With children
Keep the meal and toilet stop brief

Enjoy the riverside setting rather than planning a long play session at the station; add a park or gorge if needed.

Beyond the station
Odamiyama or SOL-FA

Consider Odamiyama for fresh greenery or autumn leaves, and SOL-FA for snow play or other winter recreation.

Kasumi's weekend drive notes

Tarai udon for lunch; mountain village shopping on the way home.

Kasumi Wakamiya sees this riverside station as a place to settle into a family drive, rather than a large attraction. Use the toilets and farm shop first, eat at Kajikatei, and make Odamiyama or SOL-FA the place for play. Letting each stop serve its purpose brings out Oda's appeal.

With children, separating the meal stop from the play destination makes the break beside the Oda River more useful.

Highlights

Roadside Station Oda no Sato Seseragi is a small mountain village stop beside the Oda River on National Route 380 in Uchiko Town's Oda district. If you make one thing the focus, choose Oda's specialty tarai udon at the adjacent Kajikatei: a local udon dish of soft noodles with dipping broth. With little time, shop for freshly harvested vegetables, hishio (a fermented seasoning), and Oda Made ice cream flavored with ingredients such as roasted barley flour and black beans. With more time, continue to Odamiyama Gorge or the SOL-FA Oda ski slopes to experience Uchiko's river and mountains.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Kajikatei, overlooking the Oda River, is the main dining draw

Kajikatei, on the station grounds, is the place to plan a meal of Oda's specialty tarai udon. Dip its thin, soft noodles in a slightly sweet broth made from soybeans, dried shiitake mushrooms and iriko (dried small fish), then add garlic chives, ginger and yuzu for fragrance. Portions of udon are limited, so arrive early if lunch is your main purpose.

02

Shop for products from the Oda district

The specialty shop mainly stocks locally grown vegetables, fruit and wild mountain vegetables, handmade sweets, miso and hishio fermented seasoning, woodwork and crafts. Some items sell out in the morning. Browse before eating, then decide what to buy on your way out.

03

Use the station as a gateway to the river and mountains

This is not a station for spending half a day at large playgrounds or a big food court. After a toilet stop, shopping and lunch, continue to Odamiyama Gorge in spring or autumn, the SOL-FA Oda ski slopes in winter, or Uchiko Fresh Park Karari and the Yokaichi and Gokoku historic streets for a town walk. These stops add more to a drive through Uchiko.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Lunch break on a drive toward Uchiko or Kumakogen

A focused lunch stop for a taste of Oda

Arrive during the 11 o'clock hour, browse vegetables and prepared products at the farm shop first, then have tarai udon at Kajikatei. Buy Oda Made ice cream or baked sweets for the car afterward; the stop can fit into roughly 45 minutes to one hour.

Parking → toilets → farm shop → Kajikatei → sweets and souvenirs → departure

Udon portions are limited. If you arrive late for lunch, switch to shopping and a sweet snack instead of relying on a meal.

Mountain drive for fresh greenery or autumn leaves

Rest before or after Odamiyama

On a trip to Odamiyama Gorge, use the station for toilets, drinks and light shopping before taking the mountain road. If stopping on the way back, return before sunset; outside Kajikatei's hours, keep the stop to shopping and rest.

Station → Odamiyama Gorge → station or back toward Uchiko

Odamiyama has changes in elevation. Footing and road conditions can feel different after rain or in the autumn foliage season. Bring suitable shoes and a jacket if you plan to walk.

Families heading to the SOL-FA Oda ski slopes

In winter, stock up before snow play

For a winter visit to SOL-FA, use the station's toilets and get drinks and a light snack for the children before going to the slopes. On the way back, warm udon is an option if Kajikatei is open.

Station break → SOL-FA → toilets and shopping on the return

Snowfall, icy roads and the slopes' operating days can change a winter itinerary. Check the weather and roads before heading into the mountains.

Half-day drive for adults

Combine it with a walk around Uchiko

Visit the Yokaichi and Gokoku historic streets or Uchiko Fresh Park Karari in the morning, then have lunch at Oda no Sato Seseragi to experience both the town and mountain village. Karari and Oda offer different kinds of shopping; compare their vegetables, fermented seasonings and crafts.

Uchiko historic streets or Karari → Oda no Sato Seseragi → Odamiyama area or home

You need to drive from central Uchiko to the Oda district. If the afternoon will run late, plan around restaurant hours first.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Useful for a toilet stop and a little shopping.

This is not a large indoor play area. Keep nursing or diaper-change stops short according to the facilities available and how busy they are. Enjoy the riverside air without planning a long stay.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Easy to include if you keep the meal short; less suitable as a play-only destination.

Tarai udon is easy to share, but restaurant crowds and waits can be hard at this age. Toilets first, then food, then ice cream or the shop is a workable order.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

The river, udon and ice cream can each give children a small goal.

The Oda River view and Oda Made ice cream give a reason to stop. If children want more physical activity, add another destination such as Odamiyama or SOL-FA.

Primary school age
★★★★☆

Easy to pair a local dish with a mountain detour.

Soybean and dried-shiitake broth, woodwork and processed wild vegetables can all spark conversation about the area. Add Odamiyama during the fresh greenery or autumn foliage season for a more memorable trip.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Oda Lantern Festival

A summer event held in the Oda district on the last Saturday of July each year. In some years, parking near the roadside station is included in the event guidance; check that year's town or tourism information for the venue, times and parking.

Yamanokami Fire Festival

An event held each August 15 in Uchiko Town's Teramura district. For the evening festival, plan the return journey and parking; treat a roadside station visit as a separate daytime rest and shopping stop.

Fresh greenery and autumn leaves at Odamiyama

Odamiyama Gorge is especially appealing for fresh greenery in early summer and foliage in autumn. Eat and stock up at the station, then wear walkable shoes and clothing suited to the weather in the gorge.

Winter at the SOL-FA Oda ski slopes

Operating days, snowfall and road conditions shape a winter visit. For a family snow-play day, use the station for toilets, snacks and shopping on the return.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Plan tarai udon for an early lunch

Kajikatei's official information says udon is limited in quantity. Experience reports and reviews also often describe visitors coming specifically for tarai udon. If your schedule brings you in late for lunch, plan on the farm shop, sweets or other shopping if it has sold out.

Enjoy a soft local noodle dish, different from Sanuki udon

Experience reports suggest enjoying the thin, soft noodles and slightly sweet soybean, dried-shiitake and iriko broth rather than expecting the firm chew of Sanuki udon. Garlic chives, ginger and yuzu condiments complete the Oda flavor.

The farm shop has more choice in the morning

The official product guide says popular items can sell out during the morning. To browse wild mountain vegetables, other vegetables, fruit and prepared goods thoroughly, visit the shop on arrival rather than after eating.

On a rainy day, focus on food and shopping at the station

The feel of Odamiyama and riverside walks changes with the weather. On a rainy day, skip a forced outdoor walk and focus on Kajikatei, the farm shop, and hishio or jam to take home; even a short visit can have an Oda flavor.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Before heading to Odamiyama, use the station's toilets and get drinks and a light snack.

  • Snow and icy roads can change travel time toward SOL-FA in winter; use the station as a final preparation stop.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

A full lunch

Kajikatei tarai udon and daily lunch special

For a seated meal overlooking the Oda River. An early lunch during the 11 o'clock hour works well.

Choose by season

Hot tarai udon in winter; chilled udon in summer

The same local dish feels different by season: choose chilled noodles in hot weather and a warm serving in cold weather.

Something sweet for the car

Oda Made ice cream and baked sweets

Even without eating at the restaurant, you can take home a taste of Oda on a short stop.

Buy for dinner

Freshly harvested vegetables, hishio, miso and processed wild mountain vegetables

Choose ingredients to use at home. In summer, a cooler bag gives you more shopping options.

For gifts

Takayama Garden jams and juices, Tokunaga Apiary honey, and kokedama moss balls

A good choice when you want to see mountain village handcrafts as well as food.
