With a dog
Reservations required for the dog run

This free dog run faces the lawn. Visits are generally limited to 60 minutes, and reservations are handled through LINE.

For a rest
24 hour toilets, convenience store and showers

At night and early morning, plan around the rest facilities rather than the shops.

Rest stop notes from Hinata (日向 悠路)

Rest before you shop. Then choose what to see in Saijo, the sake town.

Hinata (日向 悠路) sees this station first as a place to check on passengers and manage time, before learning brewery names. Parking, toilets, a rest lounge and several meal options make it useful both before and after Sakagura Street. Browse sake and vegetables, take care of children's or dogs' needs, and visit the town or a park if you still have energy. That sequence keeps the day manageable.

Short stop

Use the 24 hour toilets and convenience store; visit the shop during its opening hours, then leave after about 30 minutes.

Lunch break

Choose among the food court, restaurant and sweets according to the crowds.

Half day

Eat and shop at the station, then add either Sakagura Street or a park.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

See Saijo sake and Higashihiroshima food together on the souvenir shelves

The shop sells farm and seafood products, processed foods and sake from Higashihiroshima. Its roadside station exclusive Kuramusubi sake brings together Saijo's seven breweries, making the shelves useful both for learning about the breweries before visiting Sakagura Street and for choosing souvenirs afterward.

02

Several meal options make lunchtime easier to plan

Choose among the food court, restaurant, curry, burgers, coffee and warabi mochi, a soft bracken starch sweet. At busy weekend lunches, leave room for a quick meal, a sweet break or something to take away from the shop instead of relying on one outlet.

03

Toilets, a convenience store, showers and EV charging support overnight breaks

Outdoor toilets, a convenience store, coin operated showers and EV charging are available 24 hours, making this a useful long drive stop on the Saijo Bypass. Plan shopping and dining during shop hours, and use the rest facilities for late night or early morning stops.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A half day Saijo trip for adults

Decide on sake souvenirs before visiting Sakagura Street

First browse the shop and sake shelves for an overview of Saijo's seven breweries and Higashihiroshima ingredients. Then drive toward Sakagura Street and explore on foot. Browse at the station, see the breweries and their direct sales shops, and pick up any remaining souvenirs on the return trip.

Browse the roadside station shop → travel to Saijo Sakagura Street → check brewery access at the tourist information center → buy anything else on the way home

Opening days and tasting availability differ by brewery. Drivers should plan their visit without tasting sake.

A family stop on a rainy or hot day

Let children play indoors while adults split up meals and shopping

The indoor children's play area can be watched from the food court, corridor and restaurant side. Breaking the stop into play, lunch and a short shop visit can help preschool children switch activities.

Park → toilets → children's play area → food court or restaurant → shop

Reservations are required for children aged 0 to 8. During events, fees or hours may change.

A 30 minute driving break

Make a short, practical stop on the Saijo Bypass

Even without a meal, the 24 hour toilets and convenience store, information center, EV charging and showers help passengers take care of several needs in one stop. By day, pick up drinks or souvenirs in the shop; at night, focus on the rest facilities.

Park → outdoor toilets and convenience store → EV charging or shower if needed → depart

Outside shop hours, the rest facilities are the main draw. There are many large vehicle spaces, so watch for moving vehicles while walking.

Around lunchtime with a dog

Stop comfortably with a dog at the dog run and outdoor shops

The free, reservation based dog run faces the lawn. Allow up to 60 minutes; while one person stays with the dog, others can visit the shop or outdoor food outlets.

Park → dog run → outdoor shops or local products shop → drink water and depart

The dog run has a LINE reservation link. On hot days, check pavement temperature and shade and keep the stop short.

A half day drive

Have lunch at the station, then visit a park or hot spring

The station offers plenty to do, but on a clear day Ikoi no Mori Park adds outdoor time; on a rainy or tiring day, Hot Kamo natural hot spring offers a rest. Use the station for lunch and shopping, then choose one afternoon destination for your group.

Lunch at the roadside station → Ikoi no Mori Park or Hot Kamo natural hot spring → return

The Mount Ryuo viewpoint involves an uphill walk, not just a short stroll. With young children or in hot weather, stop at the park's open spaces instead.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 or younger
★★★★☆

The baby care area and infant facilities in the outdoor toilets make nursing and diaper changes easier to plan.

The information center and rest lounge have a raised tatami platform, and a baby care area is listed. A short sequence of toilets, nursing and shopping may be easier than a long visit.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The indoor children's play area gives children room to move on rainy or hot days.

The large play equipment is appealing, but reservations are required. If play is your main aim, check current hours and fees, which may change on event days.

Ages 4–6
★★★★★

The play area, food court and sweets make it easy to vary the activities.

The indoor area is for ages 0 to 8, so preschool children can have a substantial break at the station. If it is crowded, Ikoi no Mori Park is another option.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Add a nearby park or Sakagura Street to a short station visit for more play and learning.

Sakagura Street offers a walk among the historic breweries; Ikoi no Mori Park has large play equipment and nature trails. Lunch at the station plus one destination can fill the day.

Children's play area

Open 10:00–18:00 for ages 0 to 8. Hours or fees may change during events.

Infant facilities

Use the baby care area in the information center and rest lounge, and children's facilities in the outdoor toilets.

Meals

The food court, restaurant, curry, burgers and sweets make it easy to change plans with age or crowds.

Outdoor play

For room to play on clear days, go to Ikoi no Mori Park or Kagamiyama Park after the station.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
    Choose a parking space

Many large vehicles use this station. By day, choose a space near the shop entrance; late at night or early morning, prioritize access to the 24 hour toilets and convenience store.

  2. 2
Use the toilets and rest area first

The outdoor toilets are available 24 hours. The information center and rest lounge have a raised tatami platform for a short break before or after a meal.

  3. 3
Plan purchases of sake and chilled goods separately

Choose sake and chilled goods with your journey home in mind. In hot weather, a cooler bag expands your options for vegetables and souvenirs.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Open square and covered plaza

Used for outdoor events and markets. Summer festivals, stalls and stage events make it livelier than usual.

Eaves covered plaza

An outdoor facing space used for vegetable fill up offers and children's festival stalls. It provides some cover from rain and sun for a short visit.

Multipurpose exhibition room

A reservation based space for art displays, workshops and classes. Check station event information for current activities.

Children's play area

Normally a free indoor play area requiring reservations, though major events such as anniversary celebrations may change hours or fees.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Keep more than one lunch option on weekends

The food court, restaurant, outdoor shops and sweets give a group room to adapt to preferences and crowds. Keep Saijo ramen, pasta, burgers, curry and warabi mochi in mind so lunchtime stays flexible.

The children's play area is useful, but event days change its terms

The indoor play area is for ages 0 to 8 and is especially useful in rain or extreme heat. Large events, such as anniversary celebrations, can change hours and fees. Check the latest notice when play is your main reason for visiting.

Plan driving and sake tasting separately on a Sakagura Street trip

The roadside station is on the Saijo Bypass, while Sakagura Street is near JR Saijo Station. Drivers can browse souvenirs here before walking the town, but decide in advance who will drive and who, if anyone, will taste sake.

At night and early morning, use the rest facilities

The 24 hour outdoor toilets, convenience store, coin operated showers and EV charging make this a useful long distance driving stop. The shop and restaurants operate during their own hours, so plan according to the time of day.

Treat the viewpoint at Ikoi no Mori Park as an uphill walk

The park guidance puts the summit of Mount Ryuo about an hour's walk from the parking area. Do not plan it as a short after lunch stroll. With children or in hot weather, use the large playground and multipurpose open space; walk to the summit when your group is prepared.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

  • The shop is generally open 9:00–20:30 year round. Restaurants differ in opening, closing and last order times.
  • The outdoor toilets, convenience store, coin operated showers and EV charging are listed as available 24 hours. At night, plan around rest facilities rather than shops.
  • Reservations are required for the children's play area and dog run. During events, hours and fees may change.

  • On Sakagura Street, hours, tastings and closure days vary by brewery. Drivers should plan not to taste sake.
  • In summer, account for heat at outdoor events and in the car park; in winter, account for the chill of the Saijo Basin. Adjust time indoors and on nearby walks.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Sake souvenirs

Kuramusubi and Saijo sake

The limited series featuring Saijo's seven breweries makes a distinctive souvenir here. If you plan to visit Sakagura Street, you can first use the station to learn the labels before buying.

Drivers should skip tastings and plan to buy sake to take home.

A full lunch

KAMOSU food court / RISTORANTE FAMIGLIA

Choose the food court for collaborations with local shops or Saijo ramen, and the restaurant for a seated pasta or pizza meal. They give groups with different preferences options.

Check each outlet's last order time and shorter Sunday or national holiday hours.

A quick meal

BOMBAY CURRY EXPRESS / BISTRO PAPA

Curry and burgers work for a short meal with children or during a drive. During busy periods, avoid occupying a table for long and consider the outdoor shops.

A sweet break

Wagashito's warabi mochi and drinks

Even between meal times, warabi mochi and matcha or roasted green tea drinks make a break on the Saijo Bypass. Listed summer weekend and holiday hours run until 17:00.

Summer hours from May 2, 2026: weekdays 10:00–16:00; weekends and national holidays 10:00–17:00; no regular closing day. Winter listings show 10:00–16:00 and Tuesday closure, subject to change.

To take home

Higashihiroshima vegetables, processed foods and groceries

The shop is generally open until 20:30, so shopping is possible in the evening. In summer, bring a cooler bag for vegetables and chilled products.
