Naomi's stopover notes

For now, eat and shop across the river before exploring the Shinkawa.

Naomi Wakamiya puts parking and toilets first when planning a visit here. During construction, use the market, restaurant and ice cream workshop together on the Agricultural Exchange Center side. Add the lawn with children, or continue to the Shinkawa and Keisei Rose Garden in flower season. A simple break can become a small half-day trip.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Yachiyo is a roadside station on National Route 16 where you can discover the Shinkawa River and Yachiyo's farm produce. Yachiyo Furusato Station has been undergoing major renovation since October 2025, but the Craft farm produce market, Petit Chantilly ice cream workshop, Yachiyo Michi-no-Eki Shokudo restaurant, and Hana no E Ryokuen continue to operate at Yachiyo Agricultural Exchange Center across the river. Choose vegetables at the market, pause for gelato or Takeoka-style ramen, a Chiba ramen style, and, in season, continue to the Shinkawa Senbonzakura cherry trees or Keisei Rose Garden.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Head for the Agricultural Exchange Center for now

The main Yachiyo Furusato Station is scheduled to remain closed for renovation through December 28, 2026. For parking, toilets, shopping and meals, use Yachiyo Agricultural Exchange Center across the Shinkawa River as your starting point. Check the official access directions before entering from National Route 16. For navigation, the center is やちよ農業交流センター, 千葉県八千代市島田2076 (2076 Shimada, Yachiyo, Chiba).

02

Fit the market, restaurant and ice cream workshop into a short break

Craft's farm produce market focuses on seasonal vegetables, fruit and processed foods from Yachiyo and nearby areas. Even on a 30-minute break, you can take home something from the market or Hana no E Ryokuen's cut flowers and succulents, and try Petit Chantilly gelato or Takeoka-style ramen at Yachiyo Michi-no-Eki Shokudo.

03

Continue naturally into a seasonal walk along the Shinkawa

Open riverside scenery is close to the station. In spring, different cherry varieties bloom from Kawazu-zakura to Somei Yoshino. A short riverside walk, a flower visit to Keisei Rose Garden, or a stop at Yachiyo City Folk Museum can turn shopping into a half-day outing.

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A short stop while traveling between the Chiba-kita Interchange area and Kashiwa

A 30-minute food and shopping break on Route 16

After parking, use the toilet and market first. On a hot day, get gelato; at lunchtime, head to the restaurant. For now, keep the visit on the Agricultural Exchange Center side instead of going to the Furusato Station building.

National Route 16 → Agricultural Exchange Center parking lot → toilets → Craft market → gelato or restaurant.

Temporary parking arrangements change on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Check the official access directions before setting out.

A half-day outdoors with preschool or primary-school children

A farm experience stop with outdoor play for children

The Agricultural Exchange Center has a lawn, loaner outdoor play equipment, seasonal harvest experiences and cooking classes. Some activities close registration early, so check the class and experience listings before your visit.

Buy drinks and snacks at the market → lawn → prebooked experience or shared bicycle → gelato.

In midsummer, prioritize shade and water, and break up the visit with time in the restaurant or indoors.

Days for spring cherry blossoms or early-summer and autumn roses

Extend a flower-season visit to the Shinkawa and Keisei Rose Garden

Shinkawa Senbonzakura is close to the roadside station, and Keisei Rose Garden is a flower destination reachable by car. Look at vegetables and cut flowers at the market before visiting the blooms for a day combining Yachiyo's farming and flowers.

Michi-no-Eki Yachiyo → walk along the Shinkawa → Keisei Rose Garden → shop on the way home.

Parking around the river may be restricted during cherry blossom events. Prioritize official parking guidance or public transport.

Bad-weather days or days when outdoor play should be brief

On rainy days, focus on the restaurant and market

Skip the Shinkawa walk and lawn in the rain. Visit the market, restaurant, ice cream workshop and flower seller, mainly indoors or under cover. Vegetables and flowers to use at home make even a short stop worthwhile.

Park → restaurant → market → Hana no E Ryokuen → depart.

Restaurant last-order times vary by shop and day; arrive early if lunch is your main reason for visiting.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 or younger
★★★☆☆

Best for toilets, brief shopping and an indoor break.

During construction, keep to the Agricultural Exchange Center side and plan a short visit with carrying the child and a rest in the car.

Ages 2–3
★★★★☆

The lawn and gelato make it easy to take a break and change pace.

Instead of a long market visit, alternate short spells of eating, going outside and returning to the car.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Loaner play equipment and harvest experiences can make a longer stay rewarding.

A prebooked experience or lawn time makes it easier to combine adult shopping with children's outdoor play.

Primary-school children
★★★★★

Farm experiences, cooking classes, shared bicycles and Shinkawa walks offer more options.

In cherry or rose season, use the station as a meeting and rest point before heading to the Shinkawa or Keisei Rose Garden for both learning and play.

Classes and experiences at Yachiyo Agricultural Exchange Center

Cooking classes, parent-child classes, harvest experiences and farm activities are offered seasonally. Check official updates for opening dates and deadlines, which can come early.

Lawn, barbecue and loaner play equipment

The outdoor space suits families and groups. Barbecue is scheduled from April 4 to November 3, 2026, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and daily during summer vacation except closure days, from 10:00 to 15:00. Online booking is required. The listed basic price is ¥4,000 per set for six people. Bring your own food and tableware; barbecue may not run on event days, so check before visiting.

Shinkawa Senbonzakura cherry trees

Along the Shinkawa, Kawazu-zakura, Yoko and Somei Yoshino bloom at different times in spring. Watch for parking restrictions on event days.

Festivals and other events

The July 18, 2026 appreciation festival has ended. A third puzzle-solving event is listed on the schedule for October 31–November 3, 2026. Details may change; check official updates.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Construction information makes a big difference to a visit now

The main Furusato Station is closed, so shoppers and diners should head to the Agricultural Exchange Center side. If you remember the former layout, your old route may no longer work; first-time visitors should check the access directions too.

The market offers more choice earlier in the day

Reviews and market-use patterns suggest that many visitors come for vegetables and that selection can thin out later. Look at the market before eating or getting gelato so you do not miss what you want to take home.

On holidays, plan separately for parking and the lunch rush

Weekend visits can overlap on Route 16, and construction constrains parking routes. If lunch matters most, go to the restaurant early; for shopping, start at the market; for outdoor play, leave room to switch to the lawn or a Shinkawa walk.
