Toru Hozumi's detour notes

Even deciding what to eat after you park is part of the fun here.

At Michi-no-Eki Kamimine, it pays to walk around the market and choose what appeals on the day, instead of arriving set on one specialty. Start with parking and the toilets, then browse the produce market, butcher, prepared foods, food court, and sweets. Whether you eat lunch, shop for home, or continue to the hot spring, the stop fits easily into a drive along Route 34.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Kamimine opened in April 2025 as the first phase of Kamimine Town's Kazemachi town center project and Saga Prefecture's 11th roadside station. On Route 34 and convenient to Higashisefuri Interchange, it has 149 free parking spaces, toilets open 24 hours, wide aisles, a nursing room, and children's toilets. Its main draw is a broad market where you can browse freshly picked vegetables, meat, tofu, prepared foods, Saga sweets, food court meals, and fruit desserts in one visit. For a quick stop, use the toilets and browse the market; at lunchtime, choose from seafood, meat dishes, bread, and sweets. With more time, add Yoshinogari Onsen within walking distance or Yoshinogari Historical Park a short drive away and turn a rest stop into a half-day outing.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Start your Kamimine visit at the morning produce stalls

Vegetables, fruit, rice, meat, tofu, and prepared foods from Kamimine and nearby areas come together in one large market. A visitor account describes shoppers arriving for freshly picked vegetables soon after opening. If shopping is your priority, browse the produce before eating to see what is available that day.

02

For a meal, explore the food court and specialty shops before choosing

Official and tourism information highlights seafood rice bowls, meat set meals, fried shrimp, and Shin-SUN fruit desserts. At lunchtime, consider prepared foods, boxed meals, bread, and sweets as well as the food court, especially when companions want different things.

03

Wide aisles and facilities make a stop easier

Saga Style describes the wide aisles and accessible facilities as easy to navigate with strollers and wheelchairs. The 149 free parking spaces, 24-hour toilets, children's toilets, and nursing room make this a practical stop on Route 34.

04

Add a hot spring and Yoshinogari for a half-day drive

Yoshinogari Onsen Himiko no Yu is within walking distance; Yoshinogari Historical Park is a short drive away, while Mount Chinzei and the Tomb of Prince Tsukimeka are in town. Choose shopping, lunch, bathing, or a history walk to shape the rest of your day.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Travel between Saga City, Tosu, and Kurume

Combine a Route 34 lunch break with shopping

After parking, use the toilets, browse vegetables, rice, meat, and prepared foods at the market, then head to the food court. Pick up Shin-SUN sweets or bread after lunch to make the stop more than just a meal.

Route 34 → parking → toilets → farmers' market → food court → local products and sweets.

Meals and popular products may be especially busy at lunchtime on holidays. Keep prepared foods and sweets in mind if your first choice is crowded.

Adult travelers, rainy days, and the journey home

Finish with a bath at Himiko no Yu

Add nearby Yoshinogari Onsen Himiko no Yu to follow food and shopping at the roadside station with bathing and a rest. It also makes an easy plan in bad weather or when you do not want a long sightseeing walk.

Michi-no-Eki Kamimine → Yoshinogari Onsen Himiko no Yu → return to Route 34.

The hot spring may close irregularly or change its last admission time. Check its official notice on the day if bathing is your goal.

Families with children and visitors driving from outside Saga

Make it a half-day trip with Yoshinogari Historical Park

Have lunch and shop at the roadside station before going to Yoshinogari Historical Park to save time looking for a place to eat. If you visit the park first, stop on the way back for sweets, prepared foods, and the toilets.

Higashisefuri Interchange and Route 34 → Michi-no-Eki Kamimine → Yoshinogari Historical Park.

The historical park involves considerable walking outdoors. In summer heat or rain, and as closing time approaches, allow less time at the roadside station.

Days when you want a little local history

Explore Kamimine's past at Mount Chinzei and the Tomb of Prince Tsukimeka

The market is enjoyable on its own, but Mount Chinzei, associated with Minamoto no Tametomo, and the Tomb of Prince Tsukimeka, described as Saga Prefecture's only Imperial Household Agency mausoleum, offer short detours into Kamimine's past.

Roadside station → Tomb of Prince Tsukimeka and Kofun Park → Mount Chinzei Observatory.

The cherry blossoms and views from Mount Chinzei depend on the weather. Check each year's official notices for dated events such as illuminated evening blossoms.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Fresh produce draws shoppers just after opening

A visitor account describes freshly picked vegetables selling and being restocked soon after opening. If you came to shop, browse the produce stalls on arrival instead of waiting until after lunch.

The food court can get busy at holiday lunchtimes

Reviews and restaurant listings describe the food court as nearly full around lunchtime and waits for popular dishes. Keep boxed meals, prepared foods, bread, and sweets in mind rather than relying on one stall.

Wide aisles help visitors with strollers and wheelchairs

Saga Style and a visitor blog praise the wide aisles and the cleanliness of the new facility. With children or older companions, avoiding peak hours and keeping shopping and toilet stops brief may help.

A nearby hot spring works well on rainy days

Yoshinogari Onsen Himiko no Yu is close to the station and offers bathing, a dining area, and space to rest. In rain or summer heat, pairing the station with the hot spring is a practical alternative to outdoor sightseeing.
