How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First, take a break
Toilets and footbath

To reset after the drive, use the toilets and footbath first. The footbath closes in winter and hours may change; if it is unavailable, take a break with a view instead.

If you're eating
Fuji-san Gōriki Udon

Consider the station's signature udon noodles for lunch in the dining room overlooking Mount Fuji. If it is busy, leave time for a snack or shopping instead.

If you're shopping
Mount Fuji souvenirs and Self-Defense Forces goods

Browse Mount Fuji products, local goods, and shelves reflecting the Self-Defense Forces presence in Oyama Town. Sweets and shelf-stable items are easier to carry if you have a long journey home.

If you're heading out
Sengen Shrine or Lake Yamanaka

For a short history stop, visit Fuji Sengen Shrine; for a lakeside outing or hot spring, head toward Lake Yamanaka. In summer, check access restrictions for the Subashiri Fifth Station.

If you're traveling with a dog
Dog run and a break in the shade

The dog run is handy, but summer sun can be strong even at this elevation. Keep visits short and check the ground temperature and your dog's water supply.

Natsuki's detour notes

Rest your feet and reset before choosing your next foothill stop.

Natsuki Ichinose sees this station as more than a rest area near Subashiri IC. After a quick round of toilets, footbath, food, and shopping, use it to choose among Sengen Shrine, the Subashiri Fifth Station, Lake Yamanaka, and a hot spring. With children, avoid stretching the station visit too long: pause at the footbath, then choose a destination that fits the weather and time.

A footbath while Mount Fuji is in view makes the next drive feel a little easier.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Subashiri stands beside National Route 138 and the Subashiri IC of the Higashi-Fuji Five Lakes Road, at the entrance to the Fuji Azami Line toward Mount Fuji's Subashiri Fifth Station. A restaurant overlooking the mountain, FUJIYAMA BAZAAR, a free footbath, a water filling point, and a dog run make it a useful stop for deciding whether to head to the trailhead, continue to Lake Yamanaka, or visit Sengen Shrine. Families can regroup at the footbath and toilets. For a taste of Subashiri, try Fuji-san Gōriki Udon, a hearty local udon noodle dish, or a snack, then browse foothill souvenirs and Japan Self-Defense Forces themed goods.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Start with a footbath and a view at the foot of Mount Fuji

The close-up view of Mount Fuji and free footbath define this stop. The footbath closes in winter and its hours may change, so treat it as a welcome extra if it is open rather than the basis of your schedule.

02

A useful junction for Subashiri IC and National Route 138

Routes diverge here toward Gotemba, Lake Yamanaka, and Mount Fuji's Subashiri Fifth Station, making it a useful decision point on a long drive. Start with the parking area, toilets, and information corner, then eat or shop before moving on.

03

Shop for Oyama specialties and sample food from Mount Fuji's foothills

FUJIYAMA BAZAAR offers Mount Fuji goods, local products, and items reflecting Oyama's connection to the Self-Defense Forces. At the restaurant with a Fuji view, dishes such as Fuji-san Gōriki Udon make for a memorable meal.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 30–50 minute driving break

Regroup with the family after leaving Subashiri IC

After parking, make a short circuit of the toilets, footbath, and shop. Small goals such as the footbath or water filling point can help children reset, while adults can choose the next destination with Mount Fuji in view.

Parking → toilets → footbath or scenic break → FUJIYAMA BAZAAR → departure

The footbath has limited hours and closes in winter. When it is unavailable, keep to the shop and a scenic break.

A stop around lunchtime

Take a taste of Subashiri home after lunch and shopping

Consider Fuji-san Gōriki Udon at Fujiyama Shokudo, then look for Mount Fuji goods, Self-Defense Forces themed items, and local products. Browsing the shelves after eating gives a fuller sense of Oyama Town.

Toilets → restaurant → shop → water filling point or footbath → departure

At lunchtime on holidays, allow for a switch to snacks or souvenir shopping if the restaurant is crowded.

Before or after summer mountain visits and Kofuji hikes

Use the station as a base before the Subashiri Fifth Station

During the climbing season, private vehicles are restricted on the Fuji Azami Line, so the transfer parking area north of the roadside station and shuttle bus information matter for planning. Pick up drinks and snacks and use the toilets before leaving; after descending, return for the footbath or a meal.

Prepare at the station → transfer parking area or bus → Subashiri Fifth Station → rest at the station after descending

The announced 2026 private-vehicle restriction ran from July 1 to September 10. Check official fares, timetables, and road conditions shortly before a future visit.

A foothill drive in unpredictable weather

On rainy or chilly days, make a short stop and head for a hot spring

Cloud and wind can quickly change the feel of the foothills. If Mount Fuji is hidden, keep food and shopping at the station brief, then head to Yamanakako Onsen Benifuji no Yu for a relaxing family stop.

Eat and shop at the station → drive toward Lake Yamanaka → Benifuji no Yu

In winter, temperatures change with elevation. Check National Route 138 and nearby roads for ice, footbath closures, and the hot spring's closed days.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Best for a toilet break and a little shopping; adults can take turns using the footbath.

The station is easy to navigate for a break, but it is not an indoor play venue for a long stay. Check on-site information about nursing and diaper-changing facilities, and keep the stop manageable.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

Short turns at the footbath, water filling point, and shop can keep children engaged.

Show them Mount Fuji, warm just their feet, or let them choose one souvenir. Watch for moving cars in the parking area and avoid too many trips between indoors and outdoors.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

A meal, footbath, look at the dog run, and onward trip to Lake Yamanaka work well together.

Combine the station with Sengen Shrine, a hot spring, or the lakeshore rather than spending half a day here alone. On rainy days, make a short stop and then head for the hot spring.

Elementary school age
★★★★★

Connect Mount Fuji, its trailhead, and the World Heritage Sengen Shrine in one outing.

Adding the Subashiri Fifth Station, a Kofuji hike, or Fuji Sengen Shrine brings geography and history together. In the summer climbing season, buses, restrictions, and mountain entry rules can also become part of the trip's learning.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

In summer, access rules and buses matter most for the trailhead

Shizuoka Prefecture's Subashiri guide announced private-vehicle restrictions from July 1 to September 10, 2026, along with the transfer parking area north of the roadside station and shuttle bus service. In the summer climbing season, check restrictions and departure times before planning your shopping stop.

The water filling point and dog run add value to a short stop

Traveler accounts often mention the water filling point, footbath, and convenient parking. With a dog or on a brief stop, a little time outside as well as in the shop lets each passenger attend to different needs.

Elevation changes how you prepare for summer and winter

Traveler accounts describe pleasant summer conditions at this higher-elevation station but warn of winter cold and snow. If driving National Route 138 toward Lake Yamanaka, check the season and road surface, and be prepared to shorten your stop.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • To use the footbath, check its usual 10:00–17:00 hours and winter closure.
  • At lunchtime on holidays, leave room to switch from the restaurant to snacks, the shop, or the footbath.
  • For the Subashiri Fifth Station in summer, check private-vehicle restrictions and shuttle bus times first.
  • Mount Fuji views depend on the weather; if it is hidden, switch to Sengen Shrine or a hot spring.
  • In winter, check road conditions on National Route 138, toward Lake Yamanaka, and on the Fuji Azami Line.
  • With a dog, use the dog run briefly and check the sun, ground temperature, and water supply.
