Yujiro’s break notes

See what to buy, eat and do for a break before you arrive.

Ichinose sees this station as more than a place to buy vegetables: it brings together meals, prepared foods, sweets and a lawn break on a drive. Park, use the toilets, browse seasonal produce at Kenko Mekke, then head to Kiraku Yokocho or Kanmidokoro Roku. With more time, add yakiniku or day camping; the stop can be brief or last half a day.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Patio Niigata sits on Prefectural Route 20, with convenient access from the Nakanoshima-Mitsuke Interchange. At this roadside station in Mitsuke City, you can visit a farmers’ market, a yakiniku restaurant, a meat and deli shop, a sweets shop, a spacious lawn and a day-camping area in one stop. You can shop briefly, rest on the lawn or stay for a meal.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Choose a farm market, meat and deli foods, and yakiniku on one site

Alongside Kenko Mekke, which sells local farmers’ vegetables and processed foods, are Kiraku Yokocho for fresh meat and prepared dishes and Taishu Yakiniku Kiraku Patio for a meal. You can plan lunch, something for dinner at home, or a barbecue on the lawn.

02

A lawn and wooden deck turn a parking stop into a break

Step from the wooden deck onto the lawn plaza; on clear days, views extend toward Mount Sumon and Mount Awagatake. Stop briefly for sweets, get some fresh air after shopping, or stay for day camping.

03

The toilets and disaster archive tell a Mitsuke story

The toilets are the only ones at a roadside station nationwide to have received a Japan Toilet Award. A disaster archive records the July 2004 flood. Alongside food and rest, you can learn about the Kariyata River and the area’s history.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 20–40 minute driving break

A quick shopping break near the interchange

Access from the Nakanoshima-Mitsuke Interchange via National Route 8 makes it easy to stop for the toilets and farm market, buy a few vegetables or local sweets, and set off again. Even without a yakiniku meal, you can pick up sweets or prepared foods.

Parking → toilets → Kenko Mekke → Kanmidokoro Roku or Kiraku Yokocho → departure

Kanmidokoro Roku’s hours may change with the day or weather. Check its official social media if sweets are your main reason for visiting.

A lunch break for adults or families

Combine lunch and shopping

Keep the choices simple: eat at Taishu Yakiniku Kiraku, then shop at Kenko Mekke and Kiraku Yokocho. On the same site, you can eat grilled meat, buy vegetables and take prepared dishes home, covering a travel meal and groceries for later.

Parking → Taishu Yakiniku Kiraku → Kenko Mekke → Kiraku Yokocho

At busy meal times, look around the farm market first so a wait at the restaurant is easier to manage.

Half a day in fine weather

Rest on the lawn and add some day-camping time

Use the wooden deck and lawn plaza as a base, adding sweets, the farm market and day camping. If you plan a barbecue, check availability and reserve first; Kiraku Yokocho’s meat and prepared foods are useful shopping options.

Check in → shop → lawn and day camping → sweets break

For day camping, check availability and reserve by phone or at the counter. Events and commercial use require an advance application.

A half-day drive for flowers, kites, disaster history and nature

Explore more of Mitsuke nearby

After visiting the disaster archive and eating at the station, walk to the Odako Denshokan kite museum or take a short drive to Mitsuke English Garden. For a longer outdoor play stop with children, head to Ohira Forest Park, pairing station shopping with time in nature.

Station → Odako Denshokan → Mitsuke English Garden or Ohira Forest Park

Odako Denshokan mainly opens on weekends and holidays; Mitsuke English Garden closes in winter. Choose according to the season and day of the week.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★★☆

Good for a toilet stop and a brief shopping trip.

The main draws are the farm market and dining, so keep the visit short if needed: toilets, nursing and diaper needs, then a sweets break.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

Best on a day when children can move around on the lawn.

The broad lawn helps, but children this age may reach for products in the farm market or deli area. It can help to have one adult shop while another waits outside.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Sweets, the lawn and Odako Denshokan make easy goals.

Add the kite museum a short walk away to a soft-serve and lawn break for a brief introduction to Mitsuke’s giant-kite tradition. Check the museum’s opening days.

Elementary school age
★★★★★

Can add the disaster archive, kites and day camping.

Connect the July 2004 flood records, the disaster-prevention park and the Imamachi–Nakanoshima Giant Kite Battle. For half a day, moving on to the play equipment and waterside at Ohira Forest Park also works.

New lineup following the April 23, 2026 grand opening

Official notices describe the expanded farm-market sales area, installation of a Veggie Meter, and the addition of Taishu Yakiniku Kiraku Patio and Kiraku Yokocho. Plan around the renovated shop lineup rather than the former restaurant.

Day-camping area

An outdoor base within Kariyata River Disaster Prevention Park. Check availability by phone or directly at reception, then reserve. Kiraku Yokocho is a convenient place to consider for barbecue supplies.

Season of the Mitsuke Imamachi–Nagaoka Nakanoshima Giant Kite Battle

The giant-kite battle runs for three days starting on the first Saturday of June each year. Around the event, the nearby Odako Denshokan museum and Imamachi’s history add local context to a station visit. Check the tourism association for details for the current year.

Seasonal displays at Mitsuke English Garden

Spring fairs, an early-summer flower festival, summer displays and autumn fairs offer seasonal flowers a short drive from the station. The garden closes in winter.

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The spring 2026 renovation reshaped the food choices

The official notice for the April 23, 2026 grand opening announced the expanded Kenko Mekke sales area and the addition of Taishu Yakiniku Kiraku and Kiraku Yokocho. Today, plan around yakiniku, fresh meat and prepared dishes, the farm market and sweets rather than the old restaurant.

Look beyond vegetables at the farm market

Kenko Mekke lists local farmers’ produce, processed foods, sweets, specialties, prepared dishes and boxed meals. It is a place to choose food for the car, dinner after returning home and souvenirs as well as vegetables.

Check Kanmidokoro Roku’s day and weather changes

Kanmidokoro Roku lists 12:00–17:00 on weekdays and 11:00–17:00 on weekends and holidays. Closures are irregular, usually on Tuesdays, and weather may change the hours. If soft serve is your main goal, check the sweets shop’s own updates.

The lawn and day camping make a longer stop possible

Tourism information describes a broad lawn spreading out from the wooden deck and the option to day camp. The official day-camping guidance says to check availability and reserve by phone or at reception, so plan a longer outdoor visit in advance.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.
