A lunch stop between central Miyoshi and the Matsue direction
Eat plenty of vegetables at lunchtime on Route 54
When you are hungry, this is more enjoyable than a convenience-store stop. On weekends and public holidays, sample small portions of side dishes made with Funo and Sakugi vegetables at the buffet. On weekdays, the lunch cafeteria is a practical choice for a quick, warm set meal.
On Route 54. The station's earlier access guidance gave about 20 minutes by car from Miyoshi IC and 18 minutes from Kuchiwa IC; its current site gives about 15 minutes from Miyoshi IC via Routes 375 and 54.
The buffet day matters. In winter and early spring, check current weekday meal arrangements as well.
Families with preschoolers who want food and a restroom stop together
With children, use this as a place to reset
Do not count on large play equipment or an indoor play area. Parking, restrooms, food, gelato and a little shopping are easy to combine. Check seating and the restroom before eating, then finish with ice cream.
Parking → restrooms → meal → market → ice cream shop.
If children need room to run, add time at Fruit Land Funo in season or around Kimita Onsen.
A short break or shopping before evening
Even a shopping-only stop brings Funo home
Funo Fureai Market centers on seasonal vegetables shipped directly by growers in Funo and Sakugi. Look also for Yokotani rice, miso, mochi rice cakes, yuzu miso and black garlic. These local foods make the visit worthwhile even without a meal.
Visit the market first and leave gelato or other cold treats until last.
The selection of farm products may shrink late in the afternoon. Come earlier if you have a particular item in mind.
Days to avoid outdoor play; adults and grandparents
On rainy days, choose food and literature
On a rainy day, focus on the market and a meal rather than stretching the trip to an outdoor attraction. If you can make a short drive, visit the Kenkichi Nakamura Memorial Literary Museum, housed in the renovated birthplace of a modern tanka poet. Tanka is a short Japanese verse form.
Yume Land Funo → Kenkichi Nakamura Memorial Literary Museum.
The museum closes Mondays and over New Year. Contact it in advance if you need a guided explanation.
Families with children and seasonal harvest experiences
In autumn, add fruit picking for a half-day outing
Fruit Land Funo offers autumn apple picking and chestnut gathering. Lunch at the station followed by fruit picking turns a Route 54 break into a seasonal outing.
Yume Land Funo → Fruit Land Funo; allow about 10 minutes by car.
Fruit picking depends on the season and crop. Check official or tourism information for operating dates.
A drive into the evening, trips with grandparents, or a refreshing bath
Finish the return journey at Kimita Onsen
Add Kimita Onsen Mori no Izumi after dining and shopping. Renovated in 2024, this complex has a hot spring, lodging and dining, making it an option for families and three-generation groups.
Yume Land Funo → Kimita Onsen Mori no Izumi; allow about 20 minutes by car.
Kimita Onsen is listed as closed Tuesdays. Bath and restaurant hours differ; check the facility before visiting.
