How to enjoy

Choose how to enjoy your visit

Eat, shop, play, take in the view or rest. Choose from the station’s strengths to suit your day.

Nico Nico Marche

Vegetables, yuba (tofu skin), soba, and Nikko sweets are together here, giving even a short visit a sense of local food.

For a meal
Kyosuian and Kanameya

Lunch service generally starts at 11:00. Since soba and udon may sell out, keep sweets or a light snack as a fallback for a late lunch.

With children or on a short stop, pudding or soft serve can make for an easy break.

Choose something to share in the car and something to open later at home or your lodging.

Fuka's detour notes

Deciding what to buy first can make a day in Nikko feel calmer.

This station works well as a place to pause and prepare in Imaichi before reaching the main sightseeing sites. Once parked, start with the toilets and the marche. Decide whether to eat lunch here, buy bread and okaki rice crackers before continuing, or pick up yuba and vegetables on the way home. That small decision can make a day at the World Heritage sites, a trip toward Kinugawa, or a family drive a little more relaxed.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Nikko, also called Nikko Kaido Nico Nico Honjin, sits in central Imaichi, where you can prepare for sightseeing in Nikko and shop on the way home. Browse local vegetables, yuba (tofu skin), and soba at Nico Nico Marche, along with Nikko Pudding Tei, Kanaya Hotel Bakery, and Nikko Okaki Kobo, then walk to Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine or explore the old Imaichi post town. There are 71 standard-car parking spaces, and Parking Lot 3 closes overnight. The station works best for a daytime break, shopping, and visitor information.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

An in-town base before or after sightseeing in Nikko

Before heading to the World Heritage sites or Kinugawa, you can use the toilets, get visitor information, eat lunch, and shop in one stop. Its town-center location also makes a short walk easy to add.

02

Plenty of specific things to buy

Nico Nico Marche offers Nikko take-home choices including yuba (tofu skin), soba noodles, tamari-zuke pickles, local vegetables, Nikko rusks, Kanaya Hotel Bakery goods, and Nikko Okaki Kobo rice crackers.

03

Plan around parking on busy days

Allow for 71 standard-car spaces and three priority parking spaces. Parking Lot 3 closes from 18:00 to 9:00, making this a better daytime stop than a place for a long overnight stay.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A morning drive in Nikko

Prepare before visiting Nikko's shrines and temples

The station is near Imaichi Interchange and within walking distance of JR Imaichi and Tobu Shimo-Imaichi stations. Decide where to go at the visitor information center, use the toilets, and buy bread or okaki rice crackers for the car before heading to the Nikko Sannai shrine and temple area.

Imaichi Interchange → Michi-no-Eki Nikko → Nikko Toshogu and the Nikko Sannai area.

Travel time toward Nikko Toshogu can grow with the season and time of day. If you also want lunch, eating here first or limiting the stop to shopping can simplify the day.

Rainy days, families with children, and older companions

Eat lunch and shop on the same grounds

Kyosuian, Kanameya, Nikko Pudding Tei, HONJIN CAFE, and the marche are on the same grounds, so you can sample Nikko flavors without a long outdoor walk. At peak meal times, check waits for seats and food, and leave room to switch to sweets, bread, or prepared dishes.

Park → toilets → lunch → marche → sweets or bakery.

Nico Nico Marche closes on the third Tuesday; food outlets have sellouts and last-order times.

A day for a brief stroll

Take a short walk through Imaichi-juku

Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine, Shimo-Imaichi Station, and sites on the Imaichi-juku Eight Lucky Gods route are nearby. The station makes a convenient base for parking and shopping, with 30–60 minutes to add some local history without a longer shrine-and-temple outing.

Michi-no-Eki → Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine → Shimo-Imaichi Station area → back to the marche.

Official guidance asks visitors to avoid extended use of the shopping parking lot and overnight stays in vehicles. Keep the town walk short.

Families with preschool or elementary-school children

Head to the park after the children recharge

Use the toilets and get a light snack at the station, then go to Nikko Daiyagawa Park if the children still want to move around. The park gives active children an option while adults can finish shopping.

Meal and shopping at the station → Nikko Daiyagawa Park → journey home.

The park's parking gate hours change with the season. Check them first if going late in the day.

Stars show the editorial recommendation for each age group on a five-point scale. Read the reasons alongside each rating.

Age 1 and under
★★★☆☆

Best for brief indoor shopping and a break around feeding or diaper changes.

This is an in-town station, not one with large play equipment. Carrying a child may be easier than using a stroller in a crowded sales area.

Ages 2–3
★★★☆☆

Good for short steps: pudding, bread, toilets, then back to the car.

Rather than staying too long in the shops, choose one thing to eat and move on to Daiyagawa Park if needed.

Ages 4–6
★★★★☆

Choosing okaki, pudding, or bread can be fun, with room for a short Imaichi walk.

Keep mostly indoors on a rainy day; when sunny, add a brief visit to Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine or a park.

Elementary school age
★★★★☆

Nikko Kaido, Ninomiya Sontoku, and the cedar avenue can make this more than a shopping stop.

Before or after Nikko Toshogu, combine a walk through Imaichi-juku with Suginamiki Park to help the area's history stick.

Parking

Parking Lot 3 closes from 18:00 to 9:00. Official guidance says large vehicles share standard-car spaces and should contact the facility in advance.

Toilets

A stop before visiting shrines, temples, or a park makes the next leg easier.

Rest

This station suits separate stops for food, sweets, and shopping more than a long stay.

Event

Make an event part of your visit

Permanent spaces and dated events are listed separately. Events can change both the atmosphere and crowds; use the official links for details.

Local feel

Reasons to return

Practical ideas and things to consider when spending time here.

Parking is the first decision

Official guidance lists 71 standard-car spaces, three priority spaces, the overnight closure of Parking Lot 3, and a request to avoid extended parking. On weekends or event days, consider a shopping-only stop, nearby parking, or a park visit first rather than relying solely on a restaurant stop.

Don't rely on just one restaurant

Kyosuian says soba and udon service ends when supplies run out, while Kanameya can draw lunch crowds. The station also has pudding, a cafe, a bakery, okaki, and prepared foods; a lighter alternative may keep your itinerary on track.

An in-town station makes a walking detour easy

Alongside the bigger sights of Nikko Sannai, add a brief walk to Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine, the Shimo-Imaichi Station area, or the Imaichi-juku Eight Lucky Gods route. These are short additions to a shopping stop that can fit children or older companions.

Separate past events from upcoming plans

The anniversary celebration of April 25–May 10, 2026 has ended. For future visits, check official notices, event listings, and social media for closures and seasonal sales.

Treat the Funamura Toru museum as a former attraction

The Museum of Japanese Songs and Funamura Toru Memorial Hall, still listed on some tourism pages, announced closure on March 31, 2026. Today, focus on the shops, visitor information, plaza, and nearby walks.

Seasons extend beyond Nikko Sannai into Imaichi

In spring, look for the cedar avenue and flowers in the countryside; in summer, Daiyagawa Park and the traditional riverside fishing sites on the Kinugawa; in autumn, shopping around the fall-color season; and in winter, warm meals before or after chilly shrine visits. The station is a starting point for seasonal trips nearby rather than a high-altitude scenic overlook.

Food mood

What would you like to eat?

A meal, a sweet treat, market shopping or something to take away: choose a focus for the day instead of trying everything at once.

Illustrative image — not an on-site photograph
First choice for lunch

Kyosuian and Kanameya

For a relaxed meal of Nikko-style soba, yuba (tofu skin), or locally grown Koshihikari rice. Lunch here works well before moving on to the main sightseeing area.

Service generally starts at 11:00, with last order at 17:30. Noodles may sell out.

A sweet break

Nikko Pudding Tei Add branch and HONJIN CAFE

When children may tire of a long meal, or on a rainy day spent at the station, take a short break with pudding, soft serve, or coffee.

Snacks for the car

Nikko Okaki Kobo and Kanaya Hotel Bakery

Pick up shareable okaki rice crackers or bread before driving toward Nikko Sannai or Kinugawa.

A taste of Nikko to open later

Yuba, soba, tamari-zuke pickles, and local vegetables

Bring some Nikko food back to your lodging or home instead of eating everything while sightseeing. Take time to browse the marche.

When restaurants are busy

Prepared dishes, boxed meals, and the separate convenience store

If the restaurant wait is long, switch to prepared food or bread and consider walking around the neighborhood first.

The official listing gives the separate convenience store's hours as 5:00–00:30 the following day. Check current store hours.
