If you're with children

During blossom season, plan parking and crowds separately and use the station as a place to stock up.

Toma's detour notes

Keep it simple: choose one Kisuki flavor and one place for your next break.

Toma Amamiya sees Sakura no Sato Kisuki as a place to get ready before or after entering Kisuki, rather than the destination itself. Plan for parking, toilets and opening hours first. For food, try Izumo soba or grilled mackerel; for shopping, the farmers' market and cherry blossom souvenirs. Head to the Hii River in spring, or to the park or baths at other times. Even a short break can help you decide where to go next.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Sakura no Sato Kisuki is a practical stop on Route 54 near the Kisuki–Kamo boundary, about five minutes from Mitoya-Kisuki IC on the Matsue Expressway. It brings together the Tanbi ni Kite-ya farmers' market, grilled mackerel and grilled mackerel sushi, Kisuki Milk soft serve, Izumo soba and a Y Shop, turning a toilet break on a long drive into a taste of the area. In spring, pair a short stop with the Hii River Embankment Cherry Blossom Rows; at other times, continue to the adjacent Furusato Shakunouchi Park or Orochi Yuttarikan baths for a little more of Kisuki.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Close to the interchange and easy to fit around a meal

Just off the Matsue Expressway on Route 54, the station is a quick place to use the toilet, get a drink and do a little shopping between the Matsue and Izumo area and Okuizumo. The Y Shop's longer hours are also useful on morning or evening drives.

02

Get a taste of Kisuki with grilled mackerel and Izumo soba

The prefectural tourism guide highlights grilled mackerel, grilled mackerel sushi, Izumo soba (the area's buckwheat noodles), rice cooked with Okuizumo maitake mushrooms, and Kisuki Milk soft serve. Whether you stop for lunch or pick up food to take away, there are clear local flavors to try.

03

A renewed farmers' market and a children's area in the souvenir shop

According to the tourism association, the Tanbi ni Kite-ya farmers' market reopened after renovation on March 26, 2026, with fresh vegetables and local specialties. It also reports a new play space for young children in the souvenir shop. The space is most useful for a short pause while shopping.

04

Cherry blossoms along the Hii River in spring; a park and baths at other times

As the station's name suggests, Kisuki is known for its cherry blossoms. In spring, stop before or after visiting the Hii River Embankment Cherry Blossom Rows. Outside blossom season, add Furusato Shakunouchi Park or Orochi Yuttarikan for a break that goes beyond the station.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Just after leaving the Matsue Expressway or before heading toward Okuizumo

Make a Route 54 rest stop in 20–30 minutes

Use the toilet and get a drink first, then look for grilled mackerel sushi or a cherry blossom product at the farmers' market or souvenir shop. The station works best as a comfortable pause before the next destination, rather than a large attraction to tour.

Parking → toilets → Y Shop or shop → depart

The station building, souvenir shop, farmers' market and Y Shop have different hours. For a late arrival, focus on the shop with longer hours.

A meal break from 11:00 through the 14:00 hour

Make lunch taste like Kisuki

Try Izumo soba at the restaurant, then look for grilled mackerel, maitake rice or Kisuki Milk soft serve in the shops. If the restaurant is busy, the shops or snack counter offer more flexibility for your drive.

Parking → restaurant → souvenir shop → farmers' market

The regular menu is listed until 15:00. Later in the day, combine the shops, snacks and Y Shop instead.

A Kisuki visit from late March to early April

Use the station as a base for spring cherry blossoms

On a visit to the Hii River Embankment Cherry Blossom Rows, use the station for toilets, drinks and food. Temporary parking and traffic arrangements near the trees change by year, so leave room in your plan before heading toward Kisuki Station.

Roadside station → Hii River Embankment Cherry Blossom Rows → Negai Bridge → Kisuki Station area

Cherry blossom festival and illumination days are busier than usual. If the blossoms are your main reason for visiting, check the tourism association's latest information.

A rainy or hot day, or a reset before the drive home

Give the children a short break, then head to the baths

Change the pace briefly at the small children's space in the shop or the adjacent park. If everyone still has energy, continue to Orochi Yuttarikan, a facility with baths and a pool where children can unwind after time in the car.

Roadside station → Furusato Shakunouchi Park → Orochi Yuttarikan

Orochi Yuttarikan is generally closed on Wednesdays. Check pool conditions and the age rules for mixed-gender bathing before visiting.

A half-day detour for adults, or a railway and town-walking day

Combine the stop with the Kisuki Line and a town walk

Around Kisuki Station, the Hii River, Negai Bridge, Cheriva Hall and Kisuki Line connect into a town visit. The Ametuchi sightseeing train's 2026 Kisuki Line service is another reason to get food at the roadside station before heading into town.

Roadside station → Kisuki Station area → Negai Bridge or Cheriva Hall

Train and event dates are limited. Check timetables and parking shortly before you go.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★★☆

The multipurpose toilet, baby-changing area and a short shopping stop are useful.

This is not a place designed for a long toddler walk. After parking, make a brief toilet and shop stop, and return to the car as needed.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The children's space and park can relieve boredom while shopping.

Rather than stretching out a visit to the farmers' market or shop, break it up with soft serve or fresh air to help children reset during the drive.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Add one of the cherry blossoms, Hii River, park or baths to the stop.

See the blossom rows in spring, or head toward the baths and pool on rainy or hot days. At Negai Bridge, check the water level and footing, and skip crossing if conditions look unsafe.

Primary school age
★★★★☆

Kisuki's blossoms, the Yamata no Orochi legend and the Kisuki Line offer more to talk about.

Beyond the food, seeing the Hii River and Negai Bridge gives children a sense of the area. Check crowds and schedules ahead on summer festival or train service days.

Use the multipurpose toilet and baby-changing area first

Before or after a long drive, visiting the toilet before the shops can make the stop easier.

Plan to eat before about 15:00

Later, switch to the Y Shop, snacks or takeaway food.

Check crowds near Kisuki Station separately during blossom season

Temporary parking and event routes on the Hii River embankment change.

Avoid Negai Bridge when the river is high or footing is uncertain

It is a low-water crossing; after rain, simply viewing it can be enough.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Highly regarded as a practical stop, rather than a place to linger

Visitor comments often praise the large parking area, toilets and attached convenience shop. The station is best approached as a place to reset between Route 54 and the Matsue Expressway, rather than an all-day complex.

Grilled mackerel, grilled mackerel sushi and Kisuki Milk soft serve stand out

Articles and reviews repeatedly mention grilled mackerel dishes and Kisuki Milk soft serve as characteristic Kisuki foods. Even outside meal hours, you can look in the shops for something to take away.

After the farmers' market renovation, children have a place to pause while shopping

A 2026 update from the tourism association describes the renovated farmers' market and a space for young children. Families can use it for a short pause during a shopping stop.

In spring, pair the station with the Hii River Embankment Cherry Blossom Rows

Kisuki's cherry blossoms are a signature of the area and part of the station's name. At peak bloom, use the station for meals, toilets and shopping, and check parking and traffic arrangements near the blossom rows separately.

Baths and a pool offer an option on rainy or hot days

Orochi Yuttarikan has baths and a pool within an easy drive of the station. When outdoor walking is uncomfortable, you can eat or shop at the station, then finish with a bath.

On event days, distinguish the Kisuki Station area from the roadside station

Cherry blossom festivals, summer festivals and Kisuki Line events tend to center on the Kisuki Station or Hii River area. Plan to use the roadside station as a supply stop on the way there or back, rather than as the event venue.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Opening hours differ for the station building, Y Shop, restaurant, farmers' market and snack counter. If you arrive late, avoid relying on a full meal.
  • During blossom season, check temporary parking, illuminations and events along the Hii River embankment shortly before visiting.
  • Grilled mackerel sushi and farm products depend on deliveries. Leave room to choose from what is available.
  • Before visiting Orochi Yuttarikan, check its Wednesday closure, last admission and pool rules.
  • Negai Bridge is a low-water crossing. After rain or when the river is high, view it instead of crossing.
  • Access from the Matsue Expressway is convenient, but plan separately for crowds near Kisuki Station on event days or during blossom season.
