Mountain-road drives toward Nabari, Uda, and Soni
A break with a hot-spring bath along Routes 368 and 369
On a mountain drive, adding Himeshi no Yu to a restroom and drink stop can ease fatigue. Even without a major sightseeing itinerary, a bath, meal, and farm-shop visit can make the station a satisfying stop in itself.
From the Hari or Ueno interchanges on the Meihan Expressway, take Routes 369 and 368 toward Mitsue Village.
Watch for Tuesday and substitute closures. Last admission to the hot spring is around 19:30.
Visitors looking for ingredients, souvenirs, and handmade goods
Shop as a way to take home a little of the village's season
Kaido Ichiba Mitsue is a place to see freshly picked morning vegetables, processed foods, and handicrafts. Depending on the season, shelves may hold spinach, tomatoes, potatoes, Japanese mountain yam, wild greens, rice, pickles, miso, and konnyaku.
Browse the farm shop first and decide how much chilled food or produce to buy before eating or bathing.
It closes around 17:00. If arriving in the evening, shop before bathing.
Hikes among white azaleas, fresh greenery, autumn leaves, or winter frost-covered trees
Return after Mount Miune for a lasting taste of Mitsue
A Mount Miune round-trip hike is about 11 km and takes roughly 4–5 hours. Food can be hard to buy near the trailhead, so prepare beforehand. Back at the station, take time to recover with a bath, meal, and shopping.
Check supplies at the station → trailhead toward Mitsue Youth Travel Village → Himeshi no Yu after descending.
In the winter frost season, check road conditions and bring warm clothing, light crampons, and waterproof footwear.
Primary-school children, outdoor and river play, camping, or a day-trip barbecue
For a day of active children's play, make the Youth Travel Village the main destination
For extended play, reserve a visit to Mitsue Youth Travel Village for river play, a roller slide, bobsleigh, and athletic equipment. Stop at the roadside station on the way back for a bath, restroom, meal, and shopping.
Outdoor play at the Youth Travel Village → bath, meal, and shopping at the roadside station.
Guidance says reservations are needed even for athletic activities or river play alone. Check opening days and rain cancellations too.
Seasonal flowers, a brief nature stop, or a day for photography
Add a short visit to Okada Valley's Hangesho Garden in early July
In Okada Valley, hangesho leaves turn white, making a cool-looking mountain-village scene. The usual viewing period is early to mid-July. After eating and using the restroom at the station, it works well as a short nature walk.
Roadside station → Okada Valley Hangesho Garden → Himeshi no Yu.
Temporary parking during the season is limited. Avoid bringing a large vehicle and follow local guidance.
