Fuka's stopover notes

Goka helps a family reset after getting out of the car.

Fuka Takase sees Michi-no-Eki Goka as more than a refuge before or after the expressway: it is a place to choose the family's next move. If everyone is sleepy, make it a short stop for rusks or soft serve; if hungry, try a Rose Pork bun or Hanakobushi; if children still have energy, head to the sports park next door. With an advance booking, school-age children can connect a Kewpie factory tour to the food they eat. Goka is less a flashy sightseeing destination than a gentle place to reset the rhythm of a drive.

Take a Rose Pork bun and move around outside for a little while. The next leg of the drive may feel much easier.

Highlights

Michi-no-Eki Goka is just off the Ken-O Expressway's Goka IC, a gateway to western Ibaraki. Its direct-sales market receives roughly 50 seasonal product varieties from about 140 growers and suppliers. Look for Goka-grown specially cultivated Koshihikari rice, winter yatsugashira taro, Rose Pork, signature Rose Pork steamed buns, yatsugashira croquettes, rusks delivered directly from a Goka factory and the local sweet Gokabo. Fuka Takase recommends this roadside station as a place where a family can eat, shop and move around, as well as rest before or after the expressway. Add the adjacent Street sports park GOKA, Kewpie's Goka factory or Nakanoshima Park and the Sekiyado Sluice Gate to turn a short stop into a half-day outing for elementary-school children.

Why I like it

Reasons to stop here

01

Just off the interchange, with reasons to stay

Its location beside the Ken-O Expressway's Goka IC makes it convenient before or after a highway drive. Farm produce, meals, souvenirs and the adjacent sports park make both a short stop and a half-day visit possible.

02

Rose Pork and yatsugashira give Goka its flavor

Try the signature Rose Pork steamed bun, Rose Pork shumai, yatsugashira taro croquette and winter yatsugashira. These local ingredients feature in both snacks and souvenirs, giving the shop more to offer than general merchandise.

03

About 140 suppliers and 50 product varieties support the market

The range spans seasonal vegetables, rice, flowers, processed foods and meat. The farm-produce and souvenir sales areas reopened as one combined shop in March 2025. As a designated Rose Pork retailer, the station's meat delivery days are worth checking.

04

An adjacent place for children to get moving

Street sports park GOKA has skateboarding, slacklining, 3x3 basketball, a children's play area and places to rest. After eating and shopping at the station, families with energy left can head straight outside.

Route idea

Ways to plan your stop

Spend your time at the station or add somewhere nearby. These ideas help you plan around your companions and the weather.

A 30-minute break

Pick up a local specialty before or after the expressway

Pick just one of the Rose Pork bun, yatsugashira croquette, shaved-melon soft serve or rusks for a memorable taste of Goka. With the interchange so close, a focused stop works especially well.

Park → fast-food counter → restroom → depart.

For limited items, machine breakdowns or sellouts, check the official news and information at the shop.

A shopping trip

Take Goka ingredients home from the market

Explore a market supplied by about 140 growers and other producers with roughly 50 product varieties. Vegetables change through the seasons; winter brings yatsugashira, while Rose Pork meat is delivered four days a week.

Direct-sales market → Rose Pork meat → rice and processed foods.

Rose Pork deliveries are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: around 13:30 on Monday and around 9:30 on the other days.

Ages 4–6 and elementary-school children

Head next door when children need to move

After eating at the station, head to Street sports park GOKA. It has skateboarding, slacklining, 3x3 basketball and a children's play area, giving children room to move during a long drive.

Roadside station → Street sports park GOKA → dessert break.

There is no sports-equipment rental. Only skateboards are allowed in the skateboarding area.

A half-day learning outing

Reserve a Kewpie factory visit for school-age children

Kewpie Goka Factory's Open Kitchen tour requires a reservation and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. It covers mayonnaise and dressing production and includes tasting; paired with the station's food, it makes an educational outing.

Kewpie Goka Factory → Michi-no-Eki Goka.

The tour content is aimed at elementary-school children and older. Kewpie says preschool-age children may have difficulty seeing through the high viewing windows.

Waterside and history walks

See where the Tone and Edo rivers divide

Continue to Nakanoshima Park, the Sekiyado Sluice Gate and Information and Disaster Prevention Station Goka to see the rivers surrounding the town. Combine the station's produce market with the history of this waterside landscape.

Roadside station → Nakanoshima Park → Sekiyado Sluice Gate.

Watch the weather, rising water and cycle routes around the waterfront.
