Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Start at the market to explore flavors from four municipalities

This station brings together products from the coast, mountains and countryside of Kuji City, Hirono Town, Noda Village and Fudai Village. Alongside fresh fish, processed seafood, vegetables, prepared foods and sweets, you will find Kuji amber and Marine Rose stone. Even a shopping stop gives you a sense of northern Sanriku.

02

Choose seafood, noodles or doughnuts for your meal

The food court has three options: Menya Maruho, Kita-Sanriku Nishiyama Shokudo and standonuts. Choose a full meal, a quick bite with children, or sweets and coffee. Having alternatives is useful at busy weekend lunchtimes.

03

Pause for play and rest before the coast or aquarium

There is an indoor kids' area, outdoor Ishitsubute Park, and rest facilities, toilets, a nursing room and diaper-changing space available around the clock. Near Kuji-kita IC, the station also has a gas station, making it a useful reset point on a long Sanriku drive.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A break along the Sanriku Coastal Road

Refuel and eat just after Kuji-kita IC

The station is just off the Sanriku Coastal Road, which runs much like an expressway. Take care of toilets, fuel and a meal in one stop. If pressed for time, choose Menya Maruho or standonuts; with more time, try seafood at Kita-Sanriku Nishiyama Shokudo.

Kuji-kita IC → park → toilets → food court → direct-sales market → gas station

Last orders differ among food-court outlets. In the evening, leave room to switch from a meal to shopping or sweets.

Families with preschool and elementary-school children

Let children play before exploring northern Sanriku

Use the indoor kids' area or outdoor Ishitsubute Park for a change of pace before or after eating. Keep playtime short enough to continue to Moguranpia or Kosode Coast and give the day another destination.

Park → indoor play equipment or Ishitsubute Park → lunch → direct-sales market → Moguranpia

Weather and crowds affect outdoor play. Watch for sun in summer, wind and ground conditions in winter, and favor indoor play on rainy days.

Shopping before the journey home

Choose northern Sanriku souvenirs in one stop

Compare fresh and processed seafood, prepared foods, sweets, vegetables, amber and Marine Rose stone before deciding what to take home. Even without a meal here, you can choose both chilled foods and shelf-stable souvenirs.

Retail and direct-sales market → fresh fish and processed products → Kuji amber and Marine Rose → standonuts

The selection of seafood and prepared foods changes through the day. Bring a cooler bag in summer or for a long trip home.

Nature stops at Kosode Coast and Tofugaura

Use the station as a base for seasonal coastal sights

Northern Sanriku's seasonal sights include Tsurigane Cave around the summer solstice, the northernmost ama divers from July to September, and sunrise or beach roses at Tofugaura. Eat and gather information at the station, then check coastal weather and timing before setting off.

Station → Kosode Coast or Tofugaura → return to the station or central Kuji

Wind, fog, waves and narrow roads change the coastal experience. Sunrise views and ama diving demonstrations depend on season and weather.

Choose indoor or outdoor play according to the weather; shorter meal breaks may work best.

The indoor kids' area helps on rainy or hot days. Outdoor Ishitsubute Park is fun too; keep children in sight when crowded and switch to a meal or sweets before they tire.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Its range of regional products matters as much as its newness

Official facility and municipal information presents the station as a hub for specialties from Kuji City, Hirono Town, Noda Village and Fudai Village. Visitor accounts also mention the breadth of seafood, processed products and local souvenirs. A lap of the market before choosing a meal helps reveal what makes this station distinctive.

Keep more than one lunch option at peak time

Posts on Tabelog and in travel accounts often focus on seafood rice bowls, Kohaku Salmon, ramen and doughnuts. At weekend lunchtime, consider noodles, seafood, doughnuts or prepared foods from the market so a wait at one outlet does not define the stop.

Children can switch between indoor and outdoor play

Official information lists the indoor kids' area and Ishitsubute Park. Visitor reviews mention children playing, the clean new facilities and crowding. Choose indoor play for rain or heat and outdoor play in good weather to help children reset before or after eating.

Allow extra time for parking and food on event days

The official homepage announced events including a summer festival from July 18 to August 9, 2026. The covered event plaza adds to the visit on event days, but activity at the food court and play areas can change. Plan a longer stay than a quick rest stop.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Retail and direct sales are typically 9:00–19:00, and the food court 10:30–18:30. Last orders differ by outlet; check official information for an evening visit.
  • Rest facilities, toilets, nursing room and diaper-changing space are listed as available 24 hours. At night, plan for a rest stop rather than shopping.
  • The gas station is typically open 8:00–19:00. Refuel here before a long stretch on the Sanriku Coastal Road.
  • A cooler bag is useful for seafood and prepared foods. In summer or on a long drive home, consider how long they will be in transit.
  • Outdoor play is appealing on clear days, but summer sun, winter wind and event crowds affect how long you may want to stay.
  • Kosode Coast changes greatly with season and weather. Plan sunrise views, ama diving demonstrations and coastal walks around the day's weather and road conditions.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Make seafood the main event

Have a quick noodle meal

Menya Maruho

Its menu centers on local farm, forest and fishery products and regional ingredients. It suits a warm meal during a long drive without lingering too long.

Take a sweets break

Take food home

Fresh fish, processed seafood, prepared foods and vegetables

Bring the direct-sales market's northern Sanriku products home for a later meal. On a long travel day, choose with cooling and your arrival time in mind.

Choose a lasting souvenir
