Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Nishiki is a roadside station in Nishiki Town with a farmers’ market called Kurando-ichi (くらんど市). In this fruit-growing area, you can choose from peaches, pears, melons, grapes and other produce as they arrive in season. You can combine shopping with a walk in the adjacent Kurando Park (くらんど公園).

    Why I like it

    Reasons to stop here

    01

    Seasonal fruit and changing varieties

Kurando-ichi says that several growers deliver peaches and pears in succession, starting with early-ripening varieties. The same fruit is not available year-round; part of the appeal is choosing from the varieties and deliveries on the market floor that day.

    02

A break for prepared foods and the park

The market carries local foods such as horumon (offal dishes), pig’s feet and manju (filled buns). Hanagokoro (花ごころ) sells soft-serve ice cream and drinks. Adjacent Kurando Park has lawns and a children’s play area where you can walk before or after shopping.
