Highlights

Restore Station was the first michi-no-eki (roadside station) certified in Hiroshima Prefecture. It is a compact stop, with a specialty shop packed with Soryo konnyaku, Taso yokan, local sake, and local vegetables, plus the avenir town restaurant serving Hiba beef and local ingredients. It turns a break on National Route 432 into a taste of Soryo. In early spring, it also serves as a base for visiting wild setsubunso flowers: start at the Dome of Light before heading into the satoyama countryside.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A small stop that brings Soryo's flavors close

The shop is smaller than those at large roadside stations. That makes its Soryo konnyaku (a firm jelly food made from konjac), Taso yokan (sweet bean jelly), local sake, seasonal mochi rice cakes, and local vegetables easy to spot. Even on a short break, you can quickly decide what to take home. If you have come to eat and shop, circle the specialty shop first and choose your souvenirs.

02

Make avenir town the reason for your meal stop

West of the Dome of Light, avenir town MIRAINO-MACHI is a restaurant to visit for lunch or café time. Its dishes feature Hiba beef and local ingredients, and some visitors come specifically for the restaurant. It closes Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so check the day before planning a meal around it.

03

An early-spring base for setsubunso flowers

Soryo-cho is known for wild setsubunso, small early-spring flowers. Information about public viewing usually appears from mid-February to early March. During the viewing period, the Dome of Light serves as an information base, where you can check flowering conditions before visiting the natural habitats. The flowers are tiny, and weather and blooming conditions affect what you see, so allow time for a gentle walk through the satoyama countryside.

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A drive from Shobara IC toward Joge and Sera

Turn a Route 432 break into a Soryo shopping stop

There is more here than restrooms and a drink. Walk around the specialty shop to find Soryo konnyaku, Taso yokan sweet bean jelly, local sake, and local vegetables; even a short stay lets you take home local flavors.

Head south from Shobara IC on National Route 432. Shop at the station, then continue toward Joge and Sera.

The station closes Tuesdays. Evening closing times differ between listings, so arrive earlier if shopping is your main purpose.

A leisurely adult lunch or a destination on a northern Hiroshima drive

Build a meal stop around avenir town

avenir town is known for creative dishes using local ingredients and Hiba beef. Even at this small roadside station, a meal here can be a reason to stay longer. After eating, pick up sweets or konnyaku products in the specialty shop for an easy eat-and-shop visit.

Arrive during the 11:00 hour for lunch, browse the specialty shop afterward, and head toward the Taso River if time allows.

The restaurant closes Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Seating and menu availability may vary by day; check the restaurant's current information if traveling far specifically for a meal.

Satoyama walks and wildflower lovers from mid-February to early March

In setsubunso season, start here before visiting the flowers

Soryo-cho's setsubunso are tiny flowers at your feet, rather than a broad field of blooms to view from afar. During the public viewing period, information is available around the station. Check conditions at the Dome of Light first, then choose a natural habitat site you can comfortably visit.

Restore Station → setsubunso information desk → an open natural habitat site. Shop at the specialty products shop on your return.

Blooming depends on the weather. Paths can be damp, so wear comfortable walking shoes.

Families with toddlers or primary school children on a long drive

Give children a brief outdoor break

This is not a place for hours of play on large equipment, but the park and riverside by the Taso River offer space to stretch after a drive. Keep the stop short rather than trying to fit in a full meal and shopping session.

Restrooms → a drink or sweets in the specialty shop → a short outdoor break by the riverside park.

Weather and water levels change conditions by the river. Stay close to small children.

A half-day drive around Shobara and Taishakukyo

Add a taste of the area before or after Shobara and Taishakukyo

Even if Taishakukyo or central Shobara is your main destination, a stop here adds a memory of Soryo's food and flowers. Place it before or after a larger attraction for a gentler pace.

Visit Restore Station from central Shobara or Shobara IC, then add Ryukoji Temple or a setsubunso habitat site if time permits.

A car is the usual way to explore the surrounding area. For an evening stop, plan around the specialty shop and restaurant hours.
