Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Eat and shop in one place before heading into Yanbaru

The specialty shop, Furusato-ichi market, Yui Cafe, restaurant and food court share one site. Even when you are hurrying toward northern sightseeing spots, you can use the restroom and pick up drinks, a snack and souvenirs in one stop.

02

Keep more than one meal option in mind

Restaurant Kuina lists seafood rice bowls, sushi, sashimi and dishes made with Okinawan pork. Food-court choices include Okinawa soba (wheat noodles in broth), sata andagi (Okinawan fried doughnuts), fish dishes, spice curry and burgers. Some outlets focus on lunchtime or depend on the day's supply, so having a couple of options makes the stop easier.

03

Take a short break with children here, then play farther afield

The station has play equipment, a kids' space and a photo spot. They suit a stretch while someone shops or uses the restroom; for a longer outing, continue to the Okuma coast or Kunigami Village Forest Park.

04

Event days bring more of village life together

When the roadside station hosts events such as the Kunigami Village Industry Festival, produce, food, stage performances and activities come together. If you plan to visit on an event day, allow extra time for parking and meals.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A stop on a long drive

A practical break before Cape Hedo and northern Kunigami

Driving north on National Route 58 from the Kyoda Interchange area, you can take care of restrooms, drinks, snacks and tourist information here. If you will keep driving north afterward, agree on meal choices with your companions before setting off again.

Head north on National Route 58 → Yuiyui Kunigami → Cape Hedo and Daisekirinzan area.

In the evening, some outlets close earlier than others. Finish eating and shopping before the drive on northern roads after dark.

A day to enjoy food and shopping

Make lunch and shopping the main event

Compare seafood, Okinawan pork, Okinawa soba, sata andagi, sweets and farm-fresh vegetables. Instead of committing to one eatery, let companions choose separately from the food-court-style options.

Park → specialty shop → restaurant or food court → Yui Cafe → Furusato-ichi.

Fish and some dishes change with deliveries and sellouts. Keep several options in mind, especially if you have a particular dish in mind.

Families with preschoolers or elementary school children

Move from a station break to outdoor play with children

The station's play equipment and kids' space suit a pause while shopping or using the restroom. For longer play, have lunch at the station, then head to the Okuma coast, Kunigami Village Forest Park or Yanbaru Forest Toy Museum. This gives adults shopping time and children time to play.

Yuiyui Kunigami → Okuma or Kunigami Village Forest Park.

In summer sun or rain, keep time on outdoor play equipment and at the coast short; an indoor wooden-toy facility is another option.

Industry festival, fair or stage event days

Visit village food stalls and activities on an event day

The Kunigami Village Industry Festival is advertised as bringing produce, food, activities and performances to the roadside station. It adds a village event to the usual market and eateries.

Check official announcements → arrive toward the morning → enjoy food and stalls → explore nearby.

Do not plan around an event whose dates have passed. Check the official website, Instagram and Kunigami Village's event notices for the day you intend to visit.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Best for a restroom stop, drinks and a little shopping rather than nursing or a long stay.

It is convenient to move quickly indoors from the parking area, though lunchtime peaks and events bring more people through.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

A short spell on the play equipment or in the kids' space can help children through a shopping stop.

For longer play, plan to continue to the Okuma coast or forest park; keep the station break brief.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Photo spots, play equipment, sweets and Okinawa soba make it easy to string together small pleasures.

On hot days, keep outdoor play short and head back to Yui Cafe or indoor shopping.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Pair the station with Yanbaru Forest Toy Museum, Hiji Falls or Yanbaru Learning Forest for learning and outdoor play.

Before heading to the falls or forest, sort out shoes, drinks, insect repellent and a weather check at the station.
