Kasumi's detour note

Pick one thing to eat, then continue a little farther toward the water.

Kasumi Yakumo sees Tosa Sameura both as a place to eat Tosa Akaushi and as a place to prepare for a lake trip. Rest at the parking area, toilets, showers and outdoor seating, then browse yuzu products, Keigetsu sake and woodcraft. If time permits, try a beef skewer or BBQ and continue to Sameura Dam or the lake town. At this compact station, choosing your next stop keeps the trip relaxed.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Tosa Sameura stands on National Route 439 in Tosa Town. It brings together Tosa Akaushi beef, local products, woodcraft, coin-operated showers and visitor information. For a short stop, browse processed beef, yuzu citrus products and Keigetsu sake in the products hall. Around lunchtime, try Restaurant Yosaku, beef skewers when sold on weekends and holidays, or the BBQ terrace if you have a reservation. With more time, continue to Sameura Dam or Mizuumi-no-Eki Sameura Lake Town for a taste of Tosa Town's forests and waterside.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Choose Tosa Akaushi at the restaurant, as skewers, at a BBQ or to take home

This is a good place to experience the home of Tosa Akaushi, a local breed of Japanese beef. Match your meal to your time: beef bowls and handmade croquettes at Restaurant Yosaku; beef skewers often sold on weekends and public holidays from March through November; a reservation-only BBQ terrace; or frozen hamburg steaks and fresh beef to take away.

02

A compact products hall full of Tosa Town flavors and woodcraft

Browse local vegetables, yuzu products, local honey, dried foods, Keigetsu sake, processed Tosa Akaushi products and woodcraft by Sameura Kobo. This is a small stop: park, use the toilet, browse the hall and outdoor rest area, then decide where to go next.

03

Showers and bicycle parking make this a useful stop for lake, cycling and Route 439 trips

Alongside parking and toilets are coin-operated showers, bicycle parking and an outdoor rest area. They are useful for freshening up and checking your gear and route during a cycling trip, dam visit or long drive on National Route 439.

04

Extend your trip to Sameura Dam, the lake town or a gorge

Add Sameura Dam, Sameura Canoe Terrace, Keigetsukan or Setogawa Gorge to see more of Tosa Town. Choose the lake on a clear day, the products hall and Keigetsukan in rain or with little time, and autumn foliage and events in fall.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short break on National Route 439

Find Tosa Town flavors in 30 minutes

After parking, use the toilet, then browse processed Tosa Akaushi products, yuzu products, local honey and Keigetsu sake in the hall. Even without a full meal, choose a frozen hamburg steak, croquette or dried food to take away.

Parking → toilets → products hall → outdoor rest area

If buying frozen food or sake, plan how to keep it cool and who will drive.

A stop for a meal

Make Tosa Akaushi the focus around lunchtime

When Restaurant Yosaku is open, try its beef bowl or croquettes. Choose beef skewers if they are being sold on a weekend or holiday, or the BBQ terrace if you have booked. On Tuesdays or busy days, leave time to switch to takeaway food from the hall or a nearby cafe.

Station → Restaurant Yosaku or beef skewers → hall → Sameura Dam

BBQ requires a reservation, skewers depend on season and day, and the restaurant has closing days. Check current information if your trip depends on a meal here.

Families, visitors with dogs and waterside activities

Continue to Mizuumi-no-Eki Sameura Lake Town

After using the toilet and shopping at the station, drive a few minutes to Sameura Canoe Terrace. Its cafe, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), rental bicycles and connections to hotel and camping facilities make the station a useful lunch and supply stop on a clear day.

Station → Sameura Canoe Terrace → Lake Sameura shore

Weather, opening days and reservation slots shape waterside activities. With small children, simply resting with a lake view may be enough.

A short walk and local culture

Walk to Keigetsukan nearby

For a day without much more driving, walk from the station to Keigetsukan at Tosa Brewery. Exhibits connected to writer Omachi Keigetsu and a chance to shop for local sake add another side of Tosa Town to your visit.

Station → Keigetsukan → products hall for Keigetsu sake and souvenirs

Check the brewery and museum's current hours and tasting arrangements; drivers should follow the day's guidance on alcohol.

A half-day drive

Make autumn foliage and Setogawa Gorge a longer outing

In foliage season, eat and use the toilet at the station before heading for Setogawa Gorge and Amegaeri Falls. They are some distance away, so this suits a day for exploring Tosa Town's mountains and water.

Station → Sameura Dam → Setogawa Gorge and Amegaeri Falls

Mountain roads, weather, road surfaces and sunset affect this route. With children or in rain, consider the shorter lake town or Keigetsukan outing.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 or younger
★★★☆☆

Useful for toilets, brief shopping and a covered rest.

Think of this as a short break after feeding or changing a baby, rather than a play area with large equipment. Check facilities on the lake town side if staying longer.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Works for a short stop with food and an outdoor rest.

A croquette or juice and a seat in the outdoor rest area may work better than a long browse through the hall. Hold hands near the roadside.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

BBQ or the lake town adds more to do.

The station alone makes a short stop. Add a booked BBQ or a visit to the waterfront at Sameura Canoe Terrace to eat, look around and move a little.

Elementary school children
★★★★☆

The dam, lake, woodcraft and gorge offer things to learn.

Combine Sameura Dam, the lake town, Keigetsukan and Sameura Kobo woodcraft to talk about local water, forests and food. Allow time and bring suitable shoes for mountain routes.

Tosa Harvest Festival in Reihoku: Yamabiko Carnival 2026

Scheduled for October 11, 2026, at the Fureai Plaza below Sameura Dam. The station can serve as a toilet and shopping stop for this nearby event.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The compact building suits a short break

Visitor reviews suggest this is best used for a brief toilet, shopping, meal and route-planning stop. Choosing beef, shopping or the lake as your main purpose helps keep the visit simple.

Roofed BBQ with setup and cleanup handled appeals to groups

BBQ reviews tend to value buying extras at the station, having equipment set up, and being able to use the roofed space in rain. Booking is especially useful for first-time visitors and family groups.

Autumn foliage and outdoor meals from spring to fall

BBQ and beef skewer sales are easier to plan from March through November; autumn also brings the foliage market and Setogawa Gorge. Pair seasonal food with a nearby outing to see more of Tosa Town.
