Fuka's forest notes

See the villa before buying vegetables here.

Fuka Soma sees Meiji no Mori Kuroiso as a place where farming, architecture, and flowers share the same grounds. Look at the white Aoki Villa, walk through Hanna Garden, choose vegetables at Marché, and finish with soft serve. Even the contents of the shopping bag may seem a little more elegant afterward.

Once you see the Aoki Villa before choosing vegetables, the name of this station truly sinks in.

Highlights

Renewed in 2024, Michi-no-Eki Meiji no Mori Kuroiso is a hub for food, farming, and tourism. Choose Nasushiobara vegetables and dairy products at the marché; explore bread and processed dairy products at Craft; and discover ways to enjoy local ingredients at Dining. Then walk to the adjacent Former Aoki Family Nasu Villa, a National Important Cultural Property, and Hanna Garden's seasonal flowers. Fuka Soma recommends experiencing the Meiji-era Western-style villa and the light of the Nasunogahara plain along with the shopping. Families can continue to Nasunogahara Park, while adults can head to Itamuro Onsen, a hot-spring area, or Kuroiso town for a longer visit.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

A nationally designated Important Cultural Property stands beside the roadside station

The Former Aoki Family Nasu Villa, built in 1888 as Aoki Shūzō's Nasu retreat, is a work of modern architecture. A walk around the white Western-style villa and its garden after shopping makes this more than a produce market.

02

The renewed Marché, Craft, and Dining areas are a major draw

The spring 2024 renewal gave produce sales, workshops, and the restaurant distinct roles. The natural sequence is to buy vegetables, enjoy dairy products and bread, then learn how local ingredients are served at Dining.

03

Make time for Nasushiobara fresh-milk soft serve, even on a short stop

The official Kanto Michi-no-Eki guide also introduces soft serve made with local fresh milk. Its clean finish and milky flavor offer a quick taste of Nasushiobara.

04

Walk among seasonal flowers in Hanna Garden

Spring rapeseed flowers and summer sunflowers are among the seasonal changes in the adjacent garden. Walking here adds another pleasure to the station's food and farming.
