Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Pick up Hatto fruit beside the highway

The Yazu Town Tourism Association describes the shop as a seasonal outlet for local specialties, centered on local fruit alongside vegetables and processed foods. Pear, grape and apple seasons give you a clear reason to stop and shop.

02

A sweet short break at Dontore

Café Dontore inside the station is known for honey soft serve made with honey from its beekeeping owner, French press coffee and its special curry. Soft serve is a soft ice cream served in a cone or cup. You can pause here for a sweet or a coffee as well as a meal.

03

Stretch your legs at the park next door

Hatto General Sports Park borders the roadside station. It has a roller slide, outdoor adventure play equipment and a covered multipurpose plaza. It is close enough to turn a shopping stop into a more active break.

04

Fruit picking and river scenery within walking distance

Hatto Fruit Tourist Farm is close to the station, while Tokumaru Dondo is a natural cascade on the Hatto River. Combine an autumn fruit-picking trip with a short waterside walk, or visit on foot from Tokumaru Station on the Wakasa Railway.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Drives toward Tottori or Wakasa

Make a fruit stop on National Route 29

After parking, look through the fruit and processed foods at the farm shop first. If a seasonal favorite is in stock, buy it before heading to Café Dontore for honey soft serve or coffee. Even a short stop can give you a taste of Hatto.

Parking → farm shop → Dontore → restrooms and road information.

Fruit varies with the weather and arrivals, so check the official social media if you are seeking something specific.

Families on a long drive

Add a park break for the children

If the children need more than a station stop, walk to adjacent Hatto General Sports Park. Its roller slide, outdoor adventure play equipment and covered multipurpose plaza make it easy to add outdoor play to shopping and a restroom break.

Roadside station → Hatto General Sports Park → back for drinks and sweets.

In summer, account for sun exposure; in winter or rain, watch your footing and keep the visit short.

Fruit lovers from late August to around November

Walk on to autumn fruit picking

When Hatto Fruit Tourist Farm is open, check admission and arrival information at the roadside station before going to the farm. During grape, pear and apple seasons, you can experience the fruit close to where you shop for it.

Roadside station → Hatto Fruit Tourist Farm → roadside station for souvenirs.

Fruit varieties, opening days, reservations and last admission times vary by year.

A short walk after a meal

Add a brief waterside stop at Tokumaru Dondo

If you have a little time, head to Tokumaru Dondo, a natural cascade on the Hatto River. The riverbank and nearby mountains provide a change of scene without a long sightseeing detour.

Roadside station → Tokumaru Dondo → back to National Route 29.

Dedicated parking is limited. Follow signs on site and consider the weather before visiting.

Rail enthusiasts and motorcyclists

Combine the Wakasa Railway with a motorcycle detour

The roadside station is within walking distance of Tokumaru Station on the Wakasa Railway and has a corner about the railway and Hayabusa Station. It fits a rail trip as well as a rider's stop toward Hayabusa Station.

Tokumaru Station or National Route 29 → roadside station → toward Hayabusa or Wakasa.

If using public transport, check the limited departures and decide on your return time first.
