Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Oribe no Sato Motosu is south of the Motosu Tunnel on National Route 157. It is a one-minute walk from Oribe Station on the Tarumi Railway and about a 10-minute drive from Motosu Interchange on the Tokai-Kanjo Expressway. It is named for Furuta Oribe, a warrior and tea master associated with Motosu; the Oribe Exhibition Hall and Sanmon Gallery are attached to the station building. The Yurara shop sells Fuyu persimmons, strawberries, Tokuyama chili peppers, Usuzumi maitake mushrooms and Oribe ware. The Wabian cafe and restaurant opens at 8:30 and serves a Japanese-style morning set. Parking accommodates 136 cars and 8 large vehicles, and toilets are available 24 hours, making this a convenient stop before or after visiting the Usuzumi Cherry Tree or the Neo Fault, or for a morning break along Route 157.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Furuta Oribe gives the station more than its name

The two-story Sanmon Gallery, the station’s landmark, stands beside the Oribe Exhibition Hall with its audio guide. From 10:00 to 16:00, visitors can explore Furuta Oribe’s history, Oribe ware and the tea ceremony. Seeing the pottery first may change how you choose a souvenir from the shop’s Oribe ware shelves.

02

Find Motosu’s harvest in one shop

Yurara carries Motosu’s Fuyu persimmons, Nohime and Mino Musume strawberry varieties, kiwifruit, kumquats, Tokuyama chili peppers and Usuzumi maitake mushrooms. There are also sweets inspired by the Usuzumi Cherry Tree in Neo, local sake and bread baked daily in the shop, so you can pick something for the drive and something to take home.

03

An early start makes breaks easier to plan

The produce shop, road information hall and cafe all open at 8:30. With parking for 136 cars and 8 large vehicles, 24-hour toilets, a free rest area, EV charging facilities and a postbox, the station makes a practical starting point for a morning drive north on Route 157.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A half-day drive north from Motosu

Stock up before heading toward the Usuzumi Cherry Tree and Neo

The Motosu City Tourism Association presents this station as a base for visiting the Usuzumi Cherry Tree and Neo Fault. Before driving north on Route 157, use the toilets, pick up provisions and shop at the produce market; that can save time looking for a shop around Neo. This is a place to stock up, rather than a fuel stop.

Motosu Interchange → Michi-no-Eki Oribe no Sato Motosu → National Route 157 toward Neo

Weather and road conditions affect travel times in the mountains. Hours also shorten in winter, so allow time for the return trip.

Days when you want an early start

Arrive early for breakfast and the produce shop

Wabian opens at 8:30, and its Japanese-style morning set is served until 11:00. The produce shop and road information hall also open at 8:30, so you can have breakfast, shop and gather information in one stop. These facilities can fill the time before the exhibition hall opens at 10:00.

Park → morning set at Wabian → Yurara shop → Oribe Exhibition Hall from 10:00

The morning set is served from opening until 11:00. At busy times, eating first can make the visit easier.

A short stop on the way through

Take home a local taste on a 30-minute break

If you cannot stay long, choose a Fuyu persimmon soft serve or one item from the shop. The parking area, toilets and shop are close together, so even a brief stop can feel worthwhile.

Park → toilets → fast-food counter → shop → depart

The fast-food counter is open 10:00–16:00. In the early morning or evening, switch to shopping at Yurara.

A train trip without driving

Take the Tarumi Railway and explore the station on foot

Oribe Station on the Tarumi Railway is just a one-minute walk away, making this roadside station accessible without a car. The exhibition hall, cafe and produce shop are grouped together, so you can spend the time between trains here.

Tarumi Railway Oribe Station → one-minute walk → station building, exhibition hall and shop

Trains are infrequent. Decide on your return train before planning how long to stay.

A drive with preschool children

Use the cafe as a base when visiting with children

The cafe dining area has a children’s play space with a cushioned floor and play equipment. It is for preschool children and younger. Children can play where the adults eat or rest, letting adults take a seated break too.

Park → Wabian cafe area (children’s play space) → shop → depart

Follow the on-site guidance for use and crowding. For more active play, add Motomaru Park or Monju no Mori to the outing.

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The Oribe Exhibition Hall audio guide changes how you see the pottery

Exhibits cover Furuta Oribe’s history and Oribe ware, while the audio guide also introduces the tea ceremony. Visiting first helps you choose Oribe ware in the shop by its shape and glaze, rather than only by first impression.

Focus on Fuyu persimmons and local specialties when shopping

Yurara carries Fuyu persimmons, Nohime and Mino Musume strawberries, kiwifruit, kumquats, Tokuyama chili peppers and Usuzumi maitake mushrooms. It also has sweets inspired by Neo’s Usuzumi Cherry Tree, local sake, Oribe ware and bread baked daily in the shop. Pick some for the drive and some for home.
