Toma's rest-stop notes

After parking, head to the back garden first. See the sea and railway before you eat.

Toma Fujishiro sees Yuhi Park Misumi as a small coastal station with clear reasons to stop. After parking and using the toilets, look out over the Sea of Japan and San'in Main Line from the back garden. Then have udon at lunchtime or visit the café if time is short, and finish by choosing Misumi sweets or Kagura goods. A simple route can make either a 20-minute or an hour-long stop rewarding.

Enjoy the sea, railway, snacks, and souvenirs in one easy loop, and your break on National Route 9 becomes part of the journey.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Yuhi Park Misumi (道の駅 ゆうひパーク三隅) is a roadside rest stop on National Route 9 in Misumi, Hamada City, overlooking the Sea of Japan and the JR San'in Main Line. The building is modest in size, but its back garden photo spot, railway corner, Menya Nagomi, ORI'S cafe, and shop selling Misumi yokan and Iwami Kagura goods make even a short stop memorable for its sea views and local flavors. Editor Toma Fujishiro guides drivers through parking, toilets, meal times, sea breezes, and nearby outings so they can use the stop comfortably during a drive.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Step into the back garden to see why this stop is special

Behind the building, you can see the Sea of Japan and the San'in Main Line running along the coast together. If you can wait for a train, make photography the focus; if not, the sea breeze and view toward the sunset still make a break on National Route 9 feel special.

02

Choose udon for a meal or the café for a short break

For lunch, try Sanuki udon at Menya Nagomi. For a quick break or a child's snack, ORI'S cafe offers coffee, waffles, bato fish fry, and fried horse mackerel. The café gives you a lighter option when a full meal does not fit your schedule.

03

A small shop holds plenty of Misumi character

Choose from Murodani terraced-field rice, Misumi yokan (a firm sweet bean jelly), Misumi Kanetsura monaka (crisp wafers filled with sweet bean paste), local sake, and Iwami Kagura goods. This is a good place to take home one reminder of Hamada and Misumi rather than make a large shopping trip.

04

Riders and drivers can park and rest right away

There are parking spaces for standard and large vehicles, and the toilets are available 24 hours. A motorcycle shrine near the parking area adds another stop for riders, making it easy to combine a break, photos, and a snack while traveling National Route 9.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 20–40 minute stop while traveling toward Masuda or Hamada

A sea-view break on National Route 9

After parking, visit the toilets and then head to the back garden on the sea side. See the Sea of Japan and San'in Main Line, take a few photos, and choose Misumi yokan or a drink from the shop. Even without a meal, this route makes the stop memorable.

Parking → toilets → back garden viewpoint → shop → departure

The sea side can be windy. Hold young children's hands, and in the evening avoid lingering too long after sunset.

A day when you pass through Misumi from 11:00 to before 15:00

A seaside lunch with a separate café stop

Have lunch at Menya Nagomi, then stop at ORI'S cafe after eating or while you wait. Going to the sea side after udon lets you enjoy more than the meal. If a child wants a snack first, a waffle or fried snack can help keep the outing on track.

Parking → Menya Nagomi → ORI'S cafe → back garden viewpoint → shop

The shops have different opening hours. If lunch is your goal, allow enough time to arrive before 15:00.

A clear evening when photography or the sea view is the main attraction

A photo break while waiting for sunset and a train

As its name suggests, sunsets are a highlight here. If you can wait for a passing train, enjoy the sea, railway, and evening light together. If the wait looks long, visit the café or shop first and leave before the wind or cold becomes uncomfortable.

Shop and café → back garden viewpoint → photo spot → departure

Sunset and train views depend greatly on weather and timing. Include food or shopping in your plans so the stop remains worthwhile if the photo opportunity does not work out.

A day for spring cherry blossoms or azaleas, a rainy-day museum, or a seaside stroll

A half-day trip to Misumi's seasonal spots

After enjoying the sea and food at the station, add Misumi Ohira-zakura, Misumi Park, or the Sekisho Art Museum to suit the season. Choose flowers in spring, the museum on rainy or hot days, and coastal scenery in summer to turn a roadside break into a longer outing.

Roadside station → Sekisho Art Museum or Misumi Park → Ohira-zakura if in season

Flowering dates and museum closures for exhibition changes vary each year. Check each site's information before departure and leave time to enjoy the places you choose.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Good for a brief nursing, diaper-change, or toilet stop.

Nursing space and a multipurpose toilet are listed. The sea side can be windy, so keep the outdoor part short while carrying your child.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

The photo spot and café offer an easy change of scene.

This is not a place for extended playground time. Short stops at a bench, for a waffle, and to see the sea make the visit easier.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Pop art and a short wait for a train can be fun.

Watching the San'in Main Line is enjoyable, but a long wait can tire children. Add a café or shop visit.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Railways, the sea, Iwami Kagura goods, and nearby flower spots offer plenty to talk about.

Giving children a role, such as taking photos, looking for a train, or choosing a Misumi sweet, makes even a short stop satisfying.

Tourism information lists a flea market on the fourth Saturday of each month. Details may change, so check the facility's latest updates.

Misumi's spring flowers

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The building is small, but the view makes a big impression

Visitor impressions emphasize the Sea of Japan and San'in Main Line views from the back garden more than the building's size. Set aside time for the sea side instead of visiting only the shop.

Sunset is a highlight; mind the wind and the trip after dark

True to its name, the station is especially rewarding in the evening. Coastal wind and cold can affect the visit, so families with children and older visitors may prefer to leave soon after sunset.

The café is a handy option for a short break

ORI'S cafe lists not only coffee and waffles but also bato fish fry and fried horse mackerel. It is useful when the restaurant's hours do not suit you, a child wants a small snack, or you want something before or after taking photos.

Riders can start with the motorcycle shrine

The motorcycle shrine near the parking lot gives riders another reason to break a National Route 9 tour here. A quick circuit of photos, the sea, coffee, and goods makes it feel like a destination.

In spring, extend the stop to Misumi's flowers

Misumi Ohira-zakura and the azaleas at Misumi Park are seasonal spots that can be added by car. During the flowering season, use the station for lunch, toilets, and shopping to make a half-day drive easier.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • If you are coming for lunch, plan an early arrival during Menya Nagomi's 10:30–15:00 hours.
  • For a short break, visit the back garden viewpoint, ORI'S cafe, and shop in that order.
  • Sunset and train photos depend on weather and timing. Include a meal or shopping in your plans as well.

  • The toilets and parking are available 24 hours, while the shop and food outlets operate only during their opening hours.
  • Parking and dining areas get busy on event days. Use the toilets first, then visit the event, and shop last.
