A taste of the hot springs
From the hand and footbaths to the hot spring town

For a brief stop, try the free hand and footbaths, where you soak your hands or feet. With more time, continue to Siebold no Yu public bath or the hot spring town.

Toru's suggested detour

Take care of the children first, then explore tea and hot springs

Families may find it easier to use the toilets, nursing room, square, and rest area before seeking a restaurant or shop. Then add one stop for tea souvenirs, sweets, the footbath, or the hot spring town: an easy way to take a little of Ureshino home.

1

Get settled first

Checking parking, toilets, the nursing room, and the grassy square first can ease small frustrations during the journey.

2

Enjoy a short taste

Ureshino tea, local sweets, milk-based treats, and the footbath can give even a 30-minute visit a taste of Ureshino.

3

Explore beyond the station

With more time, continue to the hot spring town, ninja village, or Chaoshiru. The station makes a convenient starting point for a half-day trip.

Highlights

Michi no Eki Ureshino Maruku stands directly opposite Ureshino-Onsen Station on the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen, serving as a gateway to the hot spring town. Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Where the Shinkansen station meets National Route 34

The roadside station is in front of Ureshino-Onsen Station's west exit and about five minutes by car from Ureshino IC. You can rest during a drive, meet someone at the rail station, or gather information before heading into the hot spring town, all in one place.

02

Take care of young children's needs first

There is a 24-hour information rest facility, toilets, and a diaper vending machine; the nursing room is listed for daytime use. The grassy square offers a change of pace for families on a long journey.

03

Take home a taste of the town's hot springs and tea, even on a short visit

There are hand and footbaths supplied directly by the hot spring source, Ureshino tea and local sweets for sale, and nearby cafes and the hot spring town. Extend a station stop to tea, sweets, or a daytime bath.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

While driving National Route 34

A 15-minute break on a family drive

After parking, take care of the toilets and diaper needs first, then head to the grassy square if children want to move. Adults can browse tourist brochures and tea souvenirs at Maruku Eyes, finding a little of Ureshino even on a short break.

Parking → information rest facility → toilets → grassy square → Maruku Eyes

The nursing room is generally available 9:00-17:00. At night, plan mainly for toilets and rest.

A detour around lunchtime

A sweet stop near the station before the hot spring town

Choose a milk-based drink or soft serve ice cream at UPLIFT SHIMOJYUKU, then enjoy the hand and footbaths before heading into the hot spring town. For a meal, look beyond the station-front area toward Siebold no Yu for more choices.

Maruku Eyes → UPLIFT SHIMOJYUKU → hand and footbaths → Ureshino hot spring town

Maruku Kitchen ended its operations before renovation on April 27, 2026, with reopening planned. Have nearby meal options in mind.

With preschool children or on days with uncertain weather

On rainy days, focus on indoor rest and tea souvenirs

When the park is hard to use, combine tourist information, souvenirs, and a short rest at Maruku Eyes. The footbath is exposed to outdoor conditions, so in strong rain, wind, or heat, switch to Chaoshiru or an indoor destination in the hot spring town.

Toilets → Maruku Eyes → tea souvenirs → Chaoshiru or the hot spring town

The hand and footbaths may operate with cool spring water in summer or have other seasonal adjustments. Check the day's notices.

A half-day outing

For school-age children, add a ninja village or tea experience

After toilets and a little shopping at the roadside station, choose Hizen Yumekaidou for active play or Chaoshiru to learn about tea. Using the station as a meeting and rest point makes it easier to rearrange play, food, and hot springs.

Roadside station → Hizen Yumekaidou or Chaoshiru → meal and bath in the hot spring town

Tuesday is the usual closed day for Hizen Yumekaidou and Chaoshiru. Holidays and special periods can change this, so follow each destination's official information.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★★☆

Best for a short break using the toilets, nursing room, and diaper vending machine first.

The nursing room is generally available 9:00-17:00 and the information rest facility around the clock. Do not count on the nursing room late at night or early in the morning.

Ages 2-3
★★★★☆

The grassy square gives children space to move a little. On rainy days, switch to an indoor break.

This is not a place for long play on large playground equipment; short stops for the toilets, square, and a sweet treat may work better.

Ages 4-6
★★★★☆

The park, footbath, and soft serve ice cream make easy goals for a stop.

Keep the footbath visit short according to crowds and heat. Bring water and a towel.

School-age children
★★★★★

Good for a half-day trip combining the station with the ninja village, a tea experience, or the hot spring town.

Combine Hizen Yumekaidou or Chaoshiru with the station for both play and a taste of the area instead of spending all your time at the station.

Find tourist and event information, luggage storage, bicycle rental, and tea souvenirs together.

Hand and footbaths

A quick way to experience this hot spring town. In summer, operations may change seasonally, including the use of cool spring water.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Use the roadside station as a hot spring tourism hub in front of the rail station

The official and tourism sites present Ureshino-Onsen Station, tourist information, hand and footbaths, park, and nearby shops as one area. Treat it as a place to plan the next part of your journey, rather than expecting only a conventional produce market.

Look to adjacent shops and the hot spring town for meals

Maruku Kitchen announced that its operations before renovation ended on April 27, 2026. UPLIFT SHIMOJYUKU and restaurants in the hot spring town are nearby, making sweets and souvenirs at the station and meals in the surrounding area a practical plan.

Event days transform the station-front area

Official notices list an Ureshino Onsen Summer Festival venue on August 11, 2026, as well as markets and vendor recruitment. Plan parking, food, and use of the square differently on event days.

Check seasonal operation of the footbath and handbath

The footbath and handbath are generally open 8:00-23:00, but a notice announced cool spring water in summer 2026 to address the heat. Check the day's operation and keep your visit short during midsummer or severe weather.

Plan outdoor time when visiting with a dog

An official notice dated July 17, 2026 asks visitors not to bring pets inside the Maruku Eyes tourist exchange facility, while outdoor walks are permitted. With a dog, plan an outdoor break, follow etiquette around the footbath, and take precautions against heat.

Before your visit

  • Since September 28, 2026, the official site has reported a problem with the roadside station's phone. Until a restoration notice appears, it directs inquiries to the official site's contact form or its official Instagram direct messages.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

A quick sweet treat

MILKBREW COFFEE

At the adjacent multipurpose complex, drinks or soft serve ice cream can give children a short break.

It is generally closed on the second and fourth Tuesdays.

Buy something to take home

Ureshino tea, local sweets, and souvenirs from the surrounding area

At Maruku Eyes you can shop alongside getting tourist information, even during a short stop before or after visiting the hot spring town.

On event days

Food stalls at the station-front event venue

Stalls take center stage during the Aozora open-air market and summer festival. Keep meal times flexible and choose a snack according to the crowds.

A full lunch

Restaurants in the Ureshino hot spring town

A drive of a few minutes into the hot spring town offers more lunch choices than eating only at the station.
