Miyasaka's stopover notes

First decide whether this is a day to pick flowers or just take a break. That makes a family visit easier to plan.

Riho Miyasaka recommends this station as a place to handle southern Boso flowers rather than as a destination for a meal. During flower-picking season, head for the greenhouse; during the shop closure, use the toilets and stamp. Go to Biwa Club for a meal and Taibusa Cape for outdoor play. Separating those purposes cuts down on indecision when driving with children.

Otsunosato becomes much easier to use when you distinguish a day to buy flowers, a day to see them and a day just to rest.

Highlights

At Roadside Station Otsunosato, the main attraction is Hana Club, where visitors can pick snapdragons, stock, poppies, carnations, statice and other flowers in greenhouses covering about 4,000 tsubo (roughly 13,200 m²). It is about five minutes by car from Tomiura IC, and the greenhouses make flowers easier to enjoy in the rain. As of July 14, 2026, shop operations were closed for the summer through October 30, 2026, although the toilets and roadside-station stamp remained available. Pick flowers here in season; during the closure, or when a meal is the priority, connect a short stop with Roadside Station Tomiura Biwa Club or Taibusa Cape Nature Park for an easy family drive in southern Boso.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

The main draw: flower picking in a greenhouse, even on rainy days

The official site says snapdragon picking starts in mid-October in its 4,000-tsubo greenhouses, with carnations, statice, stock and other flowers available through around Golden Week in May. Entry is free, but picking flowers costs extra, so you can choose between simply looking and picking some to take home.

02

A place to buy, send and take home flowers more than a meal stop

At the farm shop and flower market, look for Boshu loquat products, local specialties, freshly cut flowers and bouquets; you can also ask about delivery. The café lists items such as milk soft serve with loquat fruit, but if a meal is your main goal, include nearby Biwa Club as another option.

03

Check closure notices before visiting in summer 2026

Minamiboso City tourism information says shop operations are closed for the summer from May 11 to October 30, 2026, while the toilets and roadside-station stamp remain available. As of July 14, 2026, a stop for the toilets before continuing to nearby sights was more realistic than a flower-picking visit.

04

With children, keep flower picking and lawn time in short stretches

This is a small station, so plan to see flowers in the greenhouse, take a brief break on the lawn, and drive on to Taibusa Cape Nature Park if needed, rather than come for large playground equipment. In rainy weather, the greenhouse and shop make a useful combination when open; in fine weather, add a nearby walk.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

Families taking flowers home and drives with two generations

Make flower picking the destination from winter to spring

Start in the greenhouse and see which flowers are blooming and available to pick that day. Let children choose a color: even a short session can make a memorable part of the trip. Enjoy the picked flowers at home too, including recutting their stems in water to help them last.

Park → toilets → greenhouse flower picking → flower market → café or departure

Flower picking costs extra, and the varieties and timing depend on the weather. Aim to enter by 4:00 p.m.

Use the summer closure period for a rest stop

With shop operations closed in summer 2026, use the toilets and stamp, then go to Roadside Station Tomiura Biwa Club for food and shopping. Thinking of this as the season for sowing flower seeds and preparing to reopen helps avoid building a visit around unavailable activities.

Toilets and stamp at Otsunosato → food and shopping at Biwa Club → Taibusa Cape or Haraoka Pier

The announced closure lasts through October 30, 2026. Check official notices for the reopening date or temporary changes.

Families with small children or grandparents

On rainy days, enjoy the greenhouse and shopping

During flower-picking season, you can experience southern Boso by seeing flowers in the greenhouse and choosing cut flowers or loquat products without adding outdoor play. Staying around the station is easier than heading to the shore when the ground is wet or winds are strong.

Park → greenhouse → flower market → loquat sweet treat → return to car

Greenhouse paths or crowds can make a stroller hard to maneuver, so be prepared to carry a child.

Half-day drives

On a sunny day, continue to Taibusa Cape or Haraoka Pier

After enjoying the season's flowers, continue to Taibusa Cape Nature Park for lawns, lookouts and rocky-shore play, or to Haraoka Pier for sea views. A lunch stop at Biwa Club can help keep hungry family members comfortable.

Otsunosato → Biwa Club → Taibusa Cape Nature Park or Haraoka Pier

Keep shore visits short according to wind, sun, parking availability and late-afternoon crowds.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Ages 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Works for a short break to look at flowers.

Check nursing and diaper-changing facilities in advance. During the summer 2026 closure, plan around the toilets and stamp rather than other services.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Choose colors in the greenhouse and move around briefly on the lawn.

Remind children not to break flowers or run. Aim for a visit of about 30–45 minutes rather than a long stay.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Can enjoy flower picking as an activity.

Deciding which colors to pick and whom to give them to can help children stay engaged. It also suits a rainy day.

Elementary school ages
★★★★☆

Explore flower varieties, loquat products and nature walks at Taibusa Cape.

Flower picking alone may be brief, so combine it with Taibusa Cape or Haraoka Pier for a full day's outing.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

The greenhouse makes this an option on rainy days

Flower picking is offered as a greenhouse experience less affected by weather. On rainy days, staying around the station is easier than going to the shore.

Cut flowers bring enjoyment home

The official site offers tips such as recutting stems in water to help flowers last. Decide where to put them in the car before taking them home.

Visitor comments tend to appeal to flower lovers

Travel and family-oriented sites often discuss flower picking, greenhouses, taking cut flowers home and how varieties change with the season.

Add Taibusa Cape and Biwa Club for a half-day outing

Otsunosato itself is fairly small, so nearby stops for a meal, shopping and outdoor play can make a family outing easier to arrange.
