How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Shop first
Mizuiro Marche

Start with Kurobe vegetables, processed foods and fish from Toyama Bay. When choosing perishables, consider when you will get home and how to keep them cool.

Choose lunch
Food court

Try Tsubaki Shokudo for rice bowls or set meals, Family Kitchen Kamome for Western-style dishes, or Menya Hanato for ramen. For a lighter bite, head to Neritenya.

Stop for sweets
crepe de cocon

Crepes made with Kurobe rice flour. The shop closes Wednesdays, so check the day if sweets are your main reason for visiting.

For play
Waterside area and bouncy dome

On a fine day, try the waterside area, bouncy dome and slide on the landscaped hill. Spare clothes and a towel make the stay easier.

To finish
FUROBAKKA

After eating and shopping at the station, visit the neighboring bathhouse to turn your Kurobe drive into a half-day outing.

Akari's stopover notes

Have lunch, shop for Kurobe vegetables, then unwind beside the water.

Akari Kuramochi sees this station as a place to choose Kurobe foods, beyond a large rest stop. Have a rice bowl or set meal, grab fried fish cakes for a lighter bite, give children a break with crepes, or buy dinner ingredients at the farm shop. The range of food choices also gives you options when one shop is busy.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki KOKO Kurobe, a roadside station on National Route 8 (the Nyuzen–Kurobe Bypass), brings together Kurobe-grown vegetables and processed foods, fish from Toyama Bay, local specialties and children's play areas. For a meal, choose from Tsubaki Shokudo, Family Kitchen Kamome and Menya Hanato in the food court, freshly fried fish cakes at Neritenya, or crepes made with Kurobe rice flour at crepe de cocon. For shopping, visit the farm shop Mizuiro Marche and Koraretto for Unazuki beer and souvenirs. With an indoor kids' floor, an outdoor bouncy dome and waterside area, you can eat, shop and play a little during a weekend drive; if you have more time, continue to neighboring FUROBAKKA or Sakana no Eki Ikuji.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Choose among food court meals, snacks, crepes and farm shops

Inside are the food court's Tsubaki Shokudo, Family Kitchen Kamome and Menya Hanato, Neritenya's freshly fried fish cakes, and crepes from crepe de cocon. You can also shop at Mizuiro Marche and Koraretto. This stop works whether you want a full lunch, ingredients for dinner or just something sweet.

02

Kurobe's waterside and play areas make a driving break last longer

The waterside area, bouncy dome, slide on a landscaped hill and indoor kids' floor give children room to move. On hot days you can head for the water; in rain or snow, switch to the indoor kids' floor and a meal.

03

Nearby places are easy to add to your visit

You can extend your stop to neighboring FUROBAKKA, Kurobe City General Park within walking distance, or Sakana no Eki Ikuji and Yoshida Science Museum a short drive away. End a meal with a bath, buy fish near the coast or visit the museum on a rainy day for an easy half-day outing.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 45–75 minute driving break

Extend a Route 8 lunch break into a shopping stop

After parking and using the restroom, look for local foods at Mizuiro Marche. Choose a rice bowl or set meal at Tsubaki Shokudo, or a lighter bite at Neritenya. Add a snack for the ride home, and the stop becomes more than a meal.

Parking → restrooms → Mizuiro Marche → Tsubaki Shokudo or Neritenya → Koraretto

Lunch and sweets tend to peak together at weekends. Having several meal options makes the visit easier than aiming for just one restaurant.

Families with preschool and elementary-school children

Waterside play for children, farm shopping and sweets for adults

On a fine day, let the children move around the waterside plaza or bouncy dome, with a break for crepes or bread. Adults can take turns browsing the farm shop, so different interests in food and play fit into one stop.

Waterside area and bouncy dome → sweets and bread → Koraretto → departure

Bring spare clothes, a towel and sun protection for waterside play. In rain or snow, favor indoor breaks and the nearby science museum.

A day to compare fish and local products

Shop for Kurobe foods, then head toward the sea

After looking at vegetables, sweets and snacks at KOKO Kurobe, continue to Sakana no Eki Ikuji for shopping near Kurobe's coast. If buying seafood, a cooler bag helps you combine the farm shop and fresh fish without rushing.

KOKO Kurobe → Sakana no Eki Ikuji → a short tour of Ikuji's spring-water sites

The selection of fresh fish and prepared foods changes with the time of day. Late morning to early afternoon generally offers more choice than late evening.

An adult weekend drive

Add a bath for a half-day outing

After eating and shopping, head next door to FUROBAKKA. Its sauna and large baths offer a rest stop on the way back from the Kurobe Gorge or the coast.

Lunch and farm shopping at the station → FUROBAKKA → return journey

Bathhouse closures, crowding and sauna conditions may change; check the official information if it is your main destination.

A family drive when the weather is uncertain

Link indoor activities and the science museum on a rainy day

Spend a short time at the station's farm shop, food court and kids' floor, then move to Yoshida Science Museum when outdoor play is difficult. Its planetarium and exhibits give the day more to offer than a meal alone.

Mizuiro Marche → kids' floor → Yoshida Science Museum

The science museum has closing days and planetarium showtimes; check them in advance, especially when rain is forecast.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★★☆

Easy to combine nursing, diaper changes and an indoor break.

Instead of making outdoor play the focus, keep the stop short for restrooms, nursing, bread or sweets. For summer waterside visits, plan for sun exposure and spare clothes.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The waterside and lawn offer active play, but children this age need close supervision.

The waterside plaza and little hill are fun, but children can get wet or run off. Bring spare clothes and supervise them closely; keep a quick meal option in mind.

Ages 4–6
★★★★★

A good combination of the bouncy dome, lawn, water and sweets.

A little play before eating, then crepes or bread for a break, can set an easy pace for the day. In bad weather, switch to the kids' floor or science museum.

Elementary-school children
★★★★★

Extend the day to play areas, a bathhouse, science museum or fish market.

There is enough to play with at the station, but for a half-day outing add FUROBAKKA, Kurobe City General Park, Yoshida Science Museum or Sakana no Eki Ikuji to suit your plans.

Waterside play day

A towel, spare clothes, sandals and sun protection will make the visit more comfortable.

Rainy day

Use the indoor food court, kids' floor and Mizuiro Marche, or visit nearby Yoshida Science Museum to keep your plans flexible.

Stroller

The building is easy to move around, though in crowded retail aisles watch the width and children's hands. Wheelchairs are available for loan at the information counter.

Visiting with a dog

Pet rules could not be confirmed on the official website. For dining and shopping, plan for companions to take turns and follow signs and staff guidance on the day.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Bouncy dome and waterside area

A main draw for families on fine days. The waterside is especially appealing in summer, but sun exposure and spare clothes affect how long you can stay. The waterside area may be closed all day for cleaning.

Kids' floor

An indoor option in rain, snow or intense heat. A short visit paired with eating or shopping is easy to plan.

Outdoor stage and plaza

Used for markets, music and seasonal events. On event days, allow for busier parking and meal times.

Disaster preparedness facilities

An evacuation and support site linked to the disaster preparedness functions of neighboring Kurobe City General Park, with emergency power, a supply warehouse and a water storage tank.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

With many food choices, pick your main meal first

The official dining directory lists Tsubaki Shokudo, Family Kitchen Kamome, Menya Hanato, Neritenya and crepe de cocon. On a holiday lunchtime, comparing every option can take time; deciding whether you want a rice bowl, noodles, a light snack or sweets makes the stop easier.

Use the farm shop with your dinner table in mind

Mizuiro Marche sells local vegetables and processed foods, as well as fish from Toyama Bay. Bring a cooler bag when buying perishables during a drive; if you also visit Sakana no Eki Ikuji, you can choose vegetables here and seafood closer to the coast.

For families, play before or after eating changes the pace of the drive

The waterside plaza, bouncy dome, lawn and kids' floor make this more than a restroom stop. For summer waterside play, think about spare clothes and sun exposure. In winter or rain, plan an indoor option or a nearby attraction to keep the day flexible.

A neighboring bathhouse makes a longer break for adults

FUROBAKKA is a bathhouse next to the roadside station. After a meal and shopping, you can visit its baths to rest on the way back from Kurobe Gorge or the coast.

Event days change how busy the plaza and dining areas feel

Official notices announce markets, seasonal activities, music, and cleaning or waterside updates. Events can change the usual lunch and parking flow, so an earlier or lighter meal and one shopping priority may make the visit easier.

The coast, science museum and park nearby give you weather options

Kurobe City General Park is within walking distance; Sakana no Eki Ikuji and Yoshida Science Museum are a short drive away. Combine the park and water on a fine day, shop for fish near the coast, or switch to the museum in rain or winter.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Eateries have different hours and closing days: crepe de cocon closes Wednesdays, Neritenya Thursdays, and Menya Hanato closes at 15:00 on Tuesdays. If lunch is the main purpose of your visit, check the official shop information and notices for the day.
  • For summer waterside play, bring spare clothes, a towel and sun protection. The area can close all day for cleaning, so check official notices.
  • Bring a cooler bag when buying fresh produce or seafood, especially if combining Mizuiro Marche with Sakana no Eki Ikuji.
  • Snow and road conditions can change travel times in Hokuriku's winter. On winter evenings, avoid adding too many nearby stops and head back early.
  • Events change the usual peaks for the outdoor plaza, parking and meals. If you are only shopping, consider visiting at a different time.
  • If you plan to visit the neighboring bathhouse or science museum, check their official guidance for closure days, last admission and planetarium times.
  • The station announced that its two EV chargers have been out of service since 18:00 on September 20, 2026, due to a fault, with no restoration date announced. If arriving by EV, check the official notices for an update before relying on them.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Illustrative image — not an on-site photograph
A substantial lunch

Tsubaki Shokudo, Family Kitchen Kamome

For a relaxed meal of rice bowls, set meals or Western-style dishes. At the food court, companions can each choose something different.

These food court shops open 10:00–19:30 (last orders 19:00). On holidays, arriving before or after the lunch rush may be easier.

A quick meal

Menya Hanato, Neritenya

For ramen or freshly fried fish cakes during a drive along National Route 8.

Menya Hanato closes at 15:00 on Tuesdays; Neritenya closes on Thursdays.

A sweet break

crepe de cocon

For dessert after a meal or a break with children. The crepe batter combines Kurobe rice flour with wheat flour from Toyama Prefecture.

Closed every Wednesday.

Buy ingredients for dinner

Mizuiro Marche's local vegetables, processed foods and fish from Toyama Bay

Choose vegetables or prepared foods to use when you get home. In summer, bring a cooler bag; in winter, allow for the journey home if there is snow.

Take a taste of Kurobe home

Koraretto's Unazuki beer, specialty products and original goods

For local Kurobe beer and souvenirs. When buying gifts for others, check shelf life and whether they can be stored at room temperature.

Event day

Outdoor stalls, seasonal products and markets

Events in the plaza add choices beyond the usual shops. On a crowded day, a lighter meal and one main shopping goal can make the visit easier.
