Highlights

Kangaku no Sato Shitada is a roadside station on National Route 289 in Sanjo City's Shitada district. It has the Saiyuki (彩遊記) farm produce shop and the Teigetsuan Goku (庭月庵 悟空) farm restaurant. You can also explore the area's culture through the birthplace and memorial museum of Dr. Tetsuji Morohashi. If you plan to shop and have lunch on the same visit, time your stop around the restaurant's meal service.

    Why I like it

    Reasons to stop here

    01

Choose Shitada vegetables and prepared foods

Saiyuki (彩遊記) sells local vegetables, edible wild plants, sweet potatoes, gonbo leaf sasa dango, seasonal okowa (seasoned sticky rice) and pickles. Gonbo leaf sasa dango are bamboo-leaf-wrapped rice dumplings made with local oyamabokuchi leaves in the dough. Look for both ingredients from the area and prepared foods to take home.

    02

Combine lunch with a visit to the cultural sites

Goku (悟空) serves handmade soba noodles, local dishes and set meals. Meal service runs from 11:00 to 15:00, with last orders at 14:30. Check the memorial museum's visiting hours separately from those of the roadside station shop.
