How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Check first
Fruit-picking reception status

For same-day visits, rely on the blog's daily capacity information and official guidance. If fruit picking is your main goal, checking before arrival makes planning easier. The official blog and guidance are in Japanese.

For food
Omi beef or gelato

Choose the restaurant for lunch or Berryberry cafe for a lighter stop. When seasonal flavors made with Ryuo-grown fruit are available, a sweet break is particularly rewarding.

For shopping
Dragon-chan and Dragon Mama

Browse vegetables harvested that morning, fruit, rice, Ryuo black soybeans and fried bread with black soybean kinako in one round of shopping.

With children
The animal area and boats on fine days

The animal area may close in rain or bad weather. Swan boats mainly operate on fine days from spring to autumn.

For a nearby outing
Hot springs or the outlet mall

Finish at nearby Gamouno-yu, or add shopping at Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo, to make a half-day outing.

Sakurako's food notes

Pick fruit, choose Omi beef for lunch, and finish with gelato.

Sakurako Asakura sees this station as a gateway to experiencing Ryuo Town's farm produce on the spot, beyond simply shopping at a farm shop. Fruit-picking reception availability, Omi beef at the restaurant, seasonal gelato at the cafe, and bread and vegetables to buy on the way home: a little thought about the order of eating makes even a short stop feel distinctly Ryuo.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Aguri Park Ryuo is an agricultural park offering hands-on activities and opportunities to connect, beside National Route 477 and conveniently reached from Ryuo Interchange on the Meishin Expressway. Browse vegetables harvested that morning and seasonal fruit at Dragon-chan farm shop, try gelato made with Ryuo-grown fruit at Berryberry cafe, then enjoy Omi beef and Omi rice at the restaurant or a barbecue requiring a reservation. With fruit picking, an animal interaction area and swan boats on fine days, combining eating, shopping and a little play brings out the character of this station better than a brief shopping stop alone.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Fruit picking gives each season a different focus

Even the official annual calendar offers a changing range of activities: strawberries, cherries, peaches, grapes, pears, persimmons, sweet potatoes, peanuts, taro and daikon radishes. Reception locations and daily capacity vary by activity. For a fruit-picking trip, check the blog and official information before setting out, rather than planning it like a simple farm-shop stop.

02

Omi beef and Ryuo-grown fruit are the two food highlights

Aguri-chan Restaurant focuses on Omi rice, Omi beef sukiyaki set meals, Omi beef hamburger steaks and Omi beef rice bowls. Berryberry cafe serves gelato, crepes and galettes made with fruit and vegetables from Yamanoue in Ryuo Town. Its galettes use locally grown buckwheat flour. Even without a restaurant meal, a sweet treat gives you a taste of Ryuo.

03

Families can fit in some play within the station grounds

Meet ponies, rabbits, goats, sheep and other animals at the animal interaction area near the Rural Life Museum. Swan boats are another option on fine days from spring to autumn. On a long drive, being able to make separate stops for toilets, food, shopping and a little exercise within the same grounds is a real advantage.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Seasonal trips for peaches, grapes, pears, persimmons, strawberries and more

Spend half a day with fruit picking as the main activity

Check reception availability before entering the station and secure your activity time first. After picking, compare fruit and vegetables from the same season at the farm shop, then head to Berryberry cafe for gelato. This links the fields, the shop and the sweets into one experience.

Check the official blog → Reception → Fruit picking → Farm shop → Cafe

Availability depends on weather, crop growth and daily capacity. Checking the official blog and social media before arrival is especially sensible when you have no reservation.

Lunch for adults and weekend drives focused on shopping

Make a food stop for Omi beef and farm-shop shopping

Have an Omi beef hamburger steak or Omi beef rice bowl at Aguri-chan Restaurant for lunch, or a barbecue requiring a reservation if you have time. After eating, browse Omi rice, Ryuo black soybeans and seasonal fruit at the farm shop, then add bread from Dragon Mama to eat in the car.

Park → Restaurant → Farm shop → Bread workshop → Departure

Omi beef barbecues and the separate traditional sukiyaki experience generally require reservations; the restaurant's sukiyaki set meal is a separate menu item. Even when the restaurant is your main goal, allow time to move on to the farm shop and cafe.

Families with preschool and elementary-school children

Enjoy the agricultural park with children

See ponies and goats at the animal interaction area, try the swan boats on a fine day, and return to the cafe or farm shop during the hottest hours. Short spells of activities, meals, sweets and rest are less tiring for parents and children than spending a long time running around the grounds.

Toilets → Animal area → Cafe or restaurant → Farm shop → Boats

Pets are not allowed in the animal area, which may close in bad weather. Bear strong winds, stormy weather and winter closures in mind for the swan boats. The animal area generally refuses admission within one week of returning from overseas for animal disease prevention; visitors arriving from abroad should check how this rule applies. The boat operator asks pregnant visitors and those who have difficulty walking unaided to refrain from boarding.

Days spent in Ryuo Town until evening

Finish with shopping and a hot-spring bath

After buying fruit, vegetables and bread at the station, drive a few minutes to Gamouno-yu (蒲生野の湯), a natural hot-spring bathing facility. Ending with a bath can make the journey home more comfortable after a sweaty activity day, or when picking up farm produce on the way back from the outlet mall.

Shop at the station → Gamouno-yu → Toward Meishin Expressway Ryuo Interchange

The hot-spring facility generally closes on Thursdays, except public holidays. Farm-shop purchases are vulnerable to the heat inside a car in summer; a cooler bag gives you more shopping options.

Days combined with Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo

Add a taste of Ryuo before or after the outlet mall

An outlet-only trip can miss the local food. Buy fruit and bread at Aguri Park in the morning before heading to the shops, or return before evening for the farm shop and gelato, to leave with a stronger sense of having visited Ryuo Town.

Aguri Park → Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo, or the reverse

Roads around the outlet mall tend to be busy on weekends. If you have a fruit-picking reservation, visiting Aguri Park first makes the schedule easier to judge.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Toilet breaks and short shopping stops are easy to fit in. Outdoor activities depend on the weather.

Heat, rain and conditions underfoot affect how demanding fruit picking and the animal area can be. Carrying a child may sometimes be easier than using a stroller, so keep visits short for comfort.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The animal area, gelato and bread make easy goals for short visits.

Feeding animals can be fun, but handwashing and keeping an appropriate distance matter around them. Fit brief visits to the animal area and sweet breaks around nap time.

Ages 4–6
★★★★★

An age group likely to enjoy fruit picking, animals and boats.

Harvest activities offer the fun of picking things themselves. Consider summer sunshine and winter cold outdoors, and leave room to return to the cafe or farm shop.

Elementary-school children
★★★★★

Farming activities, including rice growing, are easier to understand at this age.

Rice planting and harvesting, fruit picking and comparing varieties at the farm shop help connect food with the local area. Combine the station with the outlet mall or hot springs to make a full day.

Spaces used for events

Seasonal fruit picking and harvest activities

As checked on July 16, 2026, the official homepage listed peach picking, corn picking, blueberry picking, potato digging and other activities. Same-day capacity can change, so check the official blog and social media before setting out to keep your itinerary on track.

Swan boats on fine days

The usual schedule is weekends and public holidays from mid-March to mid-November. Daily operation during the summer school holidays is not confirmed; check the official schedule before planning a weekday boat ride. Boats close in strong winds, stormy weather and winter, so plan outdoor play around the weather.

Ground golf course and dog run temporarily closed

As checked on July 16, 2026, the official homepage announced that the ground golf course and dog run were closed until further notice because of fallen trees. Check updated official notices if you plan to bring a dog or play ground golf.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Daily fruit-picking capacity can shape your itinerary

The official homepage and blog advise visitors without reservations to check daily capacity. Visitor-review trends also suggest that fruit-picking visits are particularly affected by season and crowds, making advance checks more valuable here than at a station offering only a restaurant and farm shop.

Omi beef for meals and fruit for sweets

The restaurant centers on Omi beef and Ryuo-grown Omi rice, while the cafe focuses on gelato made with Yamanoue fruit and vegetables. Deciding first between a substantial lunch and a lighter stop for sweets and shopping makes your stay easier to plan, whether with children or adults only.

Look for morning-harvested vegetables, fruit, rice and black soybeans at the farm shop

Dragon-chan sells local farmers' vegetables, strawberries, grapes, peaches, pears, persimmons and other fruit, as well as Ryuo-grown rice and Ryuo black soybeans. Even without fruit picking, the farm shop alone gives you a sense of the changing seasons.

Weather makes a big difference to outdoor enjoyment

The animal interaction area may close in rain or bad weather, and swan boats generally operate only on fine days. Consider summer sunshine and winter cold, and plan a return to the cafe, farm shop or Rural Life Museum for a more comfortable visit.

Pick up farm produce on the way back from the outlet mall

Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo is a short drive away. Even on a shopping-focused day, adding the farm shop and gelato on the way home lets you take Ryuo Town's food with you. Allow for busy weekend roads; if you have a fruit-picking reservation, visiting the station first is the safer plan.

End the day at hot springs within walking distance

Gamouno-yu is close to the station, making it easy to move on to a hot-spring bath after working up a sweat with activities or shopping. It generally closes on Thursdays, except public holidays, so check its opening days alongside the station's Monday closure when planning to finish with a bath.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Fruit picking and harvest activities vary with crop growth, weather and daily capacity. If you have no reservation, check the official blog's guidance before setting out.
  • August is advertised as open every day, while the usual closure is Monday, or the next weekday if Monday is a public holiday. Follow the opening calendar when visiting around Monday.
  • As checked on July 16, 2026, the ground golf course and dog run were reported closed because of fallen trees.
  • Plan Omi beef barbecues and traditional sukiyaki on the assumption that reservations are needed.
  • When buying fruit, meat or bread at the farm shop, be mindful of summer temperatures inside the car. A cooler bag makes the journey home easier.
  • If combining the station with Meishin Expressway Ryuo Interchange or Mitsui Outlet Park Shiga Ryuo, decide the order of stops allowing for busy weekend roads.
