How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Shop first
Morning farm produce and Takarada rice

The produce hall opens at 8:00. Browse vegetables, fruit, and processed foods first, then buy perishables after your bath so they spend less time in the car.

For a meal
Udon Chaya Saita and Hidamari

Choose udon for a light meal, or dine at Hidamari inside Tamaki no Yu if you plan to eat after bathing.

For something sweet
Fresco handmade ice cream

A quick taste of seasonal fruit and local ingredients makes a distinctly Saita stop. Hours vary by season and day of the week.

For a rest
Tamaki no Yu's Golden and Silver Baths

The smaller bath contains iron; the larger bath is rich in sodium. Check the closing day and last admission before planning a bath.

For outdoor play
Park golf and Ayugaeri Falls

Choose light play at the station or a walk to the falls according to the weather. Watch your footing and avoid the falls when water levels rise.

Ayano's detour notes

Decide what to take home before entering the hot spring.

Takarada no Sato Saita works for a bath alone or a farm-produce stop alone. But browse the hall first, pause for udon or ice cream, and visit Tamaki no Yu if time allows: you will leave with a stronger sense of having rested in Saita's mountain setting. Parking, toilets, food, and rest areas are close together, so families and adults traveling alone can adjust their plans easily.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Takarada no Sato Saita is a roadside station in the hills of Saita-cho, Mitoyo, bringing together a produce and souvenir hall, udon restaurant, handmade ice cream, Tamaki no Yu hot spring, Yunotani-so lodging, park golf, and a local heritage hall. For a short stop, browse farm produce and have ice cream; over lunch, add udon and shopping; with more time, visit the baths, play park golf, or walk to Ayugaeri Falls. Between National Route 32 and Prefectural Route 5, it offers more than parking and toilets: a chance to take home some local food and a taste of the mountain water.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Start at the produce hall to discover what's in season in Saita

Under its boat-bottom-shaped roof, the hall stocks local vegetables and fruit, Takarada rice, processed foods, and Shikoku souvenirs. A morning visit gives you a good look at the selection and lets you decide what to buy before bathing or exploring nearby.

02

Choose among udon, bread, ice cream, and a dining room

Have a light Kagawa-style meal at Udon Chaya Saita, pick up bakery bread or sandwiches for the car, pause for Fresco's handmade ice cream, or eat set meals and noodles at Hidamari in Tamaki no Yu. Choose according to the time you have rather than committing to one meal stop.

03

The hot spring and rest room offer a real break from a long drive

Tamaki no Yu has the Golden and Silver Baths, an open-air bath, sauna, and free rest room. Companions who do not bathe can browse the hall, have ice cream, or explore nearby, making it easier for families and three generations to follow different interests.

04

Add Ayugaeri Falls for a fuller taste of this mountain setting

Visitors are directed to park at the roadside station and walk to nearby Ayugaeri Falls. The cool waterside is appealing, but the ground can be slippery; stay away when water levels rise. With a hot spring visit, a short rest becomes a small nature outing.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A break while traveling Prefectural Route 5 or National Route 32

For a 30-minute stop, rest with farm produce and ice cream

After parking and using the toilets, browse vegetables, fruit, Takarada rice, and Shikoku souvenirs in the hall. In warm weather, add Fresco ice cream for a short stop that still feels like Saita.

Parking → toilets → produce hall → ice cream shop → departure.

Ice cream shop hours vary by season and weekday. For a late-afternoon visit, focus on the produce hall.

A day when you want a light Kagawa-style meal

If stopping for lunch, start with udon and shopping

Have a light meal at Udon Chaya Saita, then choose things to take home in the hall. Even without a bath, the bakery or ice cream shop can suit companions with different appetites.

Udon Chaya Saita → produce hall → bakery or ice cream shop.

The udon restaurant is listed as open until 15:00. If you miss lunch, consider bread or ice cream.

Adults, three-generation groups, or a rainy-day break

For half a day, make time for Tamaki no Yu

Bathe in the Golden and Silver Baths at Tamaki no Yu, pause in the rest room, then eat at Hidamari. Return to the produce hall last to reduce the time fresh food stays in your car.

Tamaki no Yu → free rest room → Hidamari → produce hall.

Tamaki no Yu generally closes Mondays, or the following Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday. The dining room has separate closing days; check official updates if bathing is your main purpose.

Families with elementary-school children, three-generation groups, or anyone wanting activity

When children need to move, try park golf or the waterside

The station's park golf uses one club and a ball; equipment is rented at Tamaki no Yu reception. You can also walk to Ayugaeri Falls for a cool waterside stop, but the ground can be slippery, so do not let young children go ahead alone.

Produce hall → park golf; or roadside station parking → Ayugaeri Falls entrance → return to the station.

Children of junior-high-school age or younger need a guardian for park golf. Skip the falls when water is high, after rain, or if wearing sandals.

A spring or autumn detour, or a day for photos

For seasonal scenery, choose one stop for cherry blossoms, a waterfall, or autumn leaves

In spring, consider cherry blossoms around Togawa Dam or at Tojuyama Park; in summer, the coolness of Ayugaeri Falls; in autumn, foliage at Kagawa Canal Memorial Park or the great ginkgo at Shakado. Add one seasonal walk after food and a bath at the station, leaving yourself some time to spare.

Roadside station → one seasonal spot → journey home.

Mountain roads grow dark after sunset. Visit viewpoints and the falls in daylight.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Nursing room, diaper-changing station, and multipurpose toilet are listed, making short stops convenient.

A brief visit to the hall, toilets, and ice cream shop may be easier than a long bath or waterfall outing.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

The hall and sweets are easy to enjoy, but the waterfall and waterside require careful footing.

Ayugaeri Falls can be slippery, and children should not go there alone. A short look around the park golf area may be easier for outdoor time.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Ice cream, bread, a short walk, and a hot spring rest offer a change of pace.

On hot days, keep outdoor time short and begin with indoor breaks at the hall and Tamaki no Yu.

Elementary-school children
★★★★☆

Park golf, Ayugaeri Falls, or Kagawa Canal Memorial Park can turn the stop into an outing.

Check the guardian requirement for park golf. For the falls, check footwear and water levels.

Toilets and diaper changing

Facility information lists a multipurpose toilet, ostomate facilities, baby chair, diaper-changing station, and nursing room.

Rainy day

Focus your visit indoors at the hall, udon restaurant, ice cream shop, hot spring, and rest room.

Outdoor play

Park golf is an option, but judge waterfall and waterside visits by footing and water levels.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Ice cream and bread offer an alternative to waiting for a meal

If the udon restaurant or dining room does not fit your schedule, Fresco's handmade ice cream and the bakery let you make a shorter stop. At weekend lunchtime, leave room for sweets or a light bite instead of planning solely around a full meal.

Check current official and social-media updates for events

Seasonal food fairs and summer beer garden events can change the experience on a particular day. Check dates on event pages and social media so you do not plan around an event that has ended.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Morning shopping

Local vegetables, fruit, Takarada rice, and processed foods

The hall opens at 8:00. Morning is a good time to browse the selection and decide what to buy before bathing or exploring nearby.

If buying perishables, arrange your visit so they do not sit in the car throughout a bath or long walk.

A light taste of Kagawa

Udon Chaya Saita

A meal suited to a travel break, with approximate hours of 9:00–15:00. Have a bowl here before or after heading to a busy sightseeing area.

If udon is your main purpose, aim to arrive around lunchtime or earlier.

Pause for a sweet treat

Fresco handmade ice cream

Choose from regular and seasonal flavors such as milk, matcha, black sesame with kinako (roasted soybean flour), pumpkin, and strawberry. A simple pleasure for children and adults on a short stop.

Hours differ between April–October and November–March, and between weekdays and weekends or public holidays.

A meal after bathing

Hidamari set meals, rice bowls, and noodles

Eat at Tamaki no Yu when you want to finish your meal there too. Children's meals and à la carte dishes are available, so you can rest without driving elsewhere after bathing.

Its closing days do not exactly match the hot spring's; check the latest notice if you are coming for a meal.

Options when dining areas are busy

Bakery bread, sandwiches, ice cream, and food to go from the hall

At weekend lunchtimes, keep the option to switch from a dining room to bread, ice cream, or shopping so your schedule stays flexible.
