A weekend focused on eating and shopping
Arrive before lunch, browse the farm shop, then eat
First browse vegetables, fruit, Narazuke pickles and sweets at Shun no Eki. For a full lunch, try Nakamachi Kitchen; for something lighter, choose fresh warabi mochi or shaved ice at Senju Saryo. Return to the shop after eating to choose what to take home.
Car park → Shun no Eki → Nakamachi Kitchen or Senju Saryo → shop for food to take home
On holiday lunchtimes, restaurant and checkout queues may coincide. Leave time to switch to sweets or food to take away.
A day focused on Tomio Maruyama Tumulus
Take a break at the station before or after walking through the ancient tombs
Check local information at the tourist information center before visiting Tomio Maruyama Tumulus. Public access and viewing conditions vary by date, so using the station for meals, restrooms and information makes it easier to adjust plans. The farm shop and sweets give companions less interested in history another option.
Station → Around Tomio Maruyama Tumulus → Return to station for sweets or shopping
On-site openings and talks may take place only on specified dates. Check Nara City’s latest guidance when visiting for the tumulus.
A short break with toddlers or elementary school children
Let children stretch their legs on a long drive
On a long drive, locate the restrooms and nursing room first. In good weather, head for the play equipment and lawn. On hot or rainy days, use the rest area or kids’ corner in the tourist information center for a short break and keep meal plans flexible.
Parking lot → Toilet/nursing room → Play equipment or indoor break → Sweets or direct sales store
Pets are not allowed on the lawn or in the play area. Plan separate routes when traveling with both dogs and children.
A drive through northwestern Nara with a dog
Check dog run conditions before planning your visit
The dog run is free, with separate use for small dogs and medium or large dogs. Since April 2025, users have needed to register at the tourist information center first. As of August 2026, the artificial-turf and clay areas rotate between dog-size groups. Rain and next-day mud can still make the clay area unusable, so allow time for the farm shop or a café break instead.
Register at the tourist information center → Dog run → Foot washing area → Rest around the terrace
Dogs cannot enter every area. Follow on-site rules for paths, buildings, the lawn and the playground.
A half-day outing for flowers and sweets
Add Ryosenji’s roses in spring or autumn
Ryosenji Temple is a nearby flower stop. Its roses are generally at their best in spring and autumn. Pair the garden with the farm shop or Senju Saryo for a half-day trip. Parking and admission can be busy in flower season, so consider a break at the station before going.
Station → Ryosenji Temple → Senju Saryo or Shun no Eki
Admission and flower-season rates vary. Check Ryosenji’s official information before a flower-focused visit.
A day when you want to go on a short tour and work up a sweat.
Use the cycle station as a base for a short ride
The cycle station has tools, changing rooms, showers and rental bicycles. It has reception hours, so starting in the morning gives more time. After riding past the tumulus, Ryosenji and nearby hills, return for drinks or fruit at the farm shop.
Cycle station → Surrounding area → Shower or changing → Direct sales store
Rental bicycles and showers cost extra and have reception hours. Check the weather, hills and return time first.
