How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

See first
Views of Sunset Bridge and Kahoku Lagoon

If the weather is clear, start with the outdoor view. In the evening, you may have time for a viewpoint or the illuminated bridge.

For a meal
Light meals at Horita PICNIC

The light-meal menu lists 11:00–18:00, with last orders at 17:00; station hours are shorter on weekdays in January and February. Items can sell out, so sweets or takeaway are alternatives during the lunch rush.

For sweets
Kahoku Lagoon fresh-milk soft serve and cakes

A way to enjoy a taste of Uchinada even on a short stop. As a guide, reserve cakes by 12:00 noon the previous day.

With children
Get ready at the station, then visit the general park or coast

Eat and use the restrooms at the station before heading outside to play. Switch to Honobono-yu in heavy rain or heat.

With more time
Hot spring, coast, or Minikuru

If you have half a day, add one of the panoramic hot spring, Uchinada Beach, or an electric mini-car tour for more of Uchinada.

Akari’s stopover notes

After eating, choose the bridge, sea, or hot spring.

Akari Ichinose sees this station as a useful place to adjust a family outing as well as a sunset viewpoint. Start with restrooms and a meal, then sweets; after that, choose the general park, coast, or Honobono-yu according to the children’s energy and the weather. Leaving time to explore beyond the station brings out more of Uchinada.

After taking in the bridge view, it helps to be able to choose a playground or hot spring according to the children’s energy.

Highlights

Michi no Eki Uchinada Sunset Park is a hilltop roadside station on the way from Kanazawa toward Noto, with views of Sunset Bridge Uchinada and Kahoku Lagoon. Stop briefly for light meals at Horita PICNIC, soft serve made with fresh milk from the Kahoku Lagoon area, cakes, local vegetables, and Ishikawa souvenirs. With more time, visit the Lovers’ Sanctuary viewpoint, Honobono-yu panoramic hot spring, Uchinada Beach, or an electric mini-car tour. With children, eating and using the restrooms here before moving on to outdoor play or the hot spring makes the day easier.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A hilltop station for bridge and waterside views

The Uchinada Town Tourism Association describes views from this station stretching to the Sea of Japan, Kahoku Lagoon, and the Hakusan and Tateyama mountain ranges. On a clear day, pause with Sunset Bridge Uchinada in view; in the evening or when the bridge is illuminated, continue to a nearby viewpoint for the sunset scenery that gives the station its name.

02

Plan a meal at Horita PICNIC and sweets at Horita205

Light meals, boxed meals, sweets, cakes, and soft serve made with fresh milk from the Kahoku Lagoon area are available at the station. Choose a charcoal-grilled chicken rice bowl or curry for lunch, soft serve or an ice pop for a short stop, or a reserved cake to pick up before heading home.

03

With children, continue from the station to a park or hot spring

The station is useful for restrooms, food, sweets, parking, and access to nearby places, rather than large playground equipment. On a fine day, move on to the general park or coast; in rain or heat, switch to Honobono-yu to suit the family’s energy.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 30–45 minute driving break

Take a short break before driving from Kanazawa toward Noto

After parking, visit the restroom, take in the outdoor view, then get a soft serve or cake from Horita205 and browse the shop. Even without a full meal, Kahoku Lagoon fresh-milk soft serve or takeaway makes this stop distinctive.

Park → Restroom → View the bridge and Kahoku Lagoon → Sweets or shopping → Depart

Since June 1, 2026, weekday opening is generally at 10:00. For an earlier stop, plan a break rather than a visit to the shops.

A family lunch break and short walk

Have lunch and sweets at the station, then enjoy the bridge view

Have a light meal at Horita PICNIC, share soft serve or cake afterward, then go to the viewpoint or Lovers’ Sanctuary at Uchinada Town General Park. If children want to move around, heading outdoors is more natural than staying at the station.

Lunch at the station → Sweets at Horita205 → Uchinada Town General Park and viewpoint

Boxed meals cannot be held for pickup on weekends, public holidays, or in busy periods, and meals may sell out before last orders. Keep another lunch option in mind.

Families with children, three generations, or an evening break

Finish a rainy or hot day at Honobono-yu panoramic hot spring

Have a light meal and shop at the station, then drive a few minutes to Honobono-yu. Views of Kahoku Lagoon and the mountains from the baths offer a way to enjoy Uchinada’s scenery even when outdoor play is difficult.

Station → Honobono-yu → Journey home

Honobono-yu is generally closed on the first Tuesday of each month, December 31, and January 1. Check the facility’s information for admission fees and temporary closures.

A half-day outing

Make the coast or an electric mini-car tour the focus of a sunny day

Use the station as a meeting, meal, and check-in point before Uchinada Beach or a guided Minikuru tour. Get out of the car to experience the sea breeze, dunes, Kahoku Lagoon, and metasequoia-lined roads.

Station → Minikuru reception or Uchinada Beach → Sweets at the station

Minikuru mainly operates on weekends and public holidays, closes in winter, and may cancel in bad weather. At the coast, watch for summer crowds, wind, sand, and jellyfish reports from mid-August onward.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Suited to a short stop for feeding, diaper changes, and meals; longer outdoor play depends on the weather.

Use the station for restrooms and food, then switch to Honobono-yu or travel by car in heat or rain. Avoid the coast or viewpoint on very windy days.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Sweets and a short walk work well, but the station is not a place for extended play.

Make soft serve or a light meal a small goal, then go to the general park for active play. Hold hands when moving between the parking area and road.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Combine food, bridge views, the general park, and the coast to keep the day varied.

Have lunch at the station before the viewpoint or coast to break up time in the car. Bring water and prepare for sand in summer.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Choose from the sea, bridge, electric mini-cars, and hot spring.

Minikuru requires an ordinary driver’s license, so driving is for adults; the scenery along its circuit can still be a highlight of a family trip. Changes at the coast and Kahoku Lagoon through the seasons offer talking points too.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Change in opening hours from June 1, 2026

An official notice changes both the shop and dining hours to 10:00–18:00 on weekdays, 9:00–18:00 on weekends and public holidays, and 10:00–17:00 on weekdays in January and February. Check the day of the week when planning a morning visit.

50th Uchinada Town Summer Festival

The festival was scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, 15:30–20:30 at Renko Nagisa Park, with stalls, food trucks, children’s activities, and fireworks. That date was expected to bring extra traffic and parking demand near the station.

Spring Oyster Festival and autumn Kōkyō Festival

The March 2026 Oyster Festival has ended, but it shows how the outdoor event space is used; watch for news of a future edition. Parking restrictions applied during the 2025 Kōkyō Festival, so check notices shortly before any autumn evening event.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The views become more memorable as you venture beyond the station

Official tourism information describes views around the station over the Sea of Japan, Kahoku Lagoon, the Hakusan and Tateyama mountain ranges, and Sunset Bridge. Continue to a viewpoint or see the bridge illuminated to make more of the visit.

Allow for sellouts and last orders for light meals

Horita PICNIC lists 17:00 as last order for light meals, warns that items can sell out, and does not hold boxed meals for pickup on weekends, public holidays, or busy days. At weekend lunch, leave room to switch to soft serve or takeaway.

Weekday mornings changed in June 2026

An official notice moved weekday opening to 10:00 from June 1, 2026. For an early drive, plan on a short restroom, parking, and view stop rather than visiting the shops.

Summer fun at the coast comes with precautions

A swimming beach opens at Uchinada Beach in summer, and marine sports are popular. Official tourism information also mentions jellyfish from mid-August onward and cancellations due to weather. Before heading to the sea, get drinks and sweets at the station and prepare for sand and wind.

The hot spring offers an option for rain or an evening break

Honobono-yu is a panoramic hot spring overlooking Kahoku Lagoon and the mountains. The town provides its admission fees, hours, and closure days. A bath adds a Uchinada-style break even when outdoor views are limited.

Rice bowls, curry, and lunch plates at Horita PICNIC

The menu lists 11:00–18:00, with last orders at 17:00; check shorter station hours on weekdays in January and February. Make this your main stop if the family wants to sit down to eat.
