How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Start here
Unazuki Shokusaikan

The year-round shop makes a quick stop easy: choose Unazuki Beer, beer curry, Kurobe Meisui Malt Barley Tea, Toyama sake, and souvenirs.

For a meal
Beer Hall restaurant or rice balls

From spring to autumn, the restaurant offers a lunch buffet; the rice-ball kitchen serves light meals made with Kurobe rice. Service changes in winter.

For shopping
Craft beer and something from Kurobe

Drivers can take beer away to enjoy later; passengers, or visitors staying overnight, can fit a tasting into the trip.

For a rainy day
Yugakukan and the hot spring

See historical exhibits at neighboring Unazuki Yugakukan, then head to the public bath in Unazuki Onsen town for a plan less dependent on the weather.

Add by season
Trolley train, farm, and fireworks

From spring to autumn, consider the gorge or farm; in winter, look for fireworks in the hot spring town. The operating rail section and snow conditions change the experience.

Akari's detour notes

Before rushing to Unazuki, decide here what to eat and what to take home.

This station feels like a small preparation room before the hot spring town. Beyond craft beer, rice balls, barley tea, curry, muffins, and Toyama souvenirs give drivers and children things to enjoy too. Sort out a break, toilets, shopping, and the next detour here, and the time in Unazuki may feel less rushed.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Unazuki centers on Unazuki Beer Hall and Unazuki Shokusaikan, where you can find craft beer brewed with Kurobe water, rice balls made with Kurobe rice, and Toyama souvenirs. It lies on the way to Unazuki Onsen from the Kurobe interchange or Kurobe-Unazukionsen Station. For a short stop, use the shop and toilets; with time for lunch, try the restaurant or rice balls; for a longer visit, add the neighboring Unazuki Yugakukan, Unazuki Onsen, or Kurobe Farm. Food service days vary by season and weekday, so make the shop your reliable stop and keep meal plans flexible.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Kurobe water and barley come through in both shopping and dining

Unazuki Beer is built around underground water from the Kurobe River and locally grown barley. Beer curry, malt barley tea, muffins, sake, and Kurobe rice balls also let families take home local flavors without making the visit solely about drinking.

02

A practical rest stop before Unazuki Onsen

Before reaching the hot spring town from the Kurobe interchange or Kurobe-Unazukionsen Station, you can stop here for parking and toilets. It is a useful place to choose lunch, a snack, or souvenirs before continuing.

03

Neighboring Yugakukan gives a rainy day another purpose

Unazuki Yugakukan, with a library and a history and folklore museum, is very close to the roadside station. Exhibits about the Aimoto Hanebashi bridge and the Kurobe River basin reveal a side of Unazuki beyond its hot springs and gorge.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short break before Unazuki Onsen

For just 20 minutes, visit the shop and toilets first

After parking, make a quick loop through the toilets and Unazuki Shokusaikan, then return to the car. If buying chilled goods or alcohol, decide whether to shop before going into the hot spring town or on the way back.

Parking → toilets → Unazuki Shokusaikan → departure.

Avoid drinking and driving: save the craft beer for your lodging or home.

Families, multiple generations, and lunch-focused drives

If staying for lunch, have two meal options

Make the restaurant lunch buffet your first choice, but on crowded days or when hours change, be ready to switch to the rice-ball kitchen, shop snacks, or eateries in the nearby hot spring town.

Check restaurant service → eat → buy souvenirs at Shokusaikan → Yugakukan or the hot spring town.

Restaurant and rice-ball kitchen opening days change with the season and weekday. Check official notices if lunch is the main reason for your visit.

A day when you want to avoid weather-dependent plans

On a rainy day, pair Yugakukan with the public bath

After shopping at the roadside station, walk to Unazuki Yugakukan for the history of the Kurobe River and Unazuki. Drive on to the hot spring town for a break at Yumedokoro Unazuki, even if you have little time for outdoor walking.

Roadside station → Unazuki Yugakukan → Yumedokoro Unazuki.

Yugakukan closes on Mondays, the day after public holidays, the last Thursday of each month, and other dates.

Children, scenery, and a half-day drive

On a clear day, continue to the farm or gorge

For elementary school children and older, Kurobe Farm offers views and animals; train fans can head to the Kurobe Gorge Railway trolley train. In 2026, the operating section is restricted until September 30, so plan around a turnback trip before the announced full-line restart.

Roadside station → Kurobe Farm, or Unazuki Station and the Kurobe Gorge Railway.

The farm road has sharp bends and slopes. The trolley train's reachable section changes with season and restoration work.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Useful for toilets, a baby changing station, and a short shopping stop.

Short bursts of shopping and rest in the car may be easier than a long meal.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Rice balls and malt barley tea offer approachable food and drink.

Do not count on a large play area inside the station; on a rainy day, shift to Yugakukan, or on a clear day, to the farm.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Move between rice balls, choosing souvenirs, and a short Yugakukan exhibit before children lose interest.

Restaurant visits depend on opening days and crowds. If the wait looks long, switch to a snack.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

It is easy to link learning and play through Kurobe water and barley, the trolley train, farm, and bridge history.

If adding the trolley train or farm, check ride duration and the strain of the mountain road first.

Toilets and baby changing station

Kurobe City's tourism information lists a baby changing station, wheelchair-accessible toilet, ramp, and other facilities.

An indoor fallback

Combine the shop, restaurant, and neighboring Unazuki Yugakukan for a short rainy-day visit.

Outdoor play

For a longer play stop, continue to Kurobe Farm or a walk in Unazuki Onsen town.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
    Choose where to park first

Use the shop and toilets in the closest practical order, then return to the car before shopping bags grow heavy.

  2. 2
Choose a meal after checking the service format

Keep the restaurant, a light meal, and the shop as options to avoid extra walking if an outlet is closed or crowded.

  3. 3
Continue to the hot spring town, or take a short break at Yugakukan

Depending on weather and energy, choose nearby Yugakukan on foot or drive to the public bath.

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Neighboring Yugakukan supports a short rainy-day visit

After shopping or eating, walk to Unazuki Yugakukan to see exhibits on the Aimoto Hanebashi bridge and the Kurobe River basin. For elementary school children and older, it is an introduction before the gorge or hot spring.

Check the 2026 trolley train's operating section

Through September 30, 2026, the Kurobe Gorge Railway runs turnback trips to Nekomata Station; full-line service is scheduled to resume on October 1. Check how far you can travel and the journey time before continuing from the roadside station to the hot spring town.

The farm's views come with a demanding road

Kurobe Farm Makiba no Kaze is a clear-day option for families, but the Tateyama Kurobe Geopark also cautions about sharp bends and steep gradients. If you buy a snack before driving there, consider motion sickness and weather.
