Tanourara is a roadside station along the Beppu–Oita road in Oita City. Its roof evokes Beppu Bay and Mount Takasaki, and the building has retail and dining areas and a history and culture corner. A tram that once ran nearby is on permanent display, giving travelers along the coast a place to eat and encounter local history.
Reasons to stop here
Dine on Oita specialties and seafood
The second-floor dining area offers dishes such as toriten (Oita-style chicken tempura), dango-jiru (a soup with thick flour dumplings), and seafood rice bowls. A morning menu is offered from 9:00 to 11:00, followed by the regular menu from 11:00 to 21:00; last orders are at 20:30.

The history and culture corner features a tram display, and the station also has Oto no Kikoeru Hiroba (おとの聴こえる広場, “Sound-Listening Square”). On the first floor, Imoya Kinpu (芋屋金風) sells imokenpi (crisp sweet-potato sticks) and seasonal sweets, offering a short break apart from a meal.
