Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

First thing when you arrive
Do not use this site as a rest stop

The entrance is closed. Plan without expecting toilets, parking, a station stamp, a shop, or a restaurant here.

For shopping
To Alp Hida Furukawa

It is an active roadside station with farm-fresh vegetables, local sake, Hida beef, Hida chicken, crafts, and even a restaurant.

For meals
The town center or Nanamori Kiyomi

For a Hida Furukawa town walk, choose soba or a cafe; toward Takayama-nishi Interchange, look for Hida beef dishes.

If you are bringing children
Choose a waterfall, hot spring, or town walk

Do not count on play facilities here. Pick one outing: Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls, Nukumori no Yu Spaful, or the carp in the Seto River.

If it's a rainy day
To Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall

This indoor venue introduces Hida Furukawa’s character and pairs well with a town walk.

If you want to warm up
Nukumori no Yu Spaful

Its herbal bath and open-air bath make a pleasant end to a mountain drive. It is generally closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Highlights

Hida Furukawa Ibushi was a small roadside station known for Ibushi Gin Meisui spring water from the foot of Mt. Ibushi, handmade woodwork, local vegetables, and dattan soba (Tartary buckwheat noodles). Its roadside station registration was canceled on June 13, 2025, and the facility entrance closed that day. Do not come here for toilets, parking, road information, a station stamp, shops, or a restaurant. To keep the area’s former appeal in your trip without being stranded, redirect to Alp Hida Furukawa, Nanamori Kiyomi, Hida Furukawa town, Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls, or Nukumori no Yu Spaful.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

First of all, it is important to decide not to make this your destination.

According to Hida City’s official notice, the entrance has been closed since June 13, 2025, and toilets, parking, road information, and station stamp service are unavailable. Older listings and reviews may still suggest somewhere to rest or shop. Arrange a functioning rest stop before driving the Unohana Kaido.

02

Memories of charm are connected to the food and wood culture of Hida Furukawa

Ibushi was loved for its spring water, local vegetables, handmade woodwork, and simple meals. To find those local qualities today, visit Alp Hida Furukawa’s farm shop, central Hida Furukawa, woodwork experiences at FabCafe Hida, and the Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall.

03

Replan nearby food, shopping, and a warm bath

The closure calls for a different drive plan. Shop at Alp Hida Furukawa, find Hida beef or a light meal at Nanamori Kiyomi, unwind at Nukumori no Yu Spaful, and walk outdoors at Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls. Giving each stop a purpose still makes for an enjoyable Hida Furukawa detour.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Driving on Prefectural Route 90/Unohana Kaido

Coming from Kiyomi? Stop before the mountain road

Including Hida Furukawa Ibushi as a toilet stop will leave you without facilities. From the Takayama-nishi Interchange side, eat or shop at Nanamori Kiyomi before heading toward Furukawa, so your route has a proper break.

Nanamori Kiyomi → Prefectural Route 90 → Hida Furukawa direction

Since the road is in the mountains, it is safe to check the road surface and traffic information before moving in winter or in bad weather.

When you still want farm goods, souvenirs, and a light meal

Switch to food and shopping in Hida Furukawa

If you hoped to browse Ibushi’s former farm shop and woodwork, Alp Hida Furukawa is a straightforward alternative. It has farmer-delivered vegetables, local sake, Hida beef, Hida chicken, crafts, and a restaurant, putting meals and shopping on one site.

Around the Hida Furukawa Ibushi site → Alp Hida Furukawa

Since winter holidays and business hours for each store vary, we recommend that you prioritize official information on days you are looking for.

Sunny days, short mountain walks, and the cool feeling of summer

Make Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls the nature stop

Replace a roadside break with a walk along the gorge and its waterfalls. Around Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls are a wildflower garden, campground, and hot spring facility, making it a good choice when you want time by cool water.

Hida Furukawa area → Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls Prefectural Natural Park

Even the stone-paved path is mountain terrain. Keep the walk manageable after rain or with small children.

Adult trip, short sightseeing, indoor detour

In rain, discover Hida Furukawa in town

Combine the Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall, the Seto River and white-walled storehouse district, and FabCafe Hida for festivals, streetscape, and woodworking. Soba or a cafe meal in town carries on the area’s simple local-food appeal.

Start a walking tour near Hida-Furukawa Station or the city hall parking area

Carp in the Seto River are moved to wintering grounds during the winter, so their appearance changes depending on the season.

After driving on a mountain road, in winter, after a walk

Finish with a warm bath at Spaful

Nukumori no Yu Spaful has an herbal bath, open-air bath, sauna, and rest lounge, amid orchards and walking paths. Eat and shop elsewhere, then finish this half-day route at the hot spring.

The facility’s official website says its restaurant has closed. Plan your meal elsewhere before visiting.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Under 1 year old
★☆☆☆☆

The site is closed and is unsuitable for a diaper change, nursing stop, or toilet break.

Choose an operating facility first, such as Alp Hida Furukawa, Nanamori Kiyomi, or a town-center facility.

2-3 years old
★☆☆☆☆

Do not plan on having your child play in a closed area. For short breaks, it is safe to go to an active roadside station or hot spring facility.

Keep a Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls walk short according to footing and stamina.

4-6 years old
★★☆☆☆

Although the old station is no destination, the town’s carp, waterfall walk, or hot spring can make an enjoyable alternative.

On rainy days, indoor facilities like the Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall are convenient.

Primary school children
★★★☆☆

Explore spring water, woodcraft, waterfalls, and festival culture around the area rather than at former Ibushi itself.

Choose waterfalls in summer and a hot spring or indoor venue in winter for a manageable outing.

Rest

Ideas for a restful stop

  1. 1
Choose a rest stop before reaching this closed site

With the entrance closed, do not rely on this site for toilets or parking. Identify one operating facility before or after the mountain road.

  2. 2
Nanamori Kiyomi on the Kiyomi side; Alp Hida Furukawa on the Furukawa side

Choose the rest stop according to your direction of travel to avoid backtracking. Use an operating facility for food, shopping, and information.

  3. 3
Choose the Seto River for a town walk or Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls for nature

Match your stamina to a flatter town walk or a mountain waterfall path.

  4. 4
On a cold day, end at Spaful

Hida’s mountain roads feel different by season. A final hot spring stop offers a calm finish after eating and shopping.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

There is a tendency for discrepancies between old guidance and current conditions.

Travel listings and reviews still mention the former hours, dattan soba, spring water, and woodwork. Hida City, however, states that the entrance and services have been unavailable since June 13, 2025. Follow the city’s closure notice when deciding whether to visit.

Former Ibushi’s charm was modest local shopping

Past descriptions mention local vegetables, tofu, konnyaku (yam-based jelly), sweets, crafts, and timber for tables and cutting boards. It was a place to find items close to everyday Hida life rather than a large, busy station.

For soba, turn the memory of dattan soba into a current meal plan

Older reviews mention yellow dattan soba (Tartary buckwheat noodles), but it is no longer a meal available here. Try a soba shop in central Hida Furukawa, or go to Alp Hida Furukawa or Nanamori Kiyomi for local food.

Winter and rain need another shelter

The former roadside station stood along mountain Route 90 and cannot shelter travelers in bad weather now. In winter or rain, head for the indoor Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall, Spaful, or an operating roadside station.

Look for events across Hida Furukawa, not at the old station

There are no current station events to seek at former Ibushi. Check Hida City’s tourism events, the Hida Furukawa Festival Exhibition Hall, FabCafe Hida, and Spaful’s seasonal baths and notices for a worthwhile stop that day.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out

Opening and closure days, individual businesses and facilities for children or dogs can affect your plans.

  • Hida Furukawa Ibushi lost its roadside station registration on June 13, 2025, and its entrance closed the same day.
  • Do not travel here expecting toilets, parking, road information, station stamps, a shop, or a restaurant.
  • When driving from Kiyomi toward Furukawa, use Nanamori Kiyomi for food, shopping, and toilets first.
  • For shopping and food on the Hida Furukawa side, Alp Hida Furukawa is a straightforward alternative.
  • Utsue Forty-Eight Waterfalls is a good nature walk; after rain, in winter, or with young children, check footing and temperature and keep it short.
  • Nukumori no Yu Spaful makes a warm finish. Check its official notices for closure days and the restaurant closure.
  • Treat old reviews of menu items and spring water as memories of the site before closure, not current offerings.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

What former Ibushi is remembered for

Dattan soba / local vegetables / woodwork / spring water

Older reviews describe dattan soba (Tartary buckwheat noodles), Ibushi Gin Meisui spring water, handmade woodwork, and local vegetables as reasons to stop. These are memories to guide your itinerary, not things to seek at the closed site.

The former menu and shop are no longer available at this closed facility.

Shopping to take home

Fresh vegetables from Alp Hida Furukawa / Local sake / Hida beef / Crafts

For Hida Furukawa shopping, switch to the operating roadside station. Food ingredients and souvenirs are together, making it a practical stop during a drive.

Vegetables and side dishes change depending on the season and time of day.

A full meal

Yoriaidokoro Ko Hida Furukawa Shokudo / Sobasho Nakaya / Nanamori Kiyomi

Choose local dishes, soba, or Hida beef instead of arriving hungry at the closed site. Central Hida Furukawa works for a town walk; Nanamori Kiyomi suits the Takayama-nishi Interchange side.

Check each business’s opening days and possible sellouts in advance.

Sweets and a break

FabCafe Hida / Confectionery shop in Hida Furukawa-cho

A cafe or sweet stop alongside woodworking and a town walk extends the interest in local woodcraft. Even a short visit can feel distinctly Hida Furukawa.

FabCafe Hida lists Wednesday and Saturday closures; use nearby public parking.
