Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Settle down over Tsuru food after the excitement of the maglev

The nearby Maglev Exhibition Center makes this a useful stop for a family outing. Use the toilets and get drinks before the visit, then browse Fujiyusui Pork, prepared foods and seasonal vegetables on the way back. The station offers more than a break in the journey: you can take home food shaped by Tsuru’s water.

02

Eat Fujiyusui Pork here or take it home

Okatteba restaurant offers pork steak, tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), ginger pork, curry and hōtō noodle stew. The farm shop also sells fresh pork, ham, sausages and prepared foods, so you can take something home even without time to sit down. At lunchtime, queues for ordering or food can form; arriving a little early helps if a meal is your priority.

03

Several ways to take a break at a small station

The parking area is not as vast as at larger stations, but there is a lawn, gelato café, tourist information center, 24-hour toilets and RV Park. Drivers can rest briefly, children can stretch on the lawn, and adults can browse the farm shop. The stop works for anything from 15 minutes to half a day without packing in too much.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Families with primary school children; rainy or hot days

Combine a meal and shopping with a maglev center visit

The indoor Maglev Exhibition Center is comfortable for a visit, while the road station covers meals and shopping. A morning at the maglev center, lunch at Okatteba and a farm shop stop on the way home fit children’s learning and adults’ shopping into one day.

Michi-no-Eki Tsuru → Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center, or return to the station after your visit.

Maglev test-run schedules change weekly and the center has closing days. Check its official calendar if seeing a train run is your aim.

An adult lunch break or a drive focused on meat dishes

Go early if Fujiyusui Pork is your main reason for lunch

Okatteba offers pork steak, tonkatsu, ginger pork, katsu curry and hōtō. Reviews suggest order queues and sold-out dishes are more likely at lunchtime on holidays, so arrive a little early if you want a meat dish.

About 10 minutes by car from Tsuru Interchange. The official site recommends searching the address in your car navigation system.

Menus, prices and limited quantities may change. Check the day’s signs or official notices for seasonal dishes.

A 15–30 minute break or a day without a sit-down meal

For a short break, the farm shop and Sumika Farm are enough

Browse vegetables, prepared foods, meat-wrapped rice balls, pudding, cheesecake, spicy condiments and Gunnai textiles in the farm shop. Finish with charcoal vegetable gelato or seasonal soft serve for a taste of Tsuru. If the restaurant is crowded, food from the shop is another option to eat in the car.

Park → toilets → farm shop → Sumika Farm.

Seasonal fruit and prepared foods can run low later in the day. Come in the morning if you have a particular item in mind.

Days spent in Tsuru until evening or when you want to rest after driving

Add a hot spring and take your time on the way home

After eating and shopping at the road station, continue to Yorimichi no Yu for hot springs, sauna, stone sauna and a restaurant. This makes an easy half-day route with time to relax after shopping.

Michi-no-Eki Tsuru → Yamanashi Tomareru Onsen Yorimichi no Yu.

Yorimichi no Yu closes on irregular days. Check the last admission time if visiting late.

A short nature detour for adults on a fine day

Walk to Taro and Jiro Falls for a taste of the spring-water town

Tsuru is a town of Mount Fuji spring water. After shopping at the station, a visit to Taro and Jiro Falls shows how water shapes the local food and landscape. The cool air is welcome in summer; watch your footing after rain.

Michi-no-Eki Tsuru → Taro and Jiro Falls. Drive, then walk the final section.

There are narrow lanes and a walking section near the falls. Check where to park and watch your footing; visit before dark.

Family

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

The 24-hour toilets and lawn help, but play at the station is mainly outdoors. Find the nursing and diaper-changing facilities on arrival before settling in.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Children can move around briefly on the lawn. If the restaurant wait looks long, leave room to switch to the farm shop or gelato café.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Pairing the station with the Maglev Exhibition Center adds to the outing. Use the station for shopping and light outdoor play, then add learning at the center.

Primary school age
★★★★★

Children of this age can connect the maglev, spring water and food in one day. Combine the exhibition center and road station with the hot spring or falls for both learning and rest.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Checking event dates.

Spaces used for events

Farm shop and covered frontage

This area often hosts seasonal shopping events such as Peach Day, a summer harvest festival and wine tastings. For limited quantities or offers ending when stock runs out, morning is the safer choice.

Lawn

On ordinary days, the lawn is useful for a short break or a change of pace for children. During events it may host stalls or activities.

Okatteba restaurant

The restaurant offers limited-period menus such as a Korean fair, Mount Fuji Day specials and seasonal chilled noodles. Check official notices if a specific dish is your reason to visit.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Do not rely on the restaurant alone at holiday lunchtime

After ordering, diners wait with a numbered ticket. Reviews often mention checkout queues and sold-out dishes at holiday lunchtime. Come early for a meat dish, or keep the farm shop’s prepared foods and gelato in mind if it is crowded.

The farm shop changes visibly with the seasons

Summer brings peaches, vegetables, cold noodles and soft serve, with frequent changes in official announcements. Look at the notices for the week you visit before deciding what to buy.

RV Park is useful, with reservations and closure checks

The RV Park lists 24-hour toilets, electrical power and waste disposal, making it useful for a vehicle trip toward the Fuji Five Lakes. Reservations and restrictions over New Year, temporary closures and events apply. Plan an overnight stay separately from an ordinary parking break.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

A full meal

Pork steak set / tonkatsu set / ginger pork set / katsu curry

For a meal rooted in Tsuru, focus on Fujiyusui Pork. Companions can choose between meat, curry and hōtō noodle stew.

Order queues and sellouts are more likely around lunchtime on holidays. Arrive early or after the peak.

A taste of Yamanashi

Koshu-style hōtō noodle stew / chicken giblets / chilled hōtō

Visitors from outside the prefecture can try a Yamanashi dish as well as meat. The chilled summer version suits a hot day.

Seasonal dishes are offered for limited periods; check official notices and the in-store menu.

Take something home quickly

Prepared foods / meat-wrapped rice balls / fresh Fujiyusui Pork / ham and sausages

Even without time for the restaurant, the farm shop lets you take Tsuru flavors into the car or home. It makes a satisfying travel purchase.

Handmade prepared foods and popular items can sell out as the day goes on.

Pause for something sweet

Charcoal vegetable gelato / white peach soft serve / Shine Muscat soft serve / pudding / cheesecake

A good choice after a meal or during a short stop, for children and adults alike.

Seasonal flavors change. In summer, choose a place to eat before your ice cream melts.

Make shopping the main event

Local vegetables / seasonal fruit such as peaches / rice / spicy condiments / Gunnai textiles / woodcraft

Shop for everyday food as well as souvenirs. Seasonal events such as Peach Day and harvest festivals add another reason to visit.

Event days can bring a wider selection, along with busier parking and checkout lines.
