How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

See first
Fuchu furniture displays and the farmers' market

Display shelves reflecting Fuchu's woodworking tradition hold seasonal vegetables, prepared foods and miso products. This is a small station, so a first lap makes it easier to choose.

For a meal
Cafe Restaurant Ippo

Generally open from 9:00 to 17:00. It serves breakfast, lunch and teatime at different hours: stop around midday for a meal or in the afternoon for sweets and a break.

To shop
Fuchu miso and sweets from Joge

Combine Fuchu miso, miso sweets, liquor cake, tsuchinoko manju sweets and woodcrafts for gifts that reflect Fuchu.

To rest
Parking and a break inside the station

This in-town parking area has 33 car spaces and five large-vehicle spaces. On busy days, watch the flow of people around Fuchu Tenmaya and the station front, and leave room for a shorter stop.

To explore town
Fuchu-yaki and Koishiki

Use the Fuchu-yaki map to choose a lunch spot in town, or walk to the historic Koishiki building for more than a shopping stop.

Kuzumi's rest-stop notes

Even a short stop leaves you with Fuchu's flavors and the feel of its woodwork.

Kuzumi (久住 悠路) sees this station as a place to get oriented before entering Fuchu town, rather than a destination for a full day of play. Check parking, restrooms and opening hours first, then branch out to a meal at Ippo, Fuchu miso shopping and a walk to a Fuchu-yaki restaurant. Even a brief stop has a strong local character; you may find yourself looking over the shelves for one more item before leaving.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Bingo Fuchu is a rest stop in town on National Route 486, close to JR Fuchu Station and Fuchu Tenmaya. Its farmers' market stocks vegetables mainly from Fuchu City, as well as from northern Hiroshima Prefecture and the Seto Inland Sea area. The local products shop features Fuchu miso, with a history of nearly 400 years, liquor cake, tsuchinoko manju sweets, Fuchu furniture and other woodwork. Eat at Cafe Restaurant Ippo, then take a Fuchu-yaki map into town: a short break can become a half-day drive around Fuchu. Fuchu-yaki is a local style of okonomiyaki made with minced meat.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A roadside station at the entrance to town

About 15 minutes from Onomichi-kita IC and 20 minutes from Fukuyama-nishi IC, it is also close to JR Fuchu Station. It works as a first stop in town for restrooms, food and tourist information, rather than as a large expressway rest area.

02

Fuchu miso and woodcraft give the station its character

Fuchu miso, Fuchu furniture, woodcrafts, Bingo kasuri (traditionally woven patterned cloth) and local sweets can all be found indoors. Beyond vegetables, the station gives a quick introduction to Fuchu's industries and food culture.

03

An easy indoor break with children

There is a kids' space and a nursing room, while Fuchu furniture tables and chairs offer places to eat or enjoy sweets. For longer play, continue to Pom Pom or i-coreFUCHU, especially on rainy or hot days.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short break

Shop for a taste of Fuchu in 30 minutes

After parking, use the restroom, look for seasonal vegetables at the farmers' market, then browse Fuchu miso and sweets in the local products shop. The small station makes it easy to estimate how long it will take to browse the shelves and pick up a sweet for the drive back.

Parking → restrooms → farmers' market → local products shop → departure

The in-town parking lot can approach capacity around lunchtime and on event days. If you are not eating here, plan a shorter stop.

Eating and shopping

Make lunch a trip through Fuchu miso and Fuchu-yaki

Eat a meal using local ingredients at Ippo, buy miso or woodcrafts in the shop, then use the Fuchu-yaki map to find a specialist restaurant in town. Miso at the station and Fuchu-yaki in town offer different tastes of Fuchu.

Lunch at Ippo → local products shop → Fuchu-yaki restaurant or the Kiterras Fuchu area

Serving hours at the restaurant and opening days of Fuchu-yaki shops vary. Keep both the station cafe and town restaurants as lunch options.

Families with children; rainy weather

Combine an indoor break with station-front facilities on a rainy day

Pause at the station's kids' space and nursing room, then, if needed, head to i-coreFUCHU in the adjacent Fuchu Tenmaya building. Having indoor options within walking distance makes it easier to give children a change of scene in rain or intense heat.

Roadside station → i-coreFUCHU, 2nd floor of Fuchu Tenmaya → station-front area

i-coreFUCHU is generally open from 9:00 to 20:00, but events and facility use may affect this. Check official information and notices on the day.

A town walk for adults

Spend the afternoon at Koishiki or the white-walled streets

After shopping and resting at the station, walk to nearby Koishiki. With more time, drive to Joge's white-walled streets or Kawasa Gorge to see more of Fuchu's history and natural scenery alongside its woodworking and miso.

Roadside station → Koishiki → Joge's white-walled streets or Kawasa Gorge

Joge and Kawasa Gorge require a drive. From the station, choose one according to the season and weather rather than trying to fit in both.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★★☆

A nursing room and indoor seating make a short break easier.

Nursing, diaper changes and a meal can be handled at the station, though it is not a place for extended play. Continue to i-coreFUCHU or Pom Pom if needed.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The kids' space and sweets offer a change of pace.

Spend time indoors among the warm wood furnishings. Merchandise shelves are close by, so adults may find it easier to take turns shopping.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Combine a meal, shopping and station-front facilities for variety.

For a full day, make i-coreFUCHU or Fuchu Children's Land Pom Pom a separate destination rather than expecting prolonged play at the station alone.

Elementary school age
★★★☆☆

Fuchu miso and woodcrafts offer an introduction to local culture.

For active play, head to Pom Pom or Kawasa Gorge. On rainy days, combine the station with indoor time at i-coreFUCHU.

Nursing room

A useful facility for a break with young children.

Kids' space

Best for short visits between eating and shopping.

Strollers

This is a small station in town; move slowly around the shelves when it is busy.

Rain and extreme heat

Keep nearby i-coreFUCHU, reachable on foot, and Pom Pom, reached by car, as options to keep plans flexible.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
    Choose a parking space first

The in-town lot has 33 car spaces. At lunchtime or during events, plan a brief visit and avoid squeezing farther into the lot than necessary.

  2. 2
Restrooms and shopping in close succession

Restrooms, the farmers' market, local products shop and restaurant are all within the station building. Choose Fuchu products without adding a long walk.

  3. 3
Decide whether to add a walk after eating

Koishiki is within walking distance, but on hot or rainy days another break at a station-front facility may be more comfortable.

Spaces used for events

Community terrace and station-front market

The community terrace and station-front space sometimes host vendors, workshops and local markets. Check the official Instagram account for the latest HAPPY SUNDAY MARKET information.

Fuchu-yaki and tourist information

Pick up a Fuchu-yaki map, tourist information and ideas for walking around Fuchu Station. Even without an event, the station is a useful place to prepare for a visit to town.

Seasonal shopping

The farmers' market's focus changes with the seasons: spring wild vegetables, summer vegetables, autumn fruit and root vegetables, and products for winter miso dishes. Earlier in the day generally offers more choice.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

An entry point to town rather than a large mountain-road rest area

Fuchu City describes parking and a rotary on the National Route 486 side, with the station building on the JR Fuchu Station side. The area serves Gurutto Bus, express buses and local buses. The flow of people arriving by rail and bus as well as car makes it useful as a starting point for a town walk.

Fuchu furniture displays and Fuchu miso stand out

The station's official site and tourism coverage highlight vegetables from local growers, Fuchu miso with a tradition described as 400 years old, woodwork and sweets. Visitor comments also often mention miso, woodworking and the Fuchu-yaki map; there is more to see here than a typical produce market.

Divide your food stops between Ippo and Fuchu-yaki in town

Ippo is the station restaurant for breakfast, lunch and teatime. Fuchu-yaki varies by specialist shop, so leave time to consult the map at the station and head into town for another food stop.

For children, plan beyond the station

The kids' space and nursing room make breaks easier. For more active play, consider i-coreFUCHU within walking distance or Pom Pom by car. Combining indoor facilities is especially practical in rain or heat.

Check social media for the latest events

The official site has a news page, but recent vendors and markets may appear first on the station's official Instagram or HAPPY SUNDAY MARKET's Instagram. Check whether an event is happening before your visit.

Choose the next stop by season

From spring into early summer, try a town walk or the hydrangeas at Jinguji Temple; in summer, Kawasa Gorge. Koishiki and i-coreFUCHU are indoor-oriented options throughout the year. Adding one seasonal stop beyond the station reveals more of Fuchu.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Wednesday is the usual closing day. Check official notices for public holidays, the New Year period and event days.
  • The farmers' market generally has a better selection earlier in the day.
  • The in-town lot has 33 car spaces, so a shorter stop may be easier at lunchtime or on event days.
  • For Fuchu-yaki, consider a restaurant in town as well as eating at the station to experience more of Fuchu.
