Natsuki's notes on Soratto Makinohara

Sort out parking and toilets, then enjoy strong tea flavors and seafood.

Natsuki Kashiwagi sees Soratto Makinohara as a station that can turn a practical airport stop into a shopping trip for Makinohara tea. If Lot 1 is full, check the station's current overflow parking guidance. If you can make the dining hall's hours, try tea soba or a shirasu bowl; on a short stop, rich matcha soft serve and the bakery still give you a taste of the place.

Once you know where to rest, you can take your time choosing what to eat and buy.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Soratto Makinohara opened in July 2025 as Makinohara City's first roadside station. It highlights the Makinohara Plateau's tea culture with a dining hall, bakery, rich matcha sweets, and souvenirs featuring Shizuoka shirasu (small whitebait) and Yaizu bonito. It is about six minutes by car from Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport and convenient from the Tomei Expressway's Yoshida Interchange. The toilets, rest area, and parking are listed as available 24 hours. For a short stop, try rich matcha soft serve or the bakery; for lunch, visit Ochanoma Shokudo. With more time, add the Tea Field Terrace, Shizunami Beach, or Grinpia Makinohara.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Enjoy tea in meals, bread, and sweets

Ochanoma Shokudo lists chilled Makinohara tea soba, stir-fried tea soba, and a Charu Charu Chicken set meal. Satori Bakery and Makinohara Satori Honten also offer breads, soft serve, crepes, and puddings made with Makinohara matcha.

02

Shizuoka seafood is another shopping highlight

Look for Shizuoka Shirasubare products, shirasu ginger sauce, shirasu and nori seaweed tsukudani (a sweet-savory preserve), and meals with Yaizu bonito or Suruga Bay shirasu. The station brings together produce from the tea plateau and the sea.

03

An easy rest stop before or after the airport

The official access guide puts the station about six minutes by car from Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport. With toilets, a rest area, and parking available 24 hours, it can serve as a stop around a flight or during early-morning and late-night travel.

04

Check the parking options before you arrive

The station's current access page lists Lot 1 and Lot 3. On holidays or event days, check its latest parking and shuttle guidance and allow time to walk from an overflow lot.

05

Extend your trip to Shizunami Beach and the tea fields

In summer, add Shizunami Beach; year-round, consider Grinpia Makinohara or the airport's viewing and shopping areas. Tea fields, coast, and airport are all part of Makinohara's landscape.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A day using Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport

A short matcha sweets stop around your flight

The station is close enough to visit during a short gap before or after a flight. Choose rich matcha soft serve, Satori pudding, or bakery items, then use the toilets and rest area for a taste of Makinohara even on a brief stop.

Airport or Yoshida Interchange area → roadside station → toilets, sweets, souvenirs → onward journey.

If the station name does not appear in your navigation system, search the official address instead.

A meal with Makinohara flavors

Make tea dishes the focus of lunch

At Ochanoma Shokudo, consider Makinohara tea soba, Charu Charu Chicken, and a shirasu bowl, then visit the produce market and Satori Honten. One meal stop can bring together tea and seafood.

Park → Ochanoma Shokudo → produce market → rich matcha soft serve or bakery.

The dining hall lists lunch from 10:00 to 16:00, with last orders at 15:00. On the third Saturday it also lists evening hours of 17:00–20:00; check current hours. Avoid the lunch rush on busy days.

An adult tea-country drive

See the tea fields, then take tea home

Pause at the Tea Field Terrace, then continue to Grinpia Makinohara to see the tea-growing landscape as well as shop. Choose deep-steamed tea or matcha sweets for the journey home.

Roadside station → Tea Field Terrace → Grinpia Makinohara → homeward journey.

Sun and wind affect outdoor stops; keep them short in summer.

A family day by the sea

Combine your visit with a summer beach trip

On a day at Shizunami Beach or Sagara Sun Beach, stop first for drinks, light food, and toilets. On the way back, cool off with a rich matcha shake or soft serve.

Roadside station → Shizunami Beach / Sagara Sun Beach → roadside station or homeward journey.

Check the city's current beach opening dates, swimming hours, parking fees, and crowd information.

Visitors during an event

Shop first on anniversary and seasonal fair days

At anniversary celebrations or strawberry fairs, limited products, prize draws, food trucks, and changing daily markets alter the flow of the whole station. Leave time for shopping, a snack, and a break rather than planning around one meal.

Temporary parking and shuttle information → shops → event space → dining hall or sweets.

Event dates and details change. Check the official website and Instagram for current plans.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 or younger
★★★☆☆

The 24-hour toilets and rest area, plus a baby care area, make this a practical stop for feeding and diaper changes.

The dining hall gets busier at lunch and on event days; a short visit may be easier.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Soft serve or a bakery stop can help with a break; the Tea Field Terrace works for a brief pause outdoors.

This is not a playground-focused station. Add Shizunami Beach or a park if the children need room to run.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Combine bread, soft serve, the beach, and watching planes at the airport to vary the day.

If the dining hall wait is long, shop or take a break outside first.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

A day linking tea fields, the airport, and the beach can show children Makinohara's landscape and industries.

Before summer swimming, check city swimming information and prepare for the heat.
