preparations

The official access guidance says the site is about 900 m high, roughly 5–8°C cooler than urban areas, with changeable summer weather and winter snow and subzero temperatures. Prepare beyond light summer clothing or ordinary winter tires.

Choose the Nagoya approach carefully

Official access guidance warns that the route from Nagoya through the Inabu-cho intersection past the Nagoya Outdoor Education Center is narrow and has many hazardous sections. It recommends the Nishinagura intersection, Michi-no-Eki Agri Station Nagura, and Chausuyama Highland Road instead. This is particularly useful if you are unfamiliar with mountain driving.

The river and fishing suit families, with weather and supervision in mind

The fishing pond is generally open 9:00–16:00 from mid-April to mid-November, the fish-catching activity runs during summer vacation, and the waterside area is free to use. Allow for wet clothes, grilling your catch yourself, the no-pets condition, weather cancellations, and close supervision by the water.

Stargazing, autumn leaves, and the camping festival shape the event calendar

The official 2026 event list includes fireflies, Perseid meteor shower viewing, GP CAMP.Fes, the Autumn Leaves Festival, and year-end mochi pounding. The firefly event had already ended in the schedule; for plans after September 2026, check the remaining upcoming events and current announcements.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Official guidance gives general facility hours of 9:00–17:00, or 9:00–16:00 in winter. Shitara's tourism guide also shows 9:00–18:00; check the facility's latest notice, especially as shop sales have separate hours.
  • Wednesday and Thursday are the usual closing days, with no regular closure during summer vacation and possible temporary closures. Check official notices or social media if your visit depends on a particular day.
  • From Nagoya, use the route via the Nishinagura intersection, Michi-no-Eki Agri Station Nagura, and Chausuyama Highland Road.

  • Camping and fires are prohibited in the river-play area. Supervise children beside the water and bring spare clothes.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Illustrative image — not an on-site photograph
Eat something quick

Goheimochi, soba or udon noodles, and light meals

For a roadside break, plan around light food. At lunchtime or when service changes, switch to soft serve or shop purchases.

Use it at camp

Marinated meat, Okumikawa Kogen game meat, shiitake, and konnyaku

Add a local ingredient to dinner. Bring a cooler bag and choose an extra dish here rather than relying on the shop for all your ingredients.

Pause for a sweet

Seasonal soft serve

A good match for a rest from April to November. Flavors change, including Damine tea in spring and tomato in summer.

Take it slowly on weekends

TOO GOOD COFFEE STAND

Mainly weekends and consecutive holidays from April to November. Hand-drip coffee can make the time before or after camp check-in more relaxed.

Take something home

Processed game meat, whole simmered ayu sweetfish, tomato juice, and local sweets

Choose frozen and processed products with your journey time and cooling in mind. On a hot day, buy them last before the long mountain drive home.
