How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

See first
The yellow tourist information center

Ask about flower blooms, the beach and detours toward Mount Nokogiri before setting off.

For food
Shunsai Ouka or the Showa Toy Museum

Mainly light meals. Around lunchtime, check each shop's hours and irregular closures.

For shopping
atelier bonbon, Kirara and Kyonan Beer

Choose among sweets, seasonal ingredients and craft beer to take away.

For the outdoors
Kisugaura Beach

The beach adjoins the station and is convenient for a sunset view or short stroll.

With children
Locate the toilets and parking area first

This is not a playground-focused station; keep beach or flower walks manageable for the weather and time available.

Naomi Arima's detour notes

At this small station, it helps to choose one main purpose first.

Naomi Arima suggests using Kyonan's parking area, toilets and information center as a base, then taking a short branch to sweets, a light meal, the beach or the museum rather than trying to do everything in one large complex. With children, locate the toilets and an easy route back first. Adults can pair the museum with sweets, while a clear afternoon suits a sunset at Kisugaura Beach. Check individual shop hours and keep the stop relaxed.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Kyonan is a small complex on National Route 127, bringing together the Kyonan Town Tourist Information Center, Hishikawa Moronobu Memorial Museum, and shops for local products and food. Rather than expecting a large farmers' market, ask at the information center about flowers and beach conditions, then choose among atelier bonbon, Kirara, Kyonan Beer, Shunsai Ouka and the Showa Toy Museum to suit your interests. From the parking area and toilets, it is easy to add a short visit to Kisugaura Beach for sunset or to see daffodils and Yoritomo cherry blossoms in early spring. Check current tenants and opening hours before visiting.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Start your trip at the yellow tourist information center

The Kyonan Town Tourist Information Center, open 9:00–17:00, is the station's hub. Staff can help you adjust plans for daffodils, Yoritomo cherry blossoms, the coast and the Mount Nokogiri area to the day's weather. The roadside station stamp is here too, making even a short stop easy to plan.

02

Small separate places to eat and shop make choosing easy

The shops include atelier bonbon for Western-style pastries, Kirara for seasonal produce, Kyonan Beer, Shunsai Ouka for light meals and Japanese sweets, and the Showa Toy Museum, which also serves grilled seafood skewers. Hours and days off vary by shop, so it helps to decide whether sweets, vegetables, craft beer or a light meal is your priority. Confirm the current tenants before making a special trip.

03

Turn a break into art and coastal scenery

The Hishikawa Moronobu Memorial Museum on the grounds is open 9:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:30. After seeing ukiyo-e, Japanese woodblock prints, head to Kisugaura Beach or the seawall for a short taste of Kyonan's culture and Tokyo Bay scenery.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short stop while traveling on National Route 127

A 30-minute break with a taste of Kyonan

After parking, use the toilets and check flower and beach conditions at the information center. Pick just one thing to buy—a cream puff, baked sweets, local vegetables or Kyonan Beer—so the separate shops do not slow you down.

Parking -> toilets -> tourist information center -> one local product or sweet -> depart.

Many food and product shops open at 10:00 and have different days off. In the early morning or on Mondays, plan mainly for a rest stop.

Rainy days, adults traveling together or trips with grandparents

Take your time with ukiyo-e and sweets

See ukiyo-e at the Hishikawa Moronobu Memorial Museum, then add sweets at Shunsai Ouka or atelier bonbon. On a day when outdoor plans are difficult, art and a light snack make a fuller stop.

Tourist information center -> Hishikawa Moronobu Memorial Museum -> sweets or pastries -> Kirara local products hall.

Last admission to the museum is around 16:30. Check its official notices for special exhibitions and closure days.

From a clear afternoon into evening

Continue to a sunset by the shore

A short walk west of the station or to Kisugaura Beach brings views of Tokyo Bay and the setting sun. Buying a snack or pastry before going to the sea gives adults and children a change of pace without a long meal.

Station -> shopping or light snack -> Kisugaura Beach -> depart before evening.

The parking area and toilets can get busy during summer swimming season. Avoid going out onto the beach in severe weather.

A flower-viewing drive from late December to early March

Make an early-spring flower outing of it

Combine Ezuki Daffodil Road, the Yoritomo cherry blossoms along the Hota River and the Sakuma Dam area, using Kyonan as a rest base. Ask the information center about current blooms and match walking distances to your family's stamina.

Station -> tourist information center -> Ezuki Daffodil Road or Hota River -> shop at the station.

Peak blooms and illuminations vary by year. The announced 2026 Yoritomo Cherry Blossom Festival ran from February 7 to March 14; check new dates for future visits.

A Boso Peninsula drive focused on scenery

Stop before or after Mount Nokogiri or Daikokuyama

Use the station for a toilet break before Mount Nokogiri or sweets after the Daikokuyama viewpoint. Parking, toilets and shopping each serve a clear purpose. On a day with slopes and stairs, leave the station stop unhurried.

Station -> Mount Nokogiri or Daikokuyama -> light meal at or near the station.

Plans around Mount Nokogiri depend on weather, road closures, temple visiting hours and ropeway operation. Check each official notice before departure.

Visiting with children

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Under 1 year
★★★☆☆

Best for a brief toilet stop and indoor visit.

This is not a place for a long playground visit. A short circuit of the information center, sweets and toilets while carrying your child is easier.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Keep any beach walk short and suited to the weather.

Break up the visit into short walks between shops, a return to the car and a look at the beach. Find the toilets before setting out.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

The Showa Toy Museum and beach offer easy conversation starters.

Retro toys, skewers and coastal views provide several brief points of interest. Prioritize protection from summer heat.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Turn ukiyo-e, sunset views and flower walks into learning.

Combining the Hishikawa Moronobu Memorial Museum, Kisugaura Beach and Ezuki Daffodil Road makes Kyonan's history and nature memorable.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Each shop has different hours and days off

The information center and museum generally open 9:00–17:00, while many product and food shops start at 10:00. Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, irregular and severe-weather closures all occur among them. Check shortly before a visit focused on a specific meal.

Sweets and craft beer make good take-home choices

Travel reviews and reported visits frequently mention cream puffs, Kyonan Beer, grilled seafood skewers and the Showa Toy Museum. As well as eating during the stop, you can choose a souvenir to enjoy at home.

The beach and sunset turn a short stop into a travel memory

The station faces Tokyo Bay, with Kisugaura Swimming Beach close by. On a clear afternoon, a few minutes by the shore after the shops can leave a distinct memory of Kyonan.

Early spring changes the focus to daffodils and Yoritomo cherry blossoms

Daffodils along Ezuki Daffodil Road from late December to early February and Yoritomo cherry blossoms from February to March make the station a base for a flower outing. Bloom times shift each year, so check the information center or tourism association updates before setting out.

Check road closures toward Mount Nokogiri

The tourism association has posted closure information for the Motona–Kanaya forest road. If continuing to Mount Nokogiri or Nihonji Temple, check the road, ropeway and temple visiting hours before or after your station stop.

Before your visit

Things to check before setting out
