How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

With children
From the toilets to the seaside park

Try the children's play area, lawns and boardwalk first; it can make the wait for food easier.

For a meal
mana*mana or Masala

For an early stop on weekends and public holidays, try mana*mana (it opens at 11:00 on weekdays). Masala is another choice for a substantial meal, with snack options too.

For shopping
Yasuragi-ichi and the souvenir shops

Browse vegetables, fruit, imo kenpi and seafood products, and choose something to eat by the sea.

On a sunny day
Take a short boardwalk stroll

Even outside swimming season, looking at the sea and stretching your legs makes this feel like a worthwhile detour.

On a busy day
Choose one main purpose

On swimming and event days, plan parking separately from the lunch rush.

If you have extra time
Tei Port movable bridge

This seaside landmark is roughly within walking distance. Vehicle passage is limited to set times, so treat a bridge sighting as a bonus.

Kasumi's detour notes

Let the children outside first, then choose what to eat.

Kasumi Yoshimi sees Yasu as more than a roadside station with a sea view; she plans it in a family-friendly order. First the toilets, then the children's play area or boardwalk to stretch, and finally a return for food and shopping. In rain or intense heat, switch to mana*mana, Masala, the local information center or the Akaoka area. Seaside fun and everyday convenience sit close together here, so leave room in the plan to enjoy both.

Highlights

Michi no Eki Yasu is a seaside rest stop beside National Route 55 and Yasu Station on the Gomen-Nahari Line. There are vegetables and fruit at Yasuragi-ichi, souvenir shops and places to eat such as mana*mana and Masala. Next door, Yasea Park offers lawns, a boardwalk, a children's play area and, during swimming season, showers and changing rooms. It works for a quick toilet stop, a half-day break to let children play outside, or a rainy-day visit focused on food and shopping.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A seaside park next door turns a rest stop into outdoor play

Yasea Park has lawns, a children's play area, a roughly 530 m boardwalk, picnic sites and a swimming beach. When children are tired of a long drive, you can take them out into the sea breeze instead of ending the stop at the shops.

02

Plenty of food and shopping choices for differing family tastes

Yasuragi-ichi, souvenir shops, takoyaki (octopus balls), ice cream, Vegifrutta, mana*mana, Cafe Pleasure, Masala and Kamimachi Ikezawa Honten offer choices from snacks and full meals to takeaway. Even if you miss lunch, you can browse vegetables, fruit and imo kenpi (crisp sweet potato sticks), or pick up something light to eat by the sea.

03

Plan parking and your route on swimming and event days

Summer swimming, the Marine Festival, the Tei Bon dance, the autumn festival and seaside illuminations can bring different crowds from an ordinary day. Decide whether you want a short stop by the station or a longer visit using the park's paid parking lot.

04

Add the Tei Port movable bridge for another Konan seaside memory

Near the station, the Tei Port movable bridge takes about six minutes to open or close. A seaside walk, produce shopping and a meal are plenty on their own, but if you have time, the bridge and Akaoka area add a sense of Konan City's history and town life.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short break on National Route 55

Get some sea air in 30 minutes

Use the toilet first, then browse one item at Yasuragi-ichi or a souvenir shop. If it is fine, step onto the boardwalk for a few minutes before returning to the car.

Parking → toilets → produce and souvenirs → boardwalk → departure

Parking is less predictable on swimming and event days. If time is short, a meal or quick shopping stop may be enough.

A family drive around lunchtime

Let young children play before deciding on food

Before choosing a meal, let children move around the play area or lawn. Keep it brief in hot weather; in rain or strong wind, shift toward indoor dining, the local information area and shopping.

Toilets → children's play area and lawn → mana*mana or a snack → Yasuragi-ichi

Sun and wind affect the seafront. In summer, plan water, hats, a change of clothes, and the opening times for showers and lockers.

Seaside play from mid-July to late August

Treat a swimming day as a park visit

During swimming season, plan around the hours when lifeguards, beach rentals, changing rooms, showers and lockers are available. Use the roadside station as a base for lunch, drinks and supplies, and allow for the park's paid parking.

Paid parking → beach house → swimming → food and shopping → rest

The 2026 swimming season was scheduled for July 18 to August 23. For a future visit, check official notices for dates, weather, whether swimming is permitted and parking charges.

Days when outdoor play needs to be short

Focus on food and local culture when it rains

If a long seaside walk is out, focus on mana*mana, Cafe Pleasure, Masala, souvenir shops, the local information center and Gallery 84. If you can go farther, Ekingura in Akaoka adds an indoor look at Konan's culture.

Meal → souvenir shop → local information center → drive toward Akaoka

Shops have different closing days, including Wednesday, Monday and Tuesday. Keep more than one dining option in mind.

Adults or families with primary school children and older

Connect Konan's sea and history in a short outing

Shop and use the toilet at the roadside station, then head to the Tei Port movable bridge. Watch it open or close if timing works; otherwise, enjoy the port-town atmosphere and return. If you have time, drive on to Ekingura in Akaoka.

Roadside station → Tei Port movable bridge → Akaoka and Ekingura

The bridge has set vehicle-passage times. Make it part of a seaside walk rather than planning the whole outing around seeing it move.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Good for toilets, quick shopping and a brief change of scene by the sea.

The multipurpose toilet and beach-house facilities help, but the seafront can be sunny and windy. Short outings with a child in your arms may work better than a long stay outside.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The children's play area and lawn make it easy to add a short play break.

Moving about before a meal can ease the wait. For the sandpit or seafront, allow time for a change of clothes and foot washing or showers.

Ages 4–6
★★★★★

Choose among play equipment, lawn, boardwalk and swimming.

Sunny days offer plenty of outdoor play. In hot weather, plan for supervised swimming hours, the beach house and paid parking together.

Primary school children
★★★★★

Expand the day with swimming, the movable bridge, cycling or Akaoka's culture.

Along with the sea, options include the Tei Port movable bridge, rental bicycles and Noichi Zoological Park. Add one that suits the weather and your energy for a half-day outing.

Use the toilet first

Check the station and beach-house facilities before going out to play so it is easy to return.

Bring a change of clothes and coins in summer

Showers, lockers, rentals and paid parking mean more on-site payments during swimming season.

Switch to food and indoor stops on rainy days

Eat and shop at the roadside station, then consider an indoor stop such as Ekingura in Akaoka.

Keep seaside outings short

Strong wind, heat and limited shade change how it feels outside; with smaller children, leave time to return to the car.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Yasea Park swimming beach

The beach generally opens from mid-July to late August. Lifeguards, showers, lockers and rentals, and their operating hours, affect how easy a family visit is.

Lawn area

A likely venue for the Marine Festival, food events and autumn festivals. On event days, consider parking and meal rushes separately.

Children's play area

A sandpit and play equipment help children change pace before or after a meal. Brief visits are more practical in midsummer.

Boardwalk

Even outside swimming season, a seafront walk can make a rest stop feel like part of the trip. Keep it short on windy days.

Local information center and Gallery 84

These offer a break from rain or heat. Small exhibitions and local information can help you choose your next stop.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Parking plans differ for swimming and a short roadside stop

Visitor patterns suggest it is easier to separate a quick shopping stop by the station from a beach or event visit using Yasea Park's paid parking. Summer prices and crowds differ from normal days.

On sunny seaside days, manage heat and wind

Summer swimming brings more to do, but check sun exposure, changing, showers, lockers, rentals and whether swimming is allowed. A boardwalk stroll can still make a short stop on a day without swimming.

Yasu Station's direct access also makes rail and cycling possible

The roadside station is right by Yasu Station on the Gomen-Nahari Line, so it can be reached without a car. Rental bicycles at the local information area can extend a visit along the coast and toward Tei Port.

Winter illuminations change the feel of an evening visit

Some years bring seaside illuminations in December. Check each year's notice for dates, lighting times, parking and severe-weather arrangements.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • The roadside station's overall hours are approximately 8:00–21:00, but individual shops differ considerably. For a meal, keep at least two options in mind.
  • During summer swimming season, check paid parking, showers, lockers, beach rentals and lifeguard hours together.
  • For a full Yasea Park visit, plan for park use rather than a brief roadside stop.
  • The seafront can be windy even in sunshine. With toddlers, allow for a shorter boardwalk walk.
  • Vehicle-passage times at the Tei Port movable bridge can change without notice. If seeing it is your goal, check Konan City or tourism association guidance.
  • Rental bicycles are limited in number. Ask early at the local information area if you need a child's bicycle or one with a child seat.
  • Public transport may be recommended on event days. Direct access from Yasu Station can help you avoid a parking wait.
