Akari Nanjo's suggested order

Eat, shop, and soak. Slow down here before hurrying to Noto's coast

This station does not have a sweeping scenic view on its doorstep. But korogaki soft serve, Shika's vegetables and seafood at the market, and, if time allows, the hot spring or pool set you up well for a Noto drive.

Morning

Visit the market first. Fresh produce and popular goods are easier to choose earlier in the day.

Midday

Add Shi-on's restaurant or hot spring to make the most of a rainy day without abandoning your plans.

Late afternoon

Stop for something sweet before Masuho-ga-ura or Ganmon, then continue toward the coast.

Highlights

At Michi-no-Eki Korogaki no Sato Shika, the main draw is Shunsaikan, a direct-sales market with sweets made from Shika's specialty korogaki (dried persimmons), freshly picked vegetables from local growers, seafood, and grilled kakimochi rice cakes. The adjoining Aqua Park Shi-on has a natural hot spring, heated pool, restaurant, and rest area, turning a short shopping stop on National Route 249 into a half-day visit with children or on a rainy day. Near Nishiyama Interchange on the Noto Satoyama Kaido, it is a useful stop before or after Masuho-ga-ura Beach and Ganmon: try korogaki soft serve and shop for local produce at the start of your trip. Guide Akari Nanjo recommends it as a place to load up on Shika's sweetness and foods for the table before setting off for Noto's sea.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Taste korogaki sweetness at the start of your trip

The Shika Town Tourism Association highlights sweets and processed products made with korogaki, the town's dried persimmons, as well as korogaki soft serve among Shunsaikan's popular offerings. The town's dried-persimmon character comes through in a sweet break as well as in shopping.

02

A market that serves as Shika's pantry

Shunsaikan stocks vegetables supplied by local growers, seafood, folk crafts, grilled kakimochi rice cakes, and grilled arare rice crackers. You can shop for dinner at home as well as souvenirs.

03

Turn a break into half a day at the hot spring and pool

Aqua Park Shi-on at the roadside station has a natural hot spring, heated pool, restaurant, and rest area. It gives you an indoor option on rainy or hot days, or when children need room to move.

04

A handy stop near Nishiyama Interchange on the way to Noto's coast

Near Nishiyama Interchange on the Noto Satoyama Kaido, the station is well placed for Masuho-ga-ura Beach, Ganmon, and Alice-kan Shika. Choose sweets and the market for a short stop, or add the hot spring or coast if you have more time.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 30-minute break before or after Nishiyama Interchange

Make a short stop count with korogaki soft serve and the market

Start at Shunsaikan for korogaki soft serve and processed foods, then choose vegetables, seafood, and grilled kakimochi rice cakes. With Shika's sweets and everyday foods close together, even a short stop feels worthwhile.

Park → Shunsaikan → korogaki sweets → restrooms and tourist information.

The market selection changes with the season and time of day. Morning is a safer bet for fresh produce.

Families and bad weather

Switch to Shi-on's hot spring and pool on a rainy day

When outdoor sightseeing is uncertain, make Aqua Park Shi-on at the roadside station your main stop. Its natural hot spring, heated pool, restaurant, and rest area can make a shorter coastal walk feel like a full outing.

Shunsaikan → Shi-on reception → pool or hot spring → meal and rest.

Check admission hours and fees for the pool, restaurant, and hot spring before leaving.

A sunny coastal drive

Add a sunset and shell collecting at Masuho-ga-ura Beach

After sweets and shopping at Shunsaikan, head to Masuho-ga-ura Beach. Its white sand and pines, the World's Longest Bench, and the winter winds that wash shells ashore offer different reasons to visit in each season.

Roadside station → Masuho-ga-ura Beach → World's Longest Bench.

Strong winter winds and summer bathers change how you can enjoy the beach.

A scenic drive for adults

Continue to Ganmon for the drama of Noto Kongo

If you have time, shop at the station and continue to Ganmon. Sightseeing boats depend on the weather, so check operations before choosing between a walk on land and a view from the water.

Roadside station → Ganmon → Noto Kongo sightseeing boat information office.

Boat trips may be suspended in strong winds, high waves, or poor visibility.

Families with elementary school children

Add Alice-kan Shika for learning and outdoor play

For children of elementary school age and up, energy exhibits and outdoor grounds at Alice-kan Shika add another dimension to a day of hot springs and shopping. Choose between the pool and an educational detour according to the weather and children's ages.

Roadside station → Alice-kan Shika → Shi-on or homeward journey.

Check opening days, events, and availability of outdoor play equipment.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under

Avoid busy times and arrange the car temperature and a place for your bags first.

Ages 2–3

Korogaki soft serve, a short shopping stop, and Shi-on's toddler pool as a possible option can provide a change of pace.

For the pool, check admission hours, what to bring, and the rest area.

This is an age when you can more easily add the heated pool, sweets, and possible outdoor play at Alice-kan Shika.

Switch between the coast on a sunny day and Shi-on in the rain to keep plans flexible.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The market offers more choice earlier in the day

An account of a visit notes that people sometimes queue before opening even on weekdays, and that weekends and holidays can bring crowds and sellouts by midday. If vegetables and other fresh goods are your goal, visiting before sightseeing rather than afterward can make shopping more rewarding.

May to October brings a stronger sense of the vegetable season

The same account identifies May through October as a period when many vegetables are available. Shunsaikan operates year-round, but shopping from early summer through autumn can be especially enjoyable if you want the full feel of a produce market.

Korogaki soft serve can anchor a short break

The tourism association highlights sweets, processed foods, and soft serve made with korogaki, Shika's dried persimmons, among Shunsaikan's popular products. Even without time for a meal, this treat offers a taste of the town.

The hot spring and pool offer a strong rainy-day option

Shi-on has a natural hot spring, heated pool, restaurant, and rest area. Wind and rain can change the experience of Noto's coast, so an indoor place to spend time on the same grounds offers reassurance.

Sea conditions shape a visit to Ganmon

Noto Kongo Sightseeing Boats says trips may be canceled in strong winds, high waves, or poor visibility. If you drive from the station to Ganmon, plan for a walk on land or a switch to Masuho-ga-ura as well as a possible cruise.

Masuho-ga-ura offers different experiences in summer and winter

Masuho-ga-ura Beach offers swimming, marine sports, sunsets, and the World's Longest Bench. From November to March, seasonal winds wash shells ashore. It is worth a short winter walk as well as a summer beach visit.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Shunsaikan closes at different times on weekdays and weekends or holidays. Visit toward the morning for more choice of fresh produce and popular goods.
  • Shunsaikan closes on Tuesdays and over the New Year holidays. Check the day before making the market and sweets your reason for visiting.
  • Aqua Park Shi-on has different admission times and use conditions for its hot spring, heated pool, and restaurant. Check official guidance if you plan to stay longer.
  • For Masuho-ga-ura or Ganmon, wind, waves, and an evening chill affect comfort. A jacket and shoes suitable for walking help even on a short coastal visit.
  • An RV park stay is separate from ordinary rest-stop parking. Check the number of spaces, check-in, consecutive-stay rules, and pet rules in advance.
  • Road and facility conditions on the Noto Peninsula may change with disaster recovery work and the seasons. If traveling from far away, check Shika Town Tourism Association's operating updates too.
