That simple order helps whether you continue to Bunkui Pass or Takato or head home after a short shopping stop.

Highlights

Roadside Station Minami Alps Mura Hase sits on National Route 152 in Hase, Ina City. Bread, a farm shop, a dining hall, and visitor information make it a gateway to this mountain village. Its signature treat is the mini croissant from Minami Alps Mura Panya, the bakery. Official visitor information describes it as popular from the morning, and the bakery recommends ordering ahead if you want to be sure of getting some. The farm shop sells Hase vegetables and local specialties; Shokudo Yottekashi serves meals and prepared dishes made with local vegetables. Inside the station, the Minami Alps Hase Visitor Center offers information on Bunkui Pass, Todai Park, the Southern Alps forest road bus, and Karei Highland. This makes the station useful for a brief shopping stop or for planning a day farther into the mountains. With children, an easy order is toilets and bread first, then the farm shop, followed by a short outing around the station or to Lake Miwa if the weather is good.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A croissant alone can make the stop feel like Hase

Minami Alps Mura Panya opens at 8:00 and highlights its mini croissants as a popular item. Few may be ready immediately after opening; reserve ahead if you especially want them.

02

Take the mountain village table home from the farm shop and dining hall

The farm shop is listed as open 9:00-17:30, closing at 17:00 in winter. Shokudo Yottekashi focuses on meals and prepared dishes using local vegetables, for lunch during a drive or provisions for dinner.

03

Check mountain travel information before continuing into the Southern Alps

The Minami Alps Hase Visitor Center inside the station provides information on the Hase area and mountain tourism. Recheck weather and transport before heading for Bunkui Pass, Todai Park, the forest road bus, or Karei Highland.

04

With children, choose a station stop before adding a nearby trip

For young children, a short stop for bread, toilets, and the farm shop may be enough. Add Lake Miwa, Takato Castle Ruins Park, or Karei Highland only if everyone has energy, to avoid tiring them out on the mountain roads.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A morning drive from central Ina into Hase

A morning detour for croissants

Visit Panya first for mini croissants and freshly baked bread. Few may be ready just after opening, so reserve if you need a larger quantity and want to keep the day on schedule.

Parking → Panya bakery → toilets → farm shop → departure.

Panya generally closes Mondays and Tuesdays. Follow official notices for holidays and the New Year period.

A midday break on National Route 152

Combine lunch with shopping

Look at Shokudo Yottekashi’s meals and prepared dishes with local vegetables, then buy vegetables, gelato, or chili oil at the farm shop. Leave room to switch to the bakery or farm shop if the dining hall is crowded.

Dining hall → farm shop → sweet treat → toilets.

The dining hall is generally open 10:00-16:30. Check ahead, as it has more closed days in winter.

A drive toward the Southern Alps

Plan before heading to Bunkui Pass or Todai Park

Check mountain information at the visitor center in the station, then get bread and drinks and use the toilets before continuing. Since 2024, departure points and service arrangements for Bunkui Pass have changed, so do not rely on old reviews or parking advice.

Station → Visitor Center → Hase Todai Park area / Bunkui Pass area.

Bunkui Pass closes in winter; check Southern Alps forest road bus operating days and connections.

A half-day drive with preschoolers

Reset with the children before Takato or Lake Miwa

Keep the station stop short: toilets, bread, gelato, then the farm shop. If the children still have energy, add a brief waterside stop at Lake Miwa, or head to Takato Castle Ruins Park in spring for outdoor time after eating.

Roadside station → Lake Miwa / Takato Castle Ruins Park.

Cherry blossom season in Takato brings crowds and traffic restrictions. At Lake Miwa, consider weather and shade and keep the stop brief.

A clear day from summer to autumn

Add cooler air and views at Karei Highland

Eat and shop at the station, then continue to Karei Highland if time and weather allow. It is high and cool even in summer, but the road is mountainous and there is no public transport. With small children, add it only on a fine day if the drive is manageable.

Roadside station → Hase branch office area → Karei Highland.

The operating season is roughly early May through late October. Camping requires a reservation.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Good for toilets, preparing to feed or change a baby, and a quick shopping stop before going farther into the mountains.

Bread and toilets first may be easier than a long circuit of the dining hall and farm shop.

Ages 2-3
★★★★☆

Suitable for a short break with bread, gelato, and a little fresh air. A brief plan can help reset everyone’s mood.

If adding Bunkui Pass or Karei Highland, allow for a longer drive and keep the station stop simple.

Ages 4-6
★★★★☆

Children can enjoy choosing bread, visiting the farm shop, seeing mountain travel information at the Visitor Center, and adding Lake Miwa or Takato.

On rainy days, skip extra outdoor stops and keep to shopping and displays.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

The Median Tectonic Line, Bunkui Pass, Southern Alps forest road bus, and Takato Castle Ruins Park offer ways to explore geology and history.

Weather and transport shape mountain plans, so check at the Visitor Center before continuing.

Do first

Take care of hunger and toilets before the mountain road.

Rainy day

Focus on the farm shop, bakery, and Visitor Center.

Sunny day

Consider heat, shade, and fatigue from mountain roads.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Ina City highlights seasonal produce, bread, the farm shop, dining hall, and chili oil as station specialties

The station offers more than croissants: local produce, prepared dishes at the dining hall, and locally devised souvenirs are part of the mountain village food experience.

Panya’s official site notes the mini croissants’ popularity and recommends reservations

Few may be ready immediately after opening. Visitors who want to be sure of getting mini croissants can reserve them ahead.

The station houses the Minami Alps Hase Visitor Center for mountain travel information

As well as shopping, the station is a place to check information before traveling to Bunkui Pass, Todai Park, or Karei Highland.

Bunkui Pass bus arrangements and winter closure need attention

Older shuttle bus information may be misleading. Winter closure and service suspension affect a visit, so check before heading into the mountains.

Check dates and days for the 2026 Minami Alps Geoliner and forest road bus connections

Public transport connections into the Southern Alps vary by day, and return travel on weekends and holidays also needs checking. Confirm official schedules before setting out.

Karei Highland offers cool summer air and views, but the road and season matter

For families with children, consider weather, available time, mountain driving, and the operating season before adding this nearby destination.
