Yuro's stopover notes

Start with the children's needs to make this station easy to use.

Yuro Miyasaka sees more here than a meal stop. First, visit the toilet building for nursing, diaper changes and children's toilets. Then use the wood-themed play corner and trick art at Akitakata NAVI. Once everyone settles, look for vegetables or sweets at Veggie Park, or head to the restaurant at lunchtime. Taking care of the family's fatigue first leaves more energy for Mori Motonari's history, the soccer park or Haji Dam.

Rather than trying to eat, shop and play all at once, plan the stop around the children's break.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Mitsuya no Sato Akitakata stands on National Route 54 between Hiroshima City and Miyoshi City. In one stop you can use the Veggie Park direct-sales market, Farmers' Restaurant, snack outlets, Akitakata NAVI and 24-hour toilets. Fresh vegetables, Jomon ice cream, Mitsuya udon and Yasha udon are among the food attractions. A wood-themed children's play corner, nursing room, diaper-changing facilities and children's toilets make a family driving break easier to plan. With more time, visit the Koriyama Castle ruins associated with Mori Motonari, Sanfre Park or Haji Dam for a mix of local food, history and outdoor activities.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Separate buildings make it easy to choose direct sales, a meal, snacks or information

Start at Veggie Park for vegetables and processed foods, then head to the restaurant at lunchtime or to Ekimenya or sweets if time is short. Choosing the building for your purpose is easier than treating the station as one large building to explore.

02

Children can take a break indoors

Akitakata NAVI has a wood-themed children's play corner and Mori Motonari trick art. The toilet building has a nursing room, diaper-changing facilities and children's toilets. Even in rain or heat, children can get out of the car for a change of scene.

03

The name links Mori Motonari and Sanfrecce to the town

Mitsuya, meaning three arrows, refers to Mori Motonari's lesson of the three arrows, a story about strength through unity. Add the nearby Koriyama Castle ruins, the history and folklore museum or Sanfre Park to learn more about Akitakata beyond a rest stop.

04

Monthly markets and soccer viewings bring different activities

Official notices announce food-truck markets, reservation-only beer hall events and public screenings of Sanfrecce Hiroshima matches. On event days, allow more time to park and find a seat than for an ordinary meal stop.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

When children tire during a drive on National Route 54

Plan a 30-minute family break

If you can park in Lot 1, first use the toilet building for nursing or diaper changes. Then stop briefly at Akitakata NAVI for the wood-themed play corner and trick art. Pick up one sweet or takeaway item at Veggie Park before returning to the car.

Parking → toilet building → Akitakata NAVI → Veggie Park → departure

Parking Lot 2 is across the national highway, so with small children check how busy Lot 1 is and choose a manageable route.

A midday drive between Hiroshima City and Miyoshi

Have lunch at the station

For a full meal, start with Farmers' Restaurant. If it is busy or you want something lighter, switch to Mitsuya udon at Ekimenya, Mitsuya-yaki or soft-serve ice cream. You can buy vegetables and processed foods at the market before leaving.

Veggie Park → restaurant or Ekimenya → Akitakata NAVI

The restaurant is generally open until 15:00, with last orders around 14:30. For a late lunch, plan on a snack outlet or the market instead.

History lovers, families with schoolchildren and rainy-day learning stops

Spend half a day in Mori Motonari's town

Learn briefly at NAVI or the market why the station is named Mitsuya, then head to the Akitakata City History and Folklore Museum and the Koriyama Castle ruins. If you do not plan a substantial walk around the mountain castle, focus on the museum and use the station for food and toilets.

Station → History and Folklore Museum → walkable part of Koriyama Castle ruins → station or town center

Koriyama Castle is a mountain castle site. With toddlers or after rain, focus on the museum and keep any castle walk short, watching your footing.

Sanfrecce training visits, public viewings and watching sports

Use the station for food and a break on a soccer day

Before going to Sanfre Park, use the station's toilets and get drinks and a snack. Public viewings of league matches are also announced at the station. For a soccer-focused visit, check the official schedule and any venue changes.

Station → Sanfre Park, or a public viewing at the station

Training visits and match-related events can change dates. Check Sanfrecce's official information and city notices shortly before going.

Sunny-day park play, cherry blossoms, autumn leaves and cycling

Add outdoor time at Haji Dam in spring or autumn

After lunch and shopping at the station, head to Nodogoe Park or the cycling terminal at Haji Dam for a day combining food and outdoor play. During cherry blossom, hydrangea and autumn foliage seasons, allow for crowds and parking, and use the station's toilets first.

Station → Haji Dam and Lake Yachiyo area → return journey

The dam is some distance from the station. With young children, leave room to shorten outdoor play if they become sleepy after eating.

Use the toilet building first. Choosing snacks or the market instead of insisting on a restaurant meal can make the stop easier.

Children's toilets and the wood-themed play corner offer a short change of pace.

This is not a large park for long runs. Combine brief stops at the trick art, sweets and market.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Keep options beyond the restaurant for meals

The restaurant, Ekimenya, bread shop and sweets outlets are separate, so you can match your companions' appetites. At lunchtime or during events, switching to a light meal, soft-serve ice cream or something from the market can keep plans flexible.

The toilet building helps families with infants

Alongside 24-hour toilets, visitor information lists a nursing room, formula-preparation machine, diaper-changing table and children's toilets. On a long drive, several children's needs can be handled in one stop before they tire.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

  • The direct-sales building, restaurant, snack outlets and information building have different hours. Check official notices if arriving late or in winter.
  • Parking Lot 2 is across National Route 54. With infants or in rain, check for space in Lot 1 first.
  • Bread, sweets and seasonal goods can sell out. Visit earlier if you are coming for a particular item.

  • Koriyama Castle is a mountain castle site. With children or after rain, focus on the museum and keep the walk short.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Buy vegetables

Local vegetables, fish, meat, mochi rice cakes and processed foods

Visit Veggie Park first if you want to take Akitakata ingredients home. The selection changes with the seasons, so choose something that catches your eye.

Sit down for lunch

Farmers' Restaurant Akitakata

A first choice for a seated meal featuring local and Hiroshima Prefecture ingredients. Arriving before the peak makes it easier to find seats for a family.

Eat lightly

Mitsuya udon, Mitsuya-yaki, soba noodles and soft-serve ice cream

Good when a full meal feels too much, children are eating little, or you need to leave soon.

Take a sweets break

Jomon ice cream and soft-serve ice cream with rusk pieces

These offer a taste of the station even on a short stop. In summer or on event days, be ready to change plans if there is a queue or items sell out.

Take something home

Premium bread, Mori Motonari souvenirs and a Michi-no-Eki collectible ticket

Even without a restaurant meal, you can take home food or a memento of the trip. Bread sales end when sold out, so go earlier if it is a priority.

Look for featured items

Yasha udon, Yasha gyoza and limited-time menu items

These items often appear in official notices or social media. If making a special trip, check the start date and which shop serves them.
