Haruka's stopover notes

This is a station for buying meat and shochu, and it is even easier to use when you plan your parking and restroom stop first.

Haruka Ichinose sees NiQLL both as a shopping destination and as a place to reset during a drive. Its 198 standard-car parking spaces, family restrooms, nursing room, and 24-hour rest and information facility help families and long-distance travelers take a breather. Even outside your preferred dining hours, you can turn to the direct sales shop, themed cafes, or tourist information.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Miyakonojo NiQLL is a large roadside station on National Route 10, about five minutes by car from the Miyakonojo Interchange. Its direct sales shop offers Miyakonojo meat, shochu (a Japanese distilled spirit), fresh produce, and traditional crafts. A restaurant and four themed cafes cover everything from lunch to sweets. An indoor wooden play area, family restrooms, a nursing room, and a covered event plaza make it a useful family stop on rainy or hot days.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Discover Miyakonojo through its meat and shochu counters

Start at the direct sales shop with beef, pork, and chicken, local vegetables, and shochu from Miyakonojo's four distilleries. NiQLL lets you shop for dinner or gifts as well as conventional travel sweets.

02

The four cafes give you options beyond the restaurant

With cafes themed around meat, shochu, fruit, and sweet potatoes, companions can choose lunch, sweets, or a light break to suit their appetites. At busy times, visiting a cafe or the direct sales shop instead of waiting only for the restaurant can keep your plans flexible.

03

The indoor wooden play area offers families a break from rain and heat

The indoor play area uses locally sourced wood and has a picture-book corner, family restrooms, and a nursing room nearby. Designed for children through third grade of elementary school, it gives toddlers and younger schoolchildren a change of pace during a long drive.

04

Near the interchange, with easy onward trips to Sekinoo Falls and Kirishima

The station is close to Miyakonojo IC and also houses a tourism association. After eating, using the restrooms, and shopping, add Sekinoo Falls, the Miyakonojo Shimazu Residence, Snow Peak MIYAKONOJO Campfield, or Takachiho Farm for a half-day or full-day outing.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short break on National Route 10

Take home Miyakonojo meat and shochu in 30 minutes

After parking, use the restroom first, then browse the direct sales shop for meat, shochu, vegetables, and fruit. If buying chilled goods, stop at the end of your return trip; if sightseeing first, focus on shochu and shelf-stable gifts.

Parking → Restroom → Direct sales shop → Tourist information → Depart

The parking is for roadside-station visitors. Keep your stop focused rather than treating it as a long-stay lot.

Families and groups around lunchtime

Make NiQLL your lunch stop and give companions a choice

Someone may want a full meat dish, another only sweets, and others may want to explore the shochu, sweet-potato, or fruit themes. They can all find an option at the station. Around the lunch rush, leave room to browse the cafes and sales floor instead of planning only around a restaurant table.

Restaurant options → Cafe court → Direct sales shop → Indoor wooden play area

Restaurant lunch and dinner hours and cafe offerings vary by business. If arriving late, do not rely on a single dining option.

Families with toddlers and younger elementary-school children

On rainy or very hot days, start with indoor play

The indoor wooden play area brings slides, a picture-book corner, family restrooms, and a nursing room close together. If your visit crosses a cleaning period, switch to shopping or a cafe break first so the children have another activity.

Restroom → Indoor wooden play area → Cafe → Direct sales shop

Children through third grade of elementary school must be accompanied by a guardian. Plan around cleaning and disinfection at 11:00 and 15:00.

A day with one nature stop

Get ready before going on to Sekinoo Falls or Snow Peak

Use the station for restrooms, drinks, snacks, and tourist information before heading toward Sekinoo Falls, so you can focus on walking around the falls or spending time at the campfield. In summer, consider water; after rain, footing; and with children, walking distance. Leave time to adjust your route at the station.

NiQLL → Sekinoo Falls → Snow Peak MIYAKONOJO Campfield

Road closures and parking information around Sekinoo may change. Check the tourism association's latest notices when visiting the nature sites.

A drive combining a farm, hot springs, or an airport

Use it as a food stop before or after Kirishima and Takachiho Farm

Before visiting Takachiho Farm, keep your meal and shopping at NiQLL light, then enjoy outdoor activities and dairy products at the farm. On the return journey, buy meat and shochu last to make chilled items easier to handle.

NiQLL → Takachiho Farm, or Takachiho Farm → NiQLL

The farm may close on irregular days or hold events. Weather affects conditions around Kirishima, so leave flexibility in your outdoor schedule.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

A spacious, recently built station that inspires confidence for shopping and restroom breaks

Visitor accounts often mention the newness of the building and restrooms, the large parking area, and the range of souvenirs. The layout is easy to understand on a first visit, making even a short stop practical.

Meat, shochu, bento, and produce make it easy to finish souvenir shopping here

Reviews and travel features often highlight the range of meat, shochu, boxed meals, and local specialties. You can shop with a meal at home in mind, making this a useful final stop after sightseeing.

Do not rely on one dining choice at lunchtime or on event days

As a large station with an event plaza, NiQLL may see more visitors on weekends and during events. Moving between the restaurant, cafes, sales floor, and indoor play can make waiting time part of the visit.

Event information changes quickly on the official site and Instagram

New notices for the morning market, smoking classes, soba-making, summer workshops, and food-truck applications appear on the official site and Instagram. Check recent posts especially when visiting on a weekend or during a long holiday.
